cordially invites you to the

Fall Festival (covered dish luncheon) TODAY - October 23,

in the fellowship hall. Please bring food items

that do not have to be heated.

The “Feed My Sheep” project of the Outreach Committee

highlights different foods each month that are in short supply

at the Athens Emergency Food Bank. Do you have a favorite fruit or pasta dish or simply like them all? Whatever our per-sonal preferences, the Food Bank needs our help keeping their shelves well stocked with these popular favorites; Canned

fruit and canned pasta. These popular items need restocking. “Feed My Sheep” is not a gentle suggestion from Jesus to Peter but a direct command to

show Peter’s love for Jesus. (John 21:15-17) May there be enough food for all!

A VISITOR FROM OLOMOUC Ivana Markova , a member of Covenant's partner congregation in the city of Olomouc (pronounced "O - low - moots") in the Czech Republic will be visiting Covenant Novem-ber 2-11. Ivana is an Elder in her church, a grandmother, a retired university professor, and a fluent speaker of English. Olomouc is a city of 100,000, two hours east of Pra-gue, and home to Palatky University. The Olomouc-Covenant partnership effort began in 2008 when Covenant responded to a call through PCUSA from Czech churches for partners in the journey of "exploring what it means to be faithful in a highly secular society undergoing rapid change". Covenant applied, and was one of eight congregations selected to be "matched" with a Czech Republic church. Laurie Anderson, Helen Epps, and Lara Silver have visited Olomouc and found that the church and city are indeed like Covenant and Athens in many ways. Ivana is eager to learn about Covenant and Athens and to share information from her church. While here, she will participate in all that Covenant has to offer - worship, Sunday School, Covenant Connection, Bible Study, The Cave, Graduates, and any-thing else that happens to be going on during her visit. She looks forward to meeting with small groups of staff, Session, members and friends. The Harper family has gra-ciously agreed to provide bed and breakfast. Other volunteers are needed to host meals in homes or local restaurants, visits to local attractions, or to assist with transpor-tation. Please add your name to the "Help Host Ivana" list on the signup board. See Helen Epps, Ginger Davis-Beck, Laurie Anderson or Katie Bemisderfer with questions.

CongratulationsCongratulationsCongratulationsCongratulations to Susan & Jimmy Shealy upon the birth of granddaughter Vera June York on Oct.18, to his oldest daughter Erin & husband Michael York. Erin grew up at Covenant and met Michael through presbytery youth retreats and such. He is now pastor of Oakdale Pres Church in Clover, SC.

We’re so happy all are doing well.

Highlights of the stated Session meeting on Sunday, October 9 include: 1) Session Clerk, Linda Rogers, reported on the recent annual review of the Session minutes with the Presbytery. The Session voted to clarify which Sun-days we would celebrate communion and the dates of the officer training classes. 2) Donny Whitehead presented a proposal for consideration to hire the Youth Ministry Architects to consult with Covenant about the status of our youth program - a decision will be made at the November meeting. 3) Plans for the Fall Festival Stewardship luncheon were finalized.

NOVEMBER 10-12,

TRINITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH,

3003 HOWELL MILL ROAD, NW, ATLANTA.

This conference, sponsored by Friends of Sabeel* North America, seeks to link the US

Civil Rights movement with the Palestinian nonviolent resistance against Occupation in

the Palestinian Occupied Territories of the West Bank. Workshops on basic issues are

available for "beginners" as well as for those who want to explore other topics in greater

depth. Plenary sessions with national activists in the Civil Rights Movement, Palestine,

and American Jewish community will also be presented. Brochures are available in the

Gathering Area and at www.fosna.org. For more information, see Jim or Laurie Ander-

son. The Witness Ministry Team will partially subsidize the registration costs, upon

on behalf of Palestinian Christians for justice through nonviolence in the

Holy Land. The Rev. Naim Ateek is known as the "Bishop Tutu of Palestine", author of

A Palestinian Christian Cry for Reconciliation, and will address the
