1. Josiah 2 Lewis, Sr. (William 1 ) was born Abt. 1728, and died Abt. 1820. He married Ann Mullington. She was born Abt. 1734, and died Abt. 1775.

Notes for Josiah Lewis, Sr.: Josiah Lewis represented Bladen County at the North Carolina General Assembly at New Bern, 1792­93, at Fayetteville in 1793­94, and at Raleigh in 1794­96, and at the Senate in Raleigh in 1796­1800. He and his family attended White Lake Baptist Church a offshoot of the Old Welsh Baptist which was located across the river from Elizabethtown, NC. The church, Colly Chapel, was built later, close to the family homestead and most of the Lewis' attended and are buried there.

P., son of Daniel Shipman and Elenore. He was born June 13, 1751 in Brown Marsh, Bladen County, NC, and died January 04, 1844 in Brown Marsh, Bladen County, NC.

Notes for Lucy Lewis: Affidavid of Lucy Shipman stated that she was married to Captain James Shipman, on the twenty fourth day of February On Thousand Seven hundred and Eighty, by Robert Daniel, then an acting Justice of the Peace for Bladen County, who was duly authorized to solemnize the rites of Matrimony.

Notes for James L. Shipman: Served in the Revolutionary War from Bladen Co., NC Enlisted in the winter of 1775­76 as Sargent; stationed at Wilmington and Jumping River, NC. Served under several Captains and Colonels. His promotion to Captain is reported; "Resolved, that the following person be appointed Captain... For Bladen County, James Shipman"

39. Mariah Isabel 5 Shipman (Daniel 4 , Lucy 3 Lewis, Josiah 2 , William 1 ) was born October 18, 1812, and died November 03, 1891. She married Haynes Lennon, son of Moore Lennon and Hannah Haynes. He was born December 15, 1816, and died January 31, 1896.

Notes for Haynes Lennon: Haynes Lennon was a Baptist Minister and was the third pastor of Hickory Grove Baptist Church from 1853 to 1855. He was a missionary pastor, appointed by the North Carolina Baptist State Convention, and at one time had charge of several congregations.

Notes for Richard Lewis Britt: Richard joined the Confederate Army when he was only16 years old. He served as a scout for Robert E. Lee. After he was paroled at Appomattox Courthouse, he walked home to Jackson Gap and took a friend who had a head wound with him. when they got home, he and his family nursed the man until he was well. When he was on his way home he met a Union soldier who had been a scout also, they became friends and exchanged knives. The knife that Richard got was like a Bowie Knife with pearl handles.
