Sentences: Subjects & Predicates

Every complete sentence has two parts:

1.) subject (answers who? or what?) and

2.) predicate (what the subject is or does) .

Example: A man in a blue suit drove by the house.

Example: A man in a blue suit drove by the house.

Simple Subjects & Simple Predicates

The simple subject is the main word or group of words in the subject part of the sentence.

Example: A man in a blue suit drove by the house.

The simple predicate is the main word or group of words in the predicate part of the sentence (it begins with a verb).

Example: A man in a blue suit drove by the house.
