Physical Education AS and A Level Examination Board: OCR Physical Education will give you a fantastic insight into the amazing world of sports performance. Not only will you have the chance to perform or coach a sport through the non-exam assessment component, you will also develop a wide-ranging knowledge into the how and why of physical activity and sport. The combination of physical performance and academic challenge provides an exciting opportunity for students. You can perform, and then, through academic study, gain the knowledge to improve yours and others’ performance or coaching though application of the theory. The AS and A Level in Physical Education is studied though a range of different contexts and the impact it has on both yours and others’ everyday lives becomes clear. You will learn the reasons why we do things, why some people out- perform others – mentally and physically. You will also delve into the ethical considerations behind the use of drugs and the influence that modern technology is having on physical activity and sport. Assessment: Careers and Study Progression: This course will prepare learners for the further study of Physical Education or Sports Science courses as well as other related subject areas such as Psychology, Sociology and Biology. Learners will also develop the transferable skills that are in demand by Further Education, Higher Education and employers in all sectors of industry. Students of physical education can go on to pursue careers in sports science, teaching, physiotherapy, professional sports, coaching and consulting, sports policy development at local and national level , fitness instruction and personal training, to name a few. Other aligned courses and career pathways include: psychology, health and social care, nutrition and occupational therapy.
