Latest RSC Education News Our new learning platform – LEARN CHEMISTRY – which was launched at the National ASE Conference in January is continuing to grow. New resources for the teaching and learning of Chemistry are continually being added. The latest are some more Gridlock Interactive Games for students and a new Faces of Chemistry video. These videos are presented by chemists from different workplaces who talk about how they use chemistry in their work day to day. We have just launched our ‘Chemistry and Sport’ micro site to link in with the 2012 Olympic Games. This includes a Global Experiment which is running from April until the start of the Olympics on 27th July. The aim is to test the effect sports drinks have on physical activity and anyone can join in. It is particularly suitable for classes of school students. All results will be uploaded to the Global Experiment data page and then presented in a chart according to age groups and pinned on the Interactive Global Map to share with all participants worldwide. We welcome your comments on any aspect of Learn Chemistry and are continually improving it in response to your feedback. We are currently offering FREE Chemistry Teacher CPD as part of a pilot. If your school can host a twilight session and can find 5- 10 interested Chemistry teachers then please contact me, Sue Thompson at [email protected]. The sessions being offered are Redox Chemistry or Quantitative Chemistry. We also have a 4 day Chemistry for Non- Specialist Course coming up at Kingsbury School in North London on 21 and 22nd June 2012. Days 3 and 4 are still to be confirmed. This course can be booked via the Science Learning Centre London and is eligible for an impact Award. We are holding 2 NQT Days on ‘Developing Effective practical work’. The first international "Fascination of Plants Day" will be launched under the umbrella of the European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO). The goal of this activity is to get as many people as possible around the world fascinated by plants and enthused about the importance of plant science for agriculture, in sustainably producing food, as well as for horticulture, forestry, and all of the non-food products such as paper, timber, chemicals, energy, and pharmaceuticals. The role of plants in environmental conservation will also be a key message.
The East Anglia branch will be sharing a stall with KWS seeds to provide an interesting insight in plants and how we rely on them and their products in every day life.
