Dear Parents & Guardians,
It is hard to believe that 2012 is coming to an end. It has been a great year and the staff and I are looking forward to 2013.
All eighth grade students have received their high school registration information. Roo-sevelt’s seventh graders will be receiving their registration cards for eighth grade in early January. Kaleidoscope Academy sixth and seventh graders will be getting their seventh and eighth grade registration cards in mid-December. Also, any Kaleidoscope families can register siblings early for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade by completing the paper-work, on line in December. All students should be getting registration materials over the next two months for the 2013-14 school year.
We have three concerts/performances before the holidays and one in January. We are looking forward to hearing and seeing some wonderful performances. This is another example of how our students excel. The dates are as follows:
Band Concert 7:30 p.m. December 11, 2012
Orchestra Concert 7:30 p.m. December 13, 2012
Performance Show Case 7:30 p.m. December 18, 2012
Choir Concert 7:30 p.m. January 17, 2013
The Parent Booster Club meeting scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on December 10, has been cancelled. The next Parent Booster Club meeting is set for 4:00 p.m. on January 14, 2013. Please mark your calendars.
I want to personally thank all the parents who took the time to complete our fall Parent Survey for Roosevelt or Kaleidoscope. If by chance you missed it, please feel free to request the survey link, by email, so you too can provide us with important feedback.
I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. The office will be closed at 3:30 p.m. on December 21, 2012, and reopen at 7:00 a.m. on January 2, 2013. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
Sincerely,
Al Allen J. Brant

VOLUME 12, ISSUE 5
A big THANK YOU goes out to all of the staff, students
and their families for participating in Roosevelt Middle
School and Kaleidascope Academy’s first ever Tom’s
Drive‐In Night! Along with Tom’s Drive‐In, you helped
the school raise $150. Way to go Rebels!
Helping your student learn to save – one coin, one dollar at a time. Learning to save is easy at your student’s Roosevelt/Kaleidoscope Community First Credit Union school branch. Open Tuesdays during lunch hour, your student can make a deposit of any size. No deposit is too small, and every one helps them to create a savings habit. Encourage your student to save on Tuesdays at their school branch! Need to set up an account, applications are available on the school website or in the school office.

Boys and Girls Club of the Fox Valley
At 6’6”, Jerry Overstreet towers over the students at Roosevelt when he comes to visit. But when he greets the students “Street”, the name students refer to him as, greets them at their level with a smile and genuine interest about how they are doing. He is returned with many smiles and handshakes as the students pass by him.
Street is part of the Youth Development Team at the Boys and Girls Club of the Fox Valley. He
coordinates activities for students at the Club that reinforces the importance of doing well in school by having ‘Power Hour’ where members can get help with homework. He also has them participate in the community and offers special events for teens such as fishing club, sports, multicultural dances and opportunities to record songs in a recording booth. “What do you wanna do?” is the motto of the CLUB Teen Center. Street adds the motto “Come one, come all”; come as an individual, but work to-gether and help each other out. Membership to the Club is free for Roosevelt and KA students.
At Roosevelt, Jerry Overstreet holds a meeting every Tuesday called Teen Outreach Initiative (TOI). He works in collaboration with AASD and BGC to provide mentoring for primarily English Lan-guage Learners. During this time he talks to students about their fears and concerns they are having at the time. He reminds them with positive words of encouragement, “Surround yourself with the kind of people you would like to be like,” and “Let your haters be your motivators.” Students look forward to spending time with Street because he understands them and makes them feel good about them-selves.
