Dance n Rhythm includes a collection of paintings
and textiles and a video installation. Visitors a re invited
to participate in creating a mixed-media collage that
reects the world of rhythm and dance in N orthernGhana based on the artists compositional sketch. With
tracing sheets, visitors trace the forms and s teps that
make up the drawing and use cardboard, brown paper, and strips of Ghanaian cloth to c reate a relief of the collages
main dancing gures. Paint, newspaper, and other recycled materials will be used for the background and foreground.
Every month the museum invites artists to install and demonstrate their art form at the de Young. This interactive program enables visitors to meetartists and gives the artists an opportunity to work with the public. Artists working in various media are encouraged to apply.
The Artist Studio program is supported by the Fleishhacker Foundation. Thank you to Aveleda Winery for its in-kind support.
For information about Artist Studio, visit our online calendar at www.deyoungmuseum.org, call 415-750-3528, or e-mail [email protected].

harmonized melody lines and easy-to-follow dance forms
like the bolero, waltz, 6x8, cumbia, and the traditional
Guatemalan son. The marimba sound is warm; its
unmistakable tone of warbling modulations blow through
