- Forty 1-1/4” x 6-1/2” strips; and- Seven 1-1/4” x 5” strips (for a total of forty).*Cut eight 2” x WOF strips for border 7.

From 2358-99 Novelty Blocks-Black:*Fussy-cut twenty-two 6-1/2” squares using the 6-1/2” template.

From 2360-33 Words-Cream:*Cut twenty 2-1/2” x WOF strips. Sub-cut 306 2-1/2” squares.

Assemble BlocksNote: Measurements include 1/4” seam allowances. Sew with right sides together unless otherwise stated. If no direction is specified, press seams toward darker fabric.

1. Set aside 102 2-1/2” 2360-33 Words-Cream squares.

2. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of seven 2-1/2” 2360-33 Words-Cream squares. With right sides together, layer a marked Words-Cream square on the left short end of a 2-1/2” x 4-1/2” 7755-62 Folio Basic-Early Green rectangle and stitch on the drawn line. Trim 1/4” away from the seam line and press open. In the same manner, stitch another Words-Cream square to the opposite end of the same rect-angle (figure 1). Repeat with the next six Early Green rectangles to make a total of seven flying geese.

3. Repeat step 2 with the remaining 2-1/2” 2360-33 Words-Cream squares and the 2-1/2” x 4-1/2” rect-angles of 7755-76 Folio Basic-Aqua, 7755-25 Folio Basic-Lt. Pink, 7755-34 Folio Basic-Yellow, 7755-61 Folio Basic-Jade, 7755-36 Folio Basic-Orange, 7755-81 Folio Basic-Red Hot, 7755-52 Folio Basic-Peony Pink, 7755-06 Folio Basic-Celery, 7755-58 Folio Ba-sic-Grape, and 7755-08 Folio Basic-Fuchsia to make the number of flying-geese units listed on table 1.

4. Sew a step 1 2-1/2” 2360-33 Words-Cream square to the left side of the step 2 Early Green units. Repeat with the Red Hot, Yellow, Peony Pink, Grape, and seven Fuchsia flying geese (figure 2). Press the seams toward squares.

5. Sew the remaining step 1 2-1/2” 2360-33 Words-Cream squares to the right side of the Aqua, Jade, Orange, Lt. Pink, Celery, and nine Fuchsia flying geese (figure 3). Press the seams toward squares.

6. Sew together the step 4 and step 5 units as shown below to make a total of thirty-four blocks (figure 4, next page). Press the seams in one direction.

7. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the 2-3/4” 7755-04 Folio Basic-Off White squares. With right sides together, place one marked Off White square on a corner of one 5” 2359-99 Animal Toss-Black square and stitch on the drawn line. Repeat with the opposite corner of the same square. Trim seam al-lowances to ¼” and press open. Repeat with the other corners of the same square (figure 5). Repeat to m0ake twelve 5” patches.

8. Repeat step 7 with the remaining the 2-3/4” 7755-04 Folio Basic-Off White squares and the 5” 2360-99 Words-Black squares (figure 6) to make eight 5” patches.

9. Sew a 1-1/4” x 5” 2362-99 Tossed Flowers-Black strip to opposite sides of the step 7 and step 8 patches (figure 7). Press the seams away from center.

10. Sew a 1-1/4” x 6-1/2” 2362-99 Tossed Flowers-Black strip to the top and one to the bottom of all the step 9 units (figure 8). Press the seams away from center. Make a total of twenty 6-1/2” blocks.

Assemble Quilt Top

11. For border 1, sew one 2” 2363-99 Dots-Black strip to the top and one to the bottom of the 2357P-17 Banner Tree Panel-Lt. Blue. Press the seams away from center. Sew three 2-1/2” 2363-99 Dots-Black strips together end to end using diagonal seams. Mea-sure the vertical length of the quilt top through the center and cut two border strips that length. Sew strips to the sides of the quilt top and press the seams away from center.

12. For border 2, sew four 3” 2361-33 Stripe-Cream Multi border strips together end to end using diag-onal seams. Measure the vertical length of the quilt top through the center and cut two border strips that length. Sew strips to the sides of the quilt top. Mea-sure the width of the quilt top through its center. Cut two border strips that length and sew one to the top and one to the bottom. Press seams toward borders.

13. Repeat step 11 with the remainder of the 2363-99 Dots-Black strips to make and add border 3. (Quilt measures 36-1/2” x 54-1/2” up to here).

14. For border 4 and referring to the quilt photo and diagram for block placement and orientation, arrange nine blocks for each side of the quilt. Sew blocks together and sew one border strip to each side of the quilt center. Press the seam toward quilt center.

15. Repeat step 14 with the remainder blocks and sew one border strip to the top and one to the bottom of the quilt center.

16. For border 5 and referring to the quilt photo and diagram for block placement and orientation, arrange eleven blocks/novelty blocks for each side of the quilt. Sew blocks together and sew one border strip to each side of the quilt center. Press the seam toward quilt center.

17. Repeat step 16 with the remainder blocks and sew one border strip to the top and one to the bottom of the quilt center.

18. Repeat step 12 with the seven 1-1/2” 7755-04 Fo-lio Basic-Off White strips to make and add border 6.

19. Repeat step 12 with the eight 2” 2362-99 Tossed Flowers-Black strips to make and add border 7.

Finishing

20. Create a quilt sandwich with the batting between the quilt top and the backing. Pin or baste layers together, mark quilting design, and quilt by hand or machine. When quilting is complete, remove pins or basting, and trim batting and backing even with raw edges of the quilt top.

21. Join the eight 2-1/2” 7755-99 Folio Basic-Black binding strips together end to end using a diagonal seam to make one long strip. Fold in half lengthwise and press. Sew binding to the edges of the quilt top, mitering corners, and overlapping ends. Fold binding to the back of the quilt and stitch it in place by hand to finish.
