How to Look after Your New HamsterHamsters live for about three years. They make excellent pets as they are friendly, happy rodents and love children.
Hamsters should have a clean, nice, good-sized cage with some toys to play with.
You should feed your hamster once every day. Give them hamster mix and some fruit and vegetables and throw away any old food. They should have fresh water every day in a water bottle.
You will need to clean your hamster’s cage out once a week. Use pet-safe disinfectant and put fresh wood shavings and rodent bedding in the cage.
All of these items are available to buy at Peekaboo Pets.
You will need to check your hamster every day to make sure it is healthy. Use the picture below to help you.

Mornington Council Guidance for Pet Shop Owners1. All animals must be housed in suitable accommodation made of suitable
construction materials and must not be kept in a way where they can be interfered with by other animals or the public or be able to escape.
2. The size and material used must be suitable for the species being housed and be kept in good repair.
3. All accommodation should allow animals to move naturally, e.g. climb, fly, swim or jump.
4. Signs should be in place to deter public interference and accommodation locked if necessary.
5. The type of bedding used will depend on the animal kept, but it should be provided in sufficient quantities to enable the animal to feel secure and warm.
6. Ventilation helps with disease control and prevents humidity. The spread of airborne infection can be of significant risk; excessive or inadequate humidity may also cause other health problems.
7. Accommodation must be cleaned as often as necessary to maintain good hygiene standards.
8. Where accommodation is on a tiered system, water, food or other waste must not be allowed to enter the lower housing from above.
