~ Lanz knows Frank Sturgis from Cuba. Lanz states Sturgis works

for the CIA and was sent to Cuba by the CIA. Frank Sturgis l e f t

Cuba about the same time Lanz l e f t but not together.Lanz

l e f tby boat and when he arrived in the US an Immigration Officer,

offered him f inancial help. Lanz questioned the offer of help andwas told that he would be given instructions work for the CIA),

Lanz did not accept th is so he did not get any helpo Lanz and

o tner .3 s t a r t ~ a il  iL groups of men and trained in the Everglades. Frank

Sturgis and Lanz flew together over Cuba dropping leaflets. Then the CIA

brought in Artime (communist) to run the show. Frank Sturgis stayed for a whileand then lef t for Guatemala.

Lanz went to Wash.DC and spoke to Sen. Smathers and Allen Dulles, toldthem the Bay of Pigs operation with Communist heading i t would be a fiasco.

Lanz sent le t ters to FBI Hoover, Smathers and JFK. When Lanz returned to

Miami an attempt was made on his l i fe someone fired four shots at him andmissed. Lanz s tates that Manolo Ray, Emilio Cardona are communist.

Alpha 66 now being led by communist(top leaders) Veciana and others.Re: Orlando Bosch-communist te r ror is t met him once on W 8 St. in a

restaurant, spoke to him but never worked together.Lanz s tates he has never met Marita Lorenz in Miami or ever entered

any auto with her to go any place.Lanz has never worked with Gerry Patrick Hemming, doesn't know him.

Victor Penaque (Diego) absconded with a lo t money that exi les contribw

uted to fighting Castro. Lanz had nothing to do with him. As for John

Martino, Lanz heard of him but did not know him personally.Re: Felipe Vidal Santiago. Felipe and Lanz made many t r ips to Cuba to

bring out relat ives in seperate boats. When Felipe was caught there was a

G man with him on board. Lanz had warned Felipe about the G man. Lanzhad observed Ge man taking pictures of the boats and Felipe and Lanz

together. Felipe was captured by the same G man and the mil i t ia as he

s lept on board his boat. Feilpe was executed.About Alex Rorke Sherman Billingsley son-in-law), Lanz describes him

energetic, impetuous but did not act intell igently . Was not afraid of any

thing, did not l ike advice. Worked out of the Bahamas (Keys), used Sigmaboats out of Cuba. Menoyo used same boat but was never caught, top speed

was about 8 knots per hour. Frank Sturgis was with Rorke much more than

Lanz. Hears9y, Cuban entered plane with Rorke and plane disappeared.Frank Sturgis knew pi lot .

Lanz does not know the Buchanan bothers, only Buchanan he knows is anewspaper man with the Herald.

Lanz states he never met LHO but knows a young man in New Orleans, one

Carlos Briniguer who had fight with LHO in st ree t and both were arrested and

charged with public disturbance. I t seems LHO offered to help exile Cubancause in New Orleans but was not accepted. Then LHO took opposite stand

Lanz states he was with Barker many times. He told Barker tha t Artime

was a communist, and that the CIA had taken him out of Cuba to Mexico and

s tarted propagander against Castro. Artime's fa ther was a member of Spains

Communist Party, and fought against Franco, he also brought up his offspr ingas a communist.

As for Carlos Prio, Lanz knows him from Cuba. Prio refused Lanz aidto s ta r t A n t i ~ C s t r o group because he was supporting Menoyo. Prio also had

Lanz describes Bender (CIA) as an older man over 45 yrs. of age (1960's)

curly hair , under 5'9 not American born, had European accent, not GermanFrench or Spanish but possibly H u ~ r i a n He met Bender at safe house inCoconut Grove and Bender offered ~ i m position as Chief of Air StrikeForce in Guatemala (Bay of Pigs Operation) Lanz did not accept t because

he wouldn't have been in on the planning . t was al.l very secret and runby the CIA. Lanz was then offered another p o s i t i o n ~ u b a but refused and

had heated words with Bender because he stated i t was just an effort todestroy the Cuban forces in exile. Bender agreed off the record. Lanz

was very hot and someone came over and attempted to calm him down. Lanz

believes i t was Hunt.

Shortly thereafter Artime arrived and he and Bender hugged and kissed

each other on the mouth. This drew Lanz at tent ion because he knew i twasn't an American or French or Spanish custom for men to kiss each other.

Mr Lanz stated he would be glad to cooperate with the Committee and i f

aKi this investigator needs any other information to feel free to cal l him.

On Sept. 21, 1977 th is writer returned to residence of Pedro Diaz Lanzand showed him some pictures for ID purposes. Lanz could not ID Hunt,

so I asked Lanz to explain how Hunt wrote about him in his book Give

Us This Day , Lanz could not explain. Lanz was upset about the s toryin the newspapers the day before (Marita Lorenz) and Frank Sturgisstatement. Lanz explained tha t Frank Sturgis did not know what he wastalking about when he made the statement to the press in response toMarita Lorenz al legat ions that Operation 40 possibly had an Assassination

Squad. Lanz explained that Operation 40 was a CIA operation and s t r i c t ly

sabotage-in Cuba to destroy ins ta l la t ions , such as elec t r ic and powerplants with explosives. One such opera t ion was scrapped when order todestroy was c8ntermanded and al l the explosives had to be removed froman elec t r ic pfant. This order was direct from Wash. D.C.
