Imagine a one-stop vacation shop. A place that could offer departures to all destinations for day trips, all the toys for water sports and combine a professional and well-established

dive center to round off the package. Aqua Mania Adventures is located at Pelican Marina and has over 20 years experience in the customer service industry with friendly and reliable staff. These are the people to plan your unforgettable vacation.

St. Maarten is surrounded by four beautiful islands - the French jewel ofSt Barts, the unspoiled Dutch Queen, Saba, and the two British sisters Anguilla and Prickly Pear Cay await discovery. Each day you have an exciting opportunity to explore and enjoy a new country and culture.

Aqua Mania Adventures offers Edge I & II high speed ferries to St Barts and the only constant service to Saba. State of the art sail cats, Lambada and Tango, are the best way to travel to pristine white beaches and the aquamarine waters surrounding Anguilla and Prickly Pear. Great snorkeling at these destinations and local restaurants provide a tasty BBQ lunch.

If you prefer a half-day sightseeing and snorkeling combo, Sand Dollar is a popular outing with departures twice daily. Captain Alex is a dedicated and amusing companion for the three-hour trip, and snorkeling at Creole Rock caters to the experienced and novice alike. This is a trip to christen that new gear or knock the cobwebs out of the trusted antiques.

If you envision days of lazing under palm trees sipping pina coladas, and roasting a deep golden brown, then surely by evening you will be ready to tap your feet to the Caribbean steel drum beat. Lambada and Tango provide the best seat in the house to watch breathtaking tropical sunsets. Take a two-hour cruise on Lambada with drinks and snacks, before dinner at one

Kids stuff: the week stretches out ahead and you are wondering what to do with Johnny and Suzi, besides preventing

them from frying on the beach. Try our new Kids Play station anchored right off Pelican Beach. Swing, Slide and Splash off a water playground or join the Kid’s Lagoon Cruise. We have a full summer program with trips to the zoo, butterfly farm and a semi submarine.

of the 350 fantastic restaurants, or a sumptuous Creole buffet aboard Tango for a longer evening of picnic dining, and dancing underneath the stars.

Thought that was it? If you snorkel and swim, why haven’t you tried Scuba? It is the most natural progression, and the common thought is, if you can breathe you can scuba. Try a one-day discovery course or get your certification card.

Dive wrecks and reefs and hone your skills on advanced and specialty courses. With Dive Shop Manager Vinny at the helm, Dive Adventures takes you by the hand and shows you a side of St Maarten you will never forget. This is an adventure with Dive Adventures. Day trips for diving in Saba on walls and pinnacles are opportunities for world-class diving.

Now what vacation would be complete without thrill seeking? Wave runner tours, parasailing, kite surfing, waterskiing, and eco tours like kayaking and mountain biking are all available for first timers and experienced participants.

Plan a private charter for your birthday, wedding or family group with a variety of vessels to exotic destinations.

It’s your vacation....plan it with Aqua Mania Adventures, and just add water!!!

Fractional Ownership

LLocated on the shores of Simpson Bay, next to The Pelican Resort, Pelican Marina Residences is now open with all 83 luxury villas.

Amenities at the resort include a fresh-water pool with a bar, a gym, a waterfront boardwalk, tropical landscaping and a roof terrace for events. A restaurant and a spa are also planned for a future stage of the project. The 24-hour reception and Concierge desk takes care of guests’ needs and there is a lobby bar for pre-dinner cocktails. Owners and guests also enjoy access to all the facilities on site at the adjacent Pelican Resort Club such as tennis courts, the activity program, water sports center, restaurants, bars, spa, convenience store and a casino.

The upscale two-bedroom, two-bathroom villas sleep six and have a fully equipped US-style kitchen, a spacious living and dining area, luxury appointments and central air-conditioning. Offering spectacular views of the bay, the villa terrace is the perfect spot for sunbathing, sunset cocktails and al fresco dining.

The innovative villa floor plan offers owners flexible usage options. They can enjoy the whole villa with their family or invite friends and use the lock-off facility for a one-bedroom suite sleeping four and a junior suite for two with a separate entrance.

The Pelican Marina Residences fractional ownership program gives owners at least four weeks vacation time on St. Maarten. Each villa was initially divided into 12 fractions or 28-day blocks, and the concept has since proved so popular that two and three-month options are now available. A few units are also offered for full-time ownership to cater to visitors who may be thinking about moving to St. Maarten permanently.

The fractional concept offers Pelican Marina Residences owners enhanced vacation possibilities. For starters, they don’t have to make a reservation and they stay in the same villa year

in, year out. They can enjoy an extended vacation on the island they love so much, invite guests to spend a week with them, rent it or exchange it and travel the world.”

We would like to extend a warm welcome to Pelican Marina Residences owners and we hope that they enjoy their stay, the first of many wonderful vacations to come.

If you would like to find out more about Pelican Marina Residences and arrange a tour, please dial Ext. 5800 or visit the Sales Center in Marina Plaza.

5. If I purchase more than one fraction, may I sell some but not all of my fractions at a future date? Alternatively, may I purchase more fractions later?

Yes. The beauty of fractional ownership is the flexibility it provides you in both of these and so many other ways. The ability to purchase more blocks will of course be based on availability.

6. Do I purchase an interest in one specific unit, or will my vacation home vary from visit to visit?

You purchase a fractional interest in one specific unit and will be accommodated in this unit during your visits to St Maarten.

7. How often can I use my resort home within the fraction I purchase? You may use your resort home as often as you wish, without

restriction, during the periods you have purchased.

8. What are the benefits of fractional ownership? With fractional ownership, you own an exclusive vacation

property. You are buying your vacation home in partnership with others who share the cost with you. At the same time, you have an interest in the property. You can sell your property at any time, at any price, bequeath your interest to your heirs, rent it, allow friends to use it and invite guests to share it.

It is luxury maintenance-free living at a fraction of the cost of owning or renting a “traditional” vacation home.

It matches your investment to the amount you actually want to use your vacation property.

9. Why should I buy a fractional interest? Despite their best intentions, many people recognize that they are just not able to use their vacation homes as much as they would like. For many, one to two fractions or four to eight weeks matches the available leisure time available. With a fractional interest you are able to match your investment with the quality and level of luxury you want for the time you actually plan to use your vacation home.

A concept that gives you more timeon St. Maarten

1. What is fractional ownership? It is an exciting and fast growing concept in resort home

ownership. Think of it as you and 3 friends buying a vacation home together. Each of you has the ways and means to own a vacation home, but you don’t have the time to use it as much as you’d like.

As such, it is analogous to 4 people purchasing a private jet. Each owner wants the benefit and convenience of having access to the jet but know that they cannot use it 12 months a year. Hence they purchase a fractional interest in the jet, match their investment and ownership interest to their expected use, and keep their costs down by paying for only that portion of the jet they actually use. This concept of purchasing only what you need, or will use, is perfect for vacation homes.

All of this, without any of the hassles normally associated with owning and maintaining a vacation home. The home is professionally managed and maintained for you by the Resort Operator, in this case Royal Resorts.

2. Is fractional ownership like Time-share?Technically yes, but unlike Time Share where owners may have

the option of purchasing one week or even one week every other year, Fractional owners are looking for extended stays and while there usually is an exchange option available, it is of much less relevance to the fractional owner.

3. How many fractions will each Pelican Marina Residence be divided into?

Each unit is initially divided into 12 fractions, but the eventual number will be less as many members have decided to purchase more than one fraction.

4. May I purchase more than one fractional interest in my esidence?Yes. The minimum purchase is 4 weeks or one block, but you

do have the option to choose anywhere between 4 and 12 weeks.

Butterfly Farm

A variety of the world’s most colorful tropical butterflies are on display in the gardens at the Butterfly Farm. Find out about the importance of butterflies as indicators of a healthy environment; they are sensitive to pesticides, insecticides and other sources of pollution. Open daily from 9 a.m.; last tour at 3 p.m. Located on the Le Galion Beach Road. (590) 590 873-121

Pic Paradis

Climb to the top of 1,400-foot Pic Paradis for spectacular views of St Maarten, the Caribbean and neighboring islands.

Located on the slopes of Pic Paradis, the former plantation and nature reserve of Loterie Farm is worth a visit. Follow eco trails through the jungle up into the hills and learn about the history of the estate. You can also zip line through the forest canopy.

Island Hopping

You have seen them on the horizon: the long, low-lying island of Anguilla, the witch’s hat peak of Saba, St. Bart’s and Saba, why not include island hopping in your St. Maarten vacation? Each one has its own charms, whether it’s beaches, jet-set ambiance, coral reefs or rugged scenery. Day cruises and ferries are available to these islands and flights to those that are further afield such as St. Kitts and Nevis.

Start your island hopping closer to shore with a cruise to the tiny cays of Tintemarre and Ilet Pinel, both have fine beaches and are popular snorkeling spots.

Cross the border to Saint Martin

Marigot

This picturesque waterfront town is a blend of Caribbean color and Continental chic. French sidewalk cafes, bistros, boutiques, art galleries, gift shops and even gourmet delicatessens line the streets. The Port La Royale Marina, Rue de France (Port Road), Rue de la République, Rue du Géneral de Gaulle and Le West Indies mall are the main shopping and dining districts.

The bustling Marigot Market is worth a visit to purchase locally grown fruit, vegetables and spices, carved wooden figures and other crafts and to sample freshly caught fish and seafood. Every Wednesday and Saturday on the waterfront.

Built by the French in 1767 to protect Marigot, Fort St. Louis dominates Marigot Bay. The ten-minute walk from the harbor to the fort is well worth it for the panoramic views of the island. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes.

Grande Case

Nestled on the shores of a picturesque bay, this tiny fishing village on the north coast is a must for visitors who like to indulge in the art of fine dining. Its waterfront street is lined with restaurants, many in traditional wooden houses painted in pastel colors and with gingerbread style carved shutters and columns, and all highly acclaimed for their cuisine. Menus feature everything from seafood and Creole dishes to French, Italian, Indian, Indonesian and fusion recipes.

Orient Bay

Baie Orientale is the island’s most famous and popular beach and is good for windsurfing, water skiing, parasailing and horseback riding. Clothing optional. The entire bay is an underwater marine reserve.

Other French side Beaches

Baie Longue is the longest beach on the island and is secluded and very quiet. Clothing optional. Visit Baie Longue and nearby Baie aux Prunes (Plum Bay) for sunset watching. Baie Rouge is a beautiful wide bay on the French side. Its white sand has a pinkish tinge due to minute fragments of coral and the shells of marine organisms called foraminifera.

Le Galion Bay is a popular spot with families for swimming and snorkeling. Wind surfers, surfers and kite boarders also gather here. Also known as Baie de L’Embouchure or Coconut Grove, the bay is part of the St Martin Marine Reserve.

Exploring Saint Maarten

Philipsburg

Founded on the shores of Great Bay in 1763 by John Philips, a Scotsman serving in the Dutch Navy, Philipsburg soon became an important port, a role that it maintains to this day. A major cruise ship and duty-free shopping haven, this waterfront town boasts a variety of stores stocking luxury goods, jewelry, clothing and electronics. There are also restaurants, cafes, casinos, bars and night clubs.

Apart from the beach boulevard, affectionately known as the Boardwalk, the most important streets are Front and Back Street, which are linked by a series of alleys called steegjes. Look out for the colorful wooden houses with carved fretwork railings, eaves and shutters. These typically Caribbean homes are found throughout the island and the style is called “gingerbread”.

Front Street is the site of the Courthouse which dates from 1793 and was once John Philips’ home. Over the years it has served as the council hall, weigh station, post office, jail and fire station before being renovated and given to the courts.

Also on Front Street, the Sint Maarten Museum has interesting displays of Arawak pottery and artifacts from the Colonial period, including plantation records and cargo salvaged from HMS Proselyte, a British Navy ship that foundered off the coast in 1801. Open: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Monday to Friday),10 a.m. – 2 p.m. (Saturday), closed on Sundays. Tel. 542-4917

In colonial times, the approaches to the port of Philipsburg were guarded by two hilltop forts, Fort Amsterdam, built in 1631, and Fort Willem, erected by the British in 1801. They still survive today and Fort Willem is easily recognizable as the site of a television transmission tower.

Sint Maarten Park

Over 60 species of mammals, birds, reptiles and fish from the Caribbean and tropical South America are on display at this small forest park. They include squirrel and golden lion tamarin monkeys, bats, ocelots, parrots, macaws and toucans. Located at Great Salt Pond. Open daily:9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (October to March) and until6 p.m. (May to September) Tel. 543-2030

Beaches

Apart from Simpson Bay, other beaches on the Dutch side worth a visit include Dawn Beach, which is a good spot for snorkeling, Mullet Bay and Cupecoy (care needed when swimming, clothing is optional). Located next to the Princess Juliana Airport, Maho Beach is popular but noisy when planes take off and land.

Island Cuisine

There are over 50 restaurants within walking distance of Pelican Resort. In fact, if you ate out every night for a year, you would not be able to try all of the restaurants on the island. There are over 365 restaurants on St. Maarten/St. Martin from roadside stops popular with locals and visitors alike to haute cuisine restaurants for a truly special occasion. The choices are endless!

St. Maarten menus feature everything from ocean-fresh seafood, steaks and local Caribbean recipes to classic French cuisine, Italian, Indian and Indonesian specialties and sophisticated fusion dishes. Some of Europe’s finest young chefs even spend a season on the island perfecting their skills and creating culinary masterpieces with ingredients and spices from all over the world.

Many of the island’s most famous restaurants are in Philipsburg, Marigot and the tiny seaside village of Grand Case, which is often hailed as the “gastronomic capital of the Caribbean.”

The settings range from candlelit dining rooms and open-air terraces where you can watch the sunset and dine under the stars to tropical thatched eateries where you can feel the sand between your toes. Some restaurants have Caribbean or Arabian décor while others are nautical in inspiration, sometimes to the extent of even being on board a boat.

If casual dining is more your style, rustic beachfront eateries and market stands called lolos serve grilled fish and lobster, chicken and ribs marinated in the famous Jamaican jerk spice mix, and there are fast food outlets for visitors who crave burgers and pizzas.

Don’t miss the opportunity to sample Caribbean favorites such as rice and beans, Johnny cakes and salt cod akkras (fried fish fritters), conch chowder and salad, accompanied by fried plantains and a locally made spicy sauce with all the heat that the Scotch bonnet chile can pack. For dessert, try coconut tart, sweet potato pudding or rum cake.

See the concierge or call in at the Sales Center for restaurant recommendations. Bon Appetit!

Sunset Cruises

Savor the romance of the Caribbean at sunset on board a catamaran. For a truly magical evening, book a dinner cruise and enjoy your meal under the stars. You can even charter a luxury yacht and celebrate your anniversary on the high seas with champagne and a gourmet menu. Check out the sunset and dinner cruise options available at the Water Sports Center

Compensation for inconvenienceis not possible at The Pelican Resort

Whether you think of your Pelican Resort or Pelican Marina Residences unit as a Resort home, timeshare or condo, it is your exclusive property for the interval purchased. When you stay at the Resort, you are not a guest in a hotel. The Resort is not a hotel, nor is it managed as such. Accepting this fundamental difference is essential to understanding why compensation is not permitted for any minor inconvenience you might encounter during your visit.

As in your home, unexpected problems can occur. If a drain clogs or the safe will not open, call the Front Desk for assistance. You can rest assured that the matter will be taken care of as quickly as possible, often within minutes. Any form of compensation for the inconvenience involved is not feasible nor should it be expected or requested.

Aside from the infrequent repairs, situations sometimes occur as a result of miscommunication or human error. For example, suppose your name is Johnston and you arrive only to find that a family named Johnson is occupying your unit. Once the error is resolved and moves take place, complimentary compensation should not be anticipated. As an additional example, suppose during a Saturday unit exchange something is broken and the breakage is unintentional but the result of poor packaging or the busy activities of the day. Accidents will happen. Rather than expecting some form of complimentary compensation, a sincere apology from Front Desk personnel should suffice.

Guests who insist upon complimentary compensation for inconvenience or honest mistakes must understand and accept the difference between hotel and Resort Management. Unlike hotels, the Pelican Resort and Pelican Marina Residences are non-profit. Owner dues cover operating expenses only. There are no funds to cover free dinners, extra nights, or gifts. The cost of such compensatory awards would come directly from owner dues.

This is your vacation home. If a problem arises, report it. Staff members will do everything possible to make your stay pleasant and comfortable, but they are not permitted to offer, nor allowed to give, free gifts. You can expect an apology for an inconvenience, but not a reward.

Please take a few minutes to read this section and familiarize yourself with resort services, policies and procedures. We try to keep the “Do’s” and “Don’ts” to a minimum, but rules exist to ensure that all of our owners and guests enjoy their

vacation and to help our staff maintain the Resorts in tiptop condition. Help us to help you to have the vacation of a lifetime.

To our Owners, welcome back to your vacation home, and to our guests, we trust you will have a wonderful stay with us. Please stop by the Pelican Room to renew old acquaintances, pick up the latest information on where to go and what to do, or learn more about the advantages of ownership.

You will find the staff informative and helpful.
