Elder’s Message “Worship & Music” By Marcia
Do you wonder about the different colors we use on the communion table and on the pulpit? They represent different seasons in the Christian calendar. During Lent our paraments are purple. The table and pulpit are adorned with this color until Good Friday. That day there is no color but sometimes black is used. On Easter we use white and gold and this will be used during the Easter Season which lasts until June 4th, which is Pentecost, and we go to red. This is a very short season, only one Sunday. The following Sunday is “Trinity” Sunday which is white. This too is only one day before we get into what is called “common time” or the time after Pentecost. This is when things are draped in green. The next time it is changed will be next fall when we get into Advent. The worship committee has decided to change the hymnals to the blue Presbyterian hym-nal. This will enable our visiting Presbyterian pastors to choose hymns, as many of them are famil-iar and use this hymnal. It is also the hymnal that the “box” (hymnal plus) is programed with. Our response to the “Forgiveness of Sin” during March will be “Jesus Loves Me”, one verse. For our final hymn as we leave we will go back to “Go Now In Peace”. Carolyn and Ralph Fry will be filling the pulpit on the first and last Sundays of March while Jon Nestor will give the message and officiate over communion on March 12th and Elders Sherri and Eric Seaman will serve. Reverend Montee Kennedy will speak on March 19th and moderate the Stated Session meeting following the service. Having a bank of Easter lilies on the Chancel was discussed. Allergy sufferers read on! If the yellow center of the lily is removed it takes away the allergen and the smell, therefore making them safe for everyone. If you are interested in purchasing a lily and participating, you can talk to anyone on the committee. You can buy and share in memory of someone, or just because! It is always so beauti-ful to see a bunch of lilies on Easter. From Lorne Bostwick: Committee on Ministry—dated 3/15/17 No candidates have been identified who could serve Waldport. Dawn has been keeping this on her radar. We have been notified that a couple of pastors who want to move to the Northwest and may land in the Cascades Presbytery but not enough details to give you any assessment of possibilities. At the Presbytery meeting we also identified two retired pastors who would have two hour drives to Waldport. We plan to have conversations with those pastors about what is available and about their willingness to serve but that is a long drive. If you have some ideas I could help you pursue I’m willing to do that. Jon Nestor has declined the invitation to interview for stated supply. He did say he is willing to help fill the pulpit occasional-ly. I’m sorry that the news is not better. Lorne Bostwick

HIGHLIGHTS OF STATED SESSION MEETING March19, 2017
Communion was served to 26 people on March 12, 2017.
Average worship attendance in March was 30.
Membership roll reflects 31 members.
Sherri Seaman attended the Presbytery Meeting in Albany on March 10-11, 2017. She gave a report on the workshops she attended which were very informative.
There will be the following training workshops during 2017, led by Rev. Ken Evers-Hood, pastor of the Tualatin Presbyterian Church: April 8th: Coping with the Humanity of the Church,
May 13th: Conflict: Fundamental to Ministry and Potentially Engaging and Positive,
October 28th: Making Better Decisions Together. $40 per seminar includes all materials
and lunch. Contact our church office for more information.
On the 5th Tuesday of the month we want to cook a dinner for our congregation, delivering to those who are homebound or do not drive at night. The first “fifth Tuesday” would be May 30th. Stay tuned for more information.
Sue Adams reported that in January, 2017, 36 volunteers helped cook and serve 190 people for the community breakfast. In February, 2017, 30 volunteers helped cook and serve 278 people for the community breakfast. Read & Feed, on January 8th, had 10 volunteers cooking and serving 59 people and on February 13th we had 13 volunteers cooking and
serving 55 people. What a wonderful Outreach program we provide!

All Are Welcome—Come as You Are!
Communion
Communion will be observed on April 2nd. In thankfulness for all that Christ has done for us, we remember to reach out with Christ’s love to those who are hit hard by this economic
downturn. Please remember to bring in your food donations and drop them off in the Wishing Well in the front entry of the church, or you may simply choose to make a monetary donation to Waldport Food Share by including it with your Sunday morning offering. Simply make a notation on the memo line for Waldport Food Share. Food Share is currently experiencing a shortage of food and having to turn folks away.
Our March donation to Waldport Food Share was 97pounds of food. Please remember to bring in your cans and other non-perishable items! Opened items cannot be accepted by Food Share.
