Closing Information 16
Over the past few months, I have told you about all the recent changes in the Center.
Most of you can see changes as you come in and look around. We have a beautiful Cen-
ter to come and enjoy whichever activity you choose, in a surrounding that has come full
circle. We are truly blessed.
As I write this message, we now have a new Assistant Manager in place. Kathy Spanier
has been an asset in just a short time. All have come to feel her exuberant personality,
and it seems she surely fits in. She comes to us with a background of kitchen and cater-
ing knowledge. But most important, she brings a smile and an ear to what you would
want here at the Center. Please make an effort to come in and welcome her.
During Kathy’s transition into the Center, we must all take the time to thank Ed
McManus—he has gone over and above to make Kathy feel comfortable, and to acquaint
her with the everyday needs of the Center.
All of you know that our rentals play a big part in bringing income into the Center so
that we can provide the many changes that make this place a wonderful environment.
We are grateful again, that each weekend we have weddings, graduations, showers, and
parties. We would not be able to provide this service if it was not for Emilio Gatone.
He truly is the Center. He spends many long hours here and gives families a part of him-
self to make sure it is their most joyous event.
You will also notice all of the beautiful geraniums that have been planted around the
Center. This took time and generosity by Sam Clark (a local student) and Buster and Pat
Guth. They are lovely, and we are grateful.
Our building constantly needs maintenance. As charges mount, Joe Marcavage has been
fixing and maintaining our lights, plumbing, and sprinkler system, all for no charge to
the Center. For this we are very grateul!
There are so many people we are truly grateful for. We have a wonderful functioning
Center. All of you know what you do! Thanks again!
- Debbie

The Pennridge Community Center
was founded in 1964 as the Upper
Bucks Branch of the Bucks County
Association of Retired and Senior
Citizens. The mission of the original
Center was to provide a facility for
retired and senior citizens to meet
friends and make new
acquaintances.
Over the years, the mission has
changed to provide for the needs of
the senior citizens of the 21st
century. The mission has expanded
to provide relevant information,
services, and activities necessary to
assure aging with health,
independence, and dignity.
The Pennridge Community Center is one of the four full- service senior citizen centers operated by the BUCKS COUNTY ASSOCIATION FOR RETIRED AND SENIOR CITIZENS (BCARSC), a non-profit corporation. The BCARSC is funded through the PA Department of Aging and through self-supporting projects. BCARSC is an equal opportunity employer. All programs and services provided at the four Centers are offered without regard to race, religion, political affilia-tion, or personal background. The Pennridge Community Center serves all citizens ages 55 and older who reside in the
boroughs of Dublin, Perkasie, Sellersville, Silverdale, and Telford and the townships of Bedminster, East Rockhill, Hilltown, and West Rockhill. The Pennridge Community Center is partially funded through the Bucks County Area Agency on Aging, the Pennsylvania Department on Aging, the Federal Food pro-gram, and self-supported projects. All operational expenses are the responsibility of the Cen-ter. The Executive Board, Ad-visory Board, Center Manager, and Assistant Manager are responsible to pursue all pos-sible sources to generate in-come.

The Center has been an active place the past two months.
In addition to the new landscaping and flowers, our Ameri-
can flag is flying high. We thank Craig Wilhelm and the
members of the American Legion Nase – Kraft Post 255 and
Mrs. Linda Beach and the students of Guth Elementary
School, and Senator Mensch for their generous contributions
which funded the flag pole project. A Thank You also goes
to Representative Clymer for supplying the flag, which had
flown over the Capitol in Harrisburg. Thank you also to Deb-
bie Scollon and Kathy Spanier for arranging for the memora-
ble Flag Day Ceremony.
Our Center has a beautiful patio which can be enjoyed dur-
ing the beautiful summer weather. Have you purchased a
signature brick for our patio? This is a great memorial to
your future family indicating that you were a proud member
of the Center. Veterans, a patio brick can also recognize
your branch of service to our country. Consider purchasing
your brick!
Our busy Center is staffed by dedicated volunteers. We
would be unable to function without them. Thank you for
the Good Work!

You will be able to view complet-

are many other benefits as a member.

a form to fill out and to pay the membership fee.
Toe Tappers
Please plan to attend the Toe
Tappers program in the Legacy

ble as it gets closer to this

Lunchtime TIME Changes
PLEASE NOTE: Effective July 1, 2013, our
lunchtime will be changing to NOON for all lunches.
We have determined that changing lunch to be served
at Noon will serve the members better, and it will
also be less stressful after preparing the Meals on
Wheels. This will be a trial for 2 months, and if all
goes well, we will adopt this permanently.

Watch for big changes in the library! Over the next
few months, the Library Ladies will be working to im-

The GrubSteak SweepStakes Are Back!
Over the years, the Center has benefitted from the
proceeds of the annual GrubSteaks Raffle which was
created by the late Nancy Keenan. In the past, the
SweepStakes have contributed more than $100,000
toward the building and operational expenses of the
Center. The Advisory Board is assuming the responsi-
bility to continue the project.
The GrubSteaks prizes will be different this year. The
first and second prizes will be $250 gift certificates to
Landis Market. The third and fourth prizes will be
$200 gift certificates to the Dublin Shop and Bag. The
fifth prize will be a $100 gift certificate to the Giant.
In addition, more than 60 gift certificates for local
restaurants and grocery stores will be awarded at a
special drawing at the Center on October 10, 2013.
GrubSteaks Raffle tickets will be on sale from July 7
through October 9 and can be purchased at communi-
ty events and also from the Center receptionist at a
cost of $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.

advise them, although we don’t need 10 for the trip to be
a go. On the Hagey trips, departure will be at Hagey
Tours in Franconia.

We will have a casino trip to the Showboat on August 27. We need 30 people to make this trip. Please sign-up for this trip by

As most of you know, the Newsletter has information about
the Center and Community. We should all be proud of the
Center, whether you read about it here in the Newsletter,
on the website, or better yet, in person at the Center.
There have been some changes this year, and we believe
they have all been for the best of the Center and our mem-
bership, with our classes and activities, lunches, and spe-
cial programs.
If you are an avid reader of the Newsletter and are reading
this right now, cut out this article, print your name on it, and
put it in the box on the receptionist desk. We will draw one
or maybe two entries for a free lunch in August (regular
lunch, not a special lunch). Enter by July 31.
We appreciate you being a member and an active member,
and hope to see you in the Center and at lunch often!

FLAG DAY Ceremony Pictures
Volunteer Luncheon
On Flag Day, June 14, a dedication of our new Flag
Pole was held. Craig Wilhelm, of Nase-Kraft American
Legion Post 255 of Sellersville, presided over the cer-
emony. Buster Guth, our Center President, also had a
short message and acknowledged those who made
donations, and he also presented the Legion with a
permanent plaque at the base of the flag pole. State
Representative Clymer also spoke, and he donated
the flag, which flew over the Capitol building in Har-
risburg. Blair Thomson also read his poem ‘Flag’.
The turnout was very good, roughly 60 people! Cake,
coffee and punch was served after the ceremony.
Thank you to all who attended!
The 31st Annual Bucks County Senior Games took place from
June 10 to June 14, 2013, for those age 50 and older.
Events scheduled included Darts, Table Tennis (singles and

Trivia. These events are held either at one of the Bucks
County Centers or local venues for Golf, and Bowling.
As you know, our Center hosted the Billiards Competition.
Jack Woolsey was the host and director. The participants
from many centers enjoyed their games, and had a great
time at our Center. And in the Men’s 70-79 age bracket,
our Center had Gold, Silver, and Bronze medalists.
Congratulations to all!

A Committee has been working on emergency procedures for the Center. As
we roll-out phases of the procedures, we will have drills to see that we all
know what to do. This process is taking time to complete, as we want to
ensure we have all issues addressed for everyone’s safety.
One item that has already been put into place, as a test for now, is the Sign-
In sheet at the receptionist’s desk, with the TIME IN and TIME OUT for each
person. EVERYONE needs to sign-in when you come into the Center, and then
sign-out when you leave. With this information, in an emergency, we will
then know who is still in the building. This will become MANDATORY by the
Fall, so please start accurately signing in and out now.
