1. FACILITATE AND INSPIRE STUDENT LEARNING AND CREATIVITY

The ability to inspire students interest and allow them to draw upon their own research to express their perspective about the use of Hydraulic fracturing is invigorating!

Hydraulic fracturing is an innovational process that has caused citizens to be concern with the environmental consequences attributed to its use for household electricity.

This subject enabled me to advance students knowledge and creativity with a real-life issue facing our society today.

This lesson has encouraged students to draw forth their own conclusions through research using Internet sources that are reliable and factual.

2. DESIGN AND DEVELOP DIGITAL AGE LEARNING EXPERIENCES AND

ASSESSMENTS

Every single assignment prepared me, encouraged me, tested me, and gave me an immense amount of technological knowledge to use in the classroom.

I gained the ability to design and develop Digital Age Learning Experiences and Assessments in any subject area at any grade level.

The many different applications that I completed is a treasure trove and a powerful resource I will keep with me throughout my teaching career and I will always be adding and updating with new versions of technology.

I will highlight several different assignments that helped me attain unto the ability of eliciting my knowledge and skills.

DESIGN OR ADAPT RELEVANT LEARNING EXPERIENCES THAT INCORPORATE DIGITAL TOOLS AND RESOURCES TO PROMOTE STUDENT LEARNING AND CREATIVITY

The Web-Quest assignment sent students on a mysterious journey back to 19th Century Europe.

This lesson plan incorporated the digital tool “Zunal,” that enhanced the students creativity.

It also enabled digital learning as the students followed the clues to discover who the mysterious person was that brought life back into the city of Soho, London.

Page 8: Penny Roberts IDT 3600 – Dr. Ellen J. McDonald

DEVELOP TECHNOLOGY-ENRICHED LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS THAT ENABLE ALL STUDENTS TO PURSUE THEIR INDIVIDUAL CURIOSITIES AND BECOME ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS IN SETTING

THEIR OWN EDUCATIONAL GOALS, MANAGING THEIR OWN LEARNING, AND ASSESSING THEIR OWN PROGRESS

The spreadsheet I completed asked me to calculate three different restaurant’s calories and DVR’s intake concerning the same meal for each one and to compare them as to which restaurant was actually the best according to their caloric and DVR content.

I chose to take this a step further and calculate my favorite fast food restaurant “Wendy’s” and discovered that it has the highest in calories & DVR’s compared to Burger King and McDonald’s (small burger, small fries, and small coke).

This assignment will encourage students to set their own goals and manage their learning at their own pace.

CUSTOMIZE AND PERSONALIZE LEARNING ACTIVITIES TO ADDRESS STUDENTS’ DIVERSE LEARNING STYLES, WORKING

STRATEGIES, AND ABILITIES USING DIGITAL TOOLS AND RESOURCES

The Interactive Learning Activity is a list of different Web 2.0 tools that can be used in the classroom allowing diversification per student’s abilities.

The ten different tools that were researched allowed customization and personalized learning activities that address student’s diverse learning styles.

For example: “Interactive Sites for Education,” will enable students to learn through their visual and touch senses, and auditory senses when adding Screencast-o-Matic.

3. MODEL DIGITAL AGE WORK ANDLEARNING

The completion of my Field Experience with Katrina Young, the STEM instructor at Northeast Middle School

Has enabled me to learn what is required of a teacher

When they possess the knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society.

Page 11: Penny Roberts IDT 3600 – Dr. Ellen J. McDonald

DEMONSTRATE FLUENCY IN TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS AND THE TRANSFER OF CURRENT KNOWLEDGE TO

NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND SITUATIONS

Mrs. Young’s expertise in the field of STEM technology led me to discover what direction I will further my career so I am fluently knowledgeable in teaching technology within my class curriculum.

I witnessed students working on different engineering designs that had characteristic flaws.

The students discovered the cause of the flaws, and the necessary adjustments to remedy the issue, eliminating the flaw from future designs.

The students transferred current knowledge using today’s technological advancements to yesterday’s engineering designs and created a more reliable structure.

Page 12: Penny Roberts IDT 3600 – Dr. Ellen J. McDonald

COMMUNICATE RELEVANT INFORMATION AND IDEAS EFFECTIVELY TO STUDENTS, PARENTS, AND PEERS USING

A VARIETY OF DIGITAL AGE MEDIA AND FORMATS

Mrs. Young had the students load their presentations onto her flash drive that was kept within the school guidelines of safety, thus enabling her to save the student’s work for future use.

The students presentations were video taped to share with their peers and with the student’s parents.

The web tool “Edmodo” was used in her classroom allowing the student’s presentations to be uploaded for other student’s to comment on, and for parents to have instant access.

Page 13: Penny Roberts IDT 3600 – Dr. Ellen J. McDonald

MODEL AND FACILITATE EFFECTIVE USE OF CURRENT AND EMERGING DIGITAL TOOLS TO LOCATE, ANALYZE, EVALUATE, AND USE INFORMATION RESOURCES TO

SUPPORT RESEARCH AND LEARNING

Mrs. Young would display the Common Core State Standards and the Tennessee State Standards on her promethean board for students referral while they were engaged with building their presentations.

4. PROMOTE AND MODEL DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP AND RESPONSIBILITY

During the entire IDT 3600 course I learned new ways of presenting instructions through the use of different technological tools and I referenced all giving proper acknowledgment of original source.

Because of the importance of local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture, I must exhibit legal and ethnical behavior in all my professional and personal practices.

The digital age opens up gateways to everyone's material that reaches the World-Wide-Web, therefore integrity of character is of a tantamount necessity.

Page 15: Penny Roberts IDT 3600 – Dr. Ellen J. McDonald

ADVOCATE, MODEL, AND TEACH SAFE, LEGAL, AND ETHICAL USE OF DIGITAL INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY, INCLUDING RESPECT FOR COPYRIGHT,

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, AND THE APPROPRIATE DOCUMENTATION OF SOURCES

Our first day class we were instructed on the procedures of Academic Integrity and Plagiarism. We were given detail rules of harsh consequences of plagiarism.

During the first class period we were also told: “Don’t try to reinvent the wheel.” Meaning that when I did chose to use material from the Internet I did give

acknowledgement and reference the work that assisted me in my educational pursuits.

“Academic Integrity and Plagiarism. Academic integrity is central to the learning and teaching process. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that will contribute to the maintenance of academic integrity by making all reasonable efforts to prevent the occurrence of academic dishonesty.”

PROMOTE AND MODEL DIGITAL ETIQUETTE AND RESPONSIBLE SOCIAL INTERACTIONS RELATED TO THE

USE OF TECHNOLOGY AND INFORMATION

I discovered the Web 2.0 tool Edmodo for use in the classroom that allows teachers to connect, assess, personalize, and engage students to interact with each other sharing ideas, school projects and many more avenues of interaction.

Edmodo is an application that works within the school guidelines therefore enabling teachers to choose who can or can not join the network.

The content is monitored to encourage students to model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions.

Page 17: Penny Roberts IDT 3600 – Dr. Ellen J. McDonald

DEVELOP AND MODEL CULTURAL UNDERSTANDING AND GLOBAL AWARENESS BY ENGAGING WITH COLLEAGUES AND STUDENTS OF

OTHER CULTURES USING DIGITAL AGE COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION TOOLS

Voice Treads is the answer to engaging with colleagues and students from all over the world.

It is an online collaborative, multi media slide show, allowing educators to post a variety of topics using images, documents, or videos, and in turn encourage students to comment on them.

Students have the ability to create their own Voice Thread through the use of multiple conversations that are going on at the same time, adding depth to the topic.

Voice Threads is a world wide community limited to educational members, students, and schools that are registered on the network.

5. ENGAGE IN PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND LEADERSHIP

To be able to keep current in a 21st Century classroom I will further my education in the STEM program acquiring my masters.

I discovered through my Field Experience that we can not afford to rest in our educational endeavors but consistently increase our knowledge of technology if we are to stay in tune with the modern world and lead our students into a global civilization.

This class has taught me to continuously improve upon my professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in the school and community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources.

Page 19: Penny Roberts IDT 3600 – Dr. Ellen J. McDonald

PARTICIPATE IN LOCAL AND GLOBAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES TO EXPLORE CREATIVE APPLICATIONS OF TECHNOLOGY TO IMPROVE STUDENT LEARNING

I discovered the STEM program during my Field Experience hours

Realizing that if I was to succeed as an enthusiastic, knowledgeable teacher,

I had to continue my education after I earned my “Teaching All Learners” degree,

To acquire my masters in the STEM program so that I will be best equipped to improve student learning and help them move into their future with the necessary tools for success.

Page 20: Penny Roberts IDT 3600 – Dr. Ellen J. McDonald

EVALUATE AND REFLECT ON CURRENT RESEARCH AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE ON A REGULAR BASIS TO MAKE EFFECTIVE USE OF EXISTING AND EMERGING DIGITAL TOOLS AND RESOURCES IN SUPPORT OF

STUDENT LEARNING

The modern cell phone was used during my “Mobile Learning Project” where a scavenger hunt came into action.

The hunt allowed students to research local historical facts about the city in which they lived.

During a long holiday weekend students are engaged in searching for clues, collecting images, and completing challenges at the clue locations.

The students benefited by learning about their community in a fun and interesting way using mobile technology as a means for acquiring knowledge.

Page 21: Penny Roberts IDT 3600 – Dr. Ellen J. McDonald

CONTRIBUTE TO THE EFFECTIVENESS, VITALITY, AND SELF-RENEWAL OF THE TEACHING PROFESSION AND

OF THEIR SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY

I will encourage a program of study within the University of Memphis at Lambuth that will allow me to achieve my masters in the field of STEM educational learning.

At present not one school of higher learning in the state of Tennessee offers STEM as an option.

Tennessee has implemented the Common Core State Standards within their public school curriculum

STEM is an indispensable adjunct of higher learning if we are to succeed in the 21st Century classroom.
