LECTORS & INTERCESSORS AT MASS TODAY !

THE COLLECT Blessed Lord, who caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them, that we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of eternal life, which you have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. !THE FIRST READING: !READER: A Reading from the Word of God written in

the Book of Malachi Chapter 3 beginning at the 13th verse

"Your words have been stout against me, says the LORD. Yet you say, `How have we spoken against thee?' You have said, `It is vain to serve God. What is the good of our keeping his charge or of walking as in mourning before the LORD of hosts? Henceforth we deem the arrogant blessed; evildoers not only prosper but when they put God to the test they escape.'" Then those who feared the LORD spoke with one another; the LORD heeded and heard them, and a book of remembrance was written before him of those who feared the LORD and thought on his name. "They shall be mine, says the LORD of hosts, my special possession on the day when I act, and I will spare them as a man spares his son who serves him. Then once more you shall distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between one

who serves God and one who does not serve him. "For behold, the day comes, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble; the day that comes shall burn them up, says the LORD of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch. But for you who fear my name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings."Behold, I will send you Eli'jah the prophet before the great and terrible day of the LORD comes. And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the land with a curse."  Reader: Here ends the Reading. ALL: Thanks be to God. !PSALM 98 Cantate Domino.

1.Sing to the Lord a new song, * for he has done marvellous things.

2.With his right hand and his holy arm * has he won for himself the victory.

3.The Lord has made known his victory;* his righteousness has he openly shown in the sight of the nations.

4.He remembers his mercy and faithfulness to the house of Israel, * and all the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God .

5. Shout with joy to the Lord, all you lands; * lift up your voice, rejoice, and sing.

6.Sing to the Lord with the harp, * with the harp and the voice of song.

7.With trumpets and the sound of the horn* shout with joy before the King, the Lord.

8.Let the sea make a noise and all that is in it, * the lands and those who dwell therein.

9.Let the rivers clap their hands, * and let the hills ring out with joy before the Lord, when he comes to judge the earth.

10.In righteousness shall he judge the world* and the peoples with equity. !

Glory to the Father, and to the Son;*and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning is now:*and shall be forever. Amen !THE EPISTLE A Reading from the Word of God written in the Second Letter to the Thessalonians Chapter 3 beginning at the 6th verse. Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep away from any brother who is living in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us; we were not idle when we were with you,  we did not eat any one's bread without paying, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not burden any of you. It was not because we have not that right, but to give you in our conduct an example to imitate. For even when we were with you, we gave you this command: If any one will not work, let him not eat. For we hear that some of you are living in idleness, mere busybodies, not doing any work. Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work in quietness and to earn their own living. Brethren, do not be weary in well-doing.  Reader: Here ends the Reading. ALL: Thanks be to God. !!!

THE HOLY GOSPEL Gospeller: The Lord be with you

All: And also with you Gospeller: A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to

Luke Glory to Christ our Saviour.

At that time as some spoke of the temple, how it was adorned with noble stones and offerings, Jesus said, "As for these things which you see, the days will come when there shall not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down." And they asked him, "Teacher, when will this be, and what will be the sign when this is about to take place?" And he said, "Take heed that you are not led astray; for many will come in my name, saying, `I am he!' and, `The time is at hand!' Do not go after them. And when you hear of wars and tumults, do not be terrified; for this must first take place, but the end will not be at once." Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven. But before all this they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name's sake. This will be a time for you to bear testimony. Settle it therefore in your minds, not to meditate beforehand how to answer;  for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict.  You will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and kinsmen and friends, and some of you they will put to death;  you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But not a hair of your head will perish.  By your endurance you will gain your lives.

Gospeller: The Gospel of Christ. ALL: Praise to Christ our Lord.

From the Rector’s Notebook Greetings: !The Liturgical Year is swiftly coming to an end. Next Sunday is the final Sunday of the Church’s year. The Sunday following, (December 1) will mark the First Sunday of Advent or Advent Sunday. !The movement of the year tells us that time does not stand still; but is constantly on the move. Along with the passage of time there is the accompanying change that goes hand in hand with it. !We acknowledge as christians that the constant in the world of change is our Heavenly Father who continues to loves us and remains with us in the midst of the changes and chances of this mortal life. !In just a few weeks we will celebrate once again the fact the the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. (John 1:14) !The mystery of the incarnation says that God almighty has entered human history in a dramatic way, never again to leave. !The Paschal Mystery which we celebrate every time we come to mass, that is, Jesus’ crucifixion, resurrection, ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit does not suggest that God has left us. !In mysterious fashion the God who ascends forty days after the mighty resurrection is the One who remains with us forever. He is true to his promise

when he says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you”. !The liturgical year then gives us that opportunity to observe the sacred presence and we, by virtue o f our care, compass ion, pat ience and understanding of others continue to give credence to the notion that God almighty is present in us. !As we look back over the spiritual year let us ask ourselves, what are those events or those moments when we felt the unseen hand of God almighty leading us and guiding us. !We must be aware that it is not only in joyful events; but also at challenging times that we have that gentle reminder that God almighty has been there all along. !Let us give thanks for the church’s year that is drawing to a close and as we look to the Feast of Christ the King we pray that our Lord may be enthroned in our hearts, homes, work places and all of the institutions of our land. !Your friend and priest, !!Noel A. Burke, MA, (The Rev’d Canon) Rector
