There are countless examples around the world of lives being lost

from collapse of structures & buildings, which have failed due to not

being built with the prescribed & standardized reinforcement steel.

Architects and engineers worldwide are becoming rigorously stringent

and demanding as far as usage of reinforcement steel is concerned.

India's need for high-strength and high-ductility rebars has seen a

tremendous upswing in terms of consumption because of rapid

urbanization and with the fact that 60% of India is in the high-hazard

seismic zones 3, 4 and 5.

To corroborate this fact a primary qualitative research with a sample

size of 3000 users was conducted by us in and around northern India

and respondent included:

Trade dealers (wholesale & retail)

Builders (institutional & individual)

Key influencer group like architects, engineers & bar benders

Retail end consumers

Market wanted a product which would be quality wise similar to

that of primary producers.

Respondents were quite aware of the high ductility and high

yield strength feature of rebar for a more Safe & secure

construction.

Price wise respondents wanted a more comfort zone when

compared to primary producers.

Defendo QT Rebars are rolled out using one of the most recognized

and worldwide trusted TEMPCORE PROCESS for producing high

strength reinforcing steel.

Defendo QT Rebars are quenched to red-hot rolled steel immediately

after the last stage of hot rolling. A hard and strong martensitic outer

casing is formed, which the internal heat of the bar tempers to some

extent, while the centre cools more slowly to form a softer more

ductile Ferrite/Pearlite core.

This is Quench and Self Tempered (QST) process & is the combination

of high strength case and ductile core working in conjunction with one

another, which provides the mechanical properties as stipulated by ISI

and International Standards.

Chemical composition tested Billets as per IS:2830/2008 are

used as a raw material for manufacturing our rebars.

If chemical analyses of Billets are satisfactory and confirming to

the requirements as specified in IS: 2830-6914, the said raw

material is utilized for further processing otherwise marked and

returned.

Defendo QT rebars display uniform elongation across the entire length as compared to uniformity only at fracture as per BIS code. This poses a grave risk to residents of building in high seismic hazard places.

Defendo QT Rebars exhibits desired range of Carbon, very low levels

of Sulphur & Phosphorous and also has excellent dimensional

tolerance and surface finish.

Sulphur (S) and Phosphorus (P) in varying levels, reduces the strength

of steel in extreme hot and cold conditions thus making it brittle and

prone to develop cracks.

internationally accepted standards such as British standard B.S.

4449 Grade 500, Australia-New Zealand standard AS/NZS 4671

DEFENDS

Ductility is ability of a structure to undergo large deformations and

deflections when overloaded.

Unique process of heat treatment technology induces high strength in

DEFENDO QT rebars, yet retaining the modulus of plain carbon steel,

210 Gpa [29,000,000 psi] as shown in the stress-strain graph below.

Three internationally recognised Ductility Grades are:

Low (L), Normal (N) and Earthquake / Seismic (E) *

Defendo QT exhibits same properties as in Grade(E) rebars, which are

most suitable for Structure & Construction in seismic zones 3,4 & 5.

The measures for ductility are Uniform Elongation and the Tensile

Strength/ Yield Stress Ratio.

UTS or Ultimate Tensile Strength is defined as the ultimate stress a

material can withstand. This defines the ductility for the material.

Our high grade rebars provide a higher UTS/YS ratio making to the

factor that it helps in saving steel. Studies prove a higher tensile

strength in rebars result in less consumption of steel, which means

more saving .
