a) Elected 16th President in 1860-1865

b) Abolitionist

c) January 1863-Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves in rebelling states

d) November 1863- Gettysburg Address wanted to preserve a government “of the people, by the people, and for the people.” This speech turned the Civil War into a war for Union and freedom.
