Pe cíty of å qllo,tl Il Lalres:- PROCLAMATION PROCLAIMING AUGUST E, 2015 AS VELMA KARGEL D^A.Y WHEREAS, Velma Mary Vanscoy Kargel was born on April 27,1921, and she is one ofthe longest living residents in the City of Pequot Lakes; and WHU'.¡¡B¡50 WHEREAS, Velma Kargel was married to Leonard Lewis Kargel. ':. Velma and Leonard were owners and operators of Kargel Plum'bing, Appliance, and Laundromat from the years of 1947 to 1984. Their business was very successful and they won many competitions receiving award trips all over the world for their hardworking efforts. WIIEREAS' Velma would work at the store and laundry while raisírrg seven children. She wanted people to know that if you are willing to work hard, you could make a good living in Pequot Lakes. WI{EREAS, ln June of 1948, velma and Leonard bought the big white house with the pillared porch located at 4452 Oriole Street in Pequot Lakes. The house was ran as a hotel for many years. The house was also known as Mother's Inn and used as a place for prayer meetings and bible studies which were attended by young and old from the Pequot Lakes area. Velma is known as a prayer warior in Pequot Lakes. Velma currently resides in the house today. WIIEREAS, Velma has seven children, and approximately 100 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. WIIEREAS' Velma Kargel loves the of Pequot Lakes and is happy she has lived here all her life with the exception of a few years while she and her husband moved to Michigan where Leonard worked at the Ford plant to build bombers for the USA \ryI{EREAS' Velma Kargel has been a respected citizen of Pequot Lakes for 89 years. Nolv, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLYED, that David sjoblad, Mayor of pequot Lakes, acknowledges Velma Kargel as an outstanding citizen in the community, and hereby proclaims August 8,2015, as Velma Kargel Day.
