ShoppingPerak’s thriving cottage industry can be mainly found in Kuala Kangsar, focusing on traditional crafts. The state’s most popular handicraft is the labu sayong, a unique gourd-shaped receptacle made from clay, with Kampung Sayong in Kuala Kangsar being its main producer. Other popular handcrafted items include batik, earthenware, tekat (golden-thread embroidery), bamboo carvings and souvenirs made from seashells. The best places to find a wide range of traditional handicrafts are Enggor Handicraft Centre and Pulau Tiga Handicraft Centre. Ipoh has several shopping malls, the biggest being Ipoh Parade and Kinta City Shopping Complex. Night markets such as Gerbang Malam near the Birch Clock Tower are perfect hunting grounds for great bargains.

DiningIpoh is a well-known centre for Chinese cuisine. The popular ones include Sar Hor Fun, Hor Hee, Dim Sum and Hainanese Chicken Rice. Rendang Tok, a Malay dish unique to Perak, is also popular. Other local favourites include Menglembu groundnuts, kacang Putih Buntong, Tambun pomelos, Tanjung Malim Pau (Chinese steamed buns), Kampar Chicken Biscuits and the hugely popular Ipoh White Coffee.

Air-conditioned shuttle services from KLIA to Ipoh are available, as well as bus services from Pudu Sentral and Hentian Duta in KL and Butterworth in Penang. Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) provides rail services to all major town in Perak, namely Sungkai, Batu Gajah, Ipoh, Kuala Kangsar and Taiping.
