PROGRAM CHANGESSUBMITTED FOR BOARD APPROVAL:

PROGRAM CHANGE FROM: TO:

Current program name:TRAVEL INDUSTRY

New name of program:TRAVEL/TOURISM INDUSTRY

S06Justification:Change in name better aligns with the industry as it exists today. Travel has traditionally applied to international travel and the concept of sending people away from their home. Today’s industry has broadened from just “outbound travel” to “inbound travel” or tourism, requiring skills and knowledge in both areas. The new name better reflects that need as well as the revised content of our certificates. Travel/Tourism is offered only at Vista.

Justification:Though this program was approved by Vista’s Curriculum Committee and CIPD last spring, when it went to the State Chancellor’s office for approval over the summer several changes were required by that office prior to it being approved. The chancellor’s office originally denied the program due to “insufficient university articulation.” In consultation with appropriate Vista Faculty and Administration, the course work was modified by adding one year of foreign language, POSCI 3 (International Relations) and HIST 23 (Global Perspectives). Vista’s Curriculum Committee has approved the changes. This degree is only offered at Vista.
