Performance-based AssessmentTESTS VS. TALKS

What is it?

Performance-based Assessment approach to education enables pupils to use their knowledge and apply skills in realistic situations.

Traditional assessments of student performance have relied heavily on standardized testing methods.

Performance-based testing is an alternative that is designed to encompass a better overall representation of students progress.

Can it be done? The idea with performance-based testing is to gather a

demonstration of the scope of knowledge has on a subject.

Instead of testing the accuracy of their responses on a selection of questions.

The problem lies in having enough staff to implement this new way of testing students.

A Brave New World

The outcome of performance-based testing has largely been reviewed as a technique that has the potential to encompass a wider base of learning levels.

Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy

What is Taxonomy?

The science or technique of classification. A classification into ordered categories: a proposed taxonomy of educational objectives.

Benjamin Bloom

In the 1956, Benjamin Bloom, an educational psychologist working at the University of Chicago, developed his taxonomy of Educational Objectives. His taxonomy of learning objectives has become a key tool in structuring and understanding the learning process.

He proposed that learning fits into one of three psychological domains:

The Cognitive domain – processing information, knowledge and mental skills.

The Affective domain – emotions, attitudes and feelings.

The Psychomotor domain – manipulative, manual or physical skills

What is Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy? Bloom's Digital Taxonomy isn't about the tools or technologies

rather it is about using these to facilitate learning. Outcomes on rubrics are measured by competence of use and most importantly the quality of the process or product.

For example: Bookmarking a resource is of no value if the resource is inappropriate, invalid, out of date or inaccurate.
