Offenbach: Orpheus in the UnderworldJun 2013

WeLcome

I am delighted to introduce Trinity Laban’s Diary of Music Performances and Events for Autumn 2013. As our new students begin to familiarise themselves with their chosen programme of study, returning students will already be looking forward to the whole host of varied and exciting performance opportunities the start of the new academic year represents.

Giving their first performance of the academic year, don’t miss our Symphony Orchestra on 4 October at Blackheath Halls. On this occasion, students will perform alongside members of the teaching staff, providing them with an exceptional opportunity to get to know some of the incredibly talented and experienced artists with whom they are studying.

Regular supporters of Trinity Laban’s performance programme will be aware of our exciting partnership with Southbank Centre; our groundbreaking collaborations continue to provide Trinity Laban students with unique performance opportunities. This autumn, as part of The Rest is Noise Festival 2013, our students will be performing in the Foyer of this world-famous arts centre, from a musical snapshot of 1964 in October to a re-creation of a 1990 record by a jazz punk super group in December. For something different still, on 27 October, join us in the Queen Elizabeth Hall for a performance by Vocal Department students of Stockhausen’s Stimmung.

In November, the Royal Greenwich International Early Music Festival and Exhibition – a significant event in the calendar for professionals, students, amateurs and early music aficionados alike – returns to the Old Royal Naval College. The autumn season includes many more highlights. Key amongst these are performances by Trinity Laban Jazz Department students and staff as part of the London Jazz Festival and the workshops and performances of Junior Trinity's first full weekend residency at LSO St Luke’s.

Finally, if you are inspired to get more involved, our Music Learning and Participation programme offers opportunities for people of all ages to take part in a wide range of performances, you can hire Trinity Laban musicians to perform at your event, or perhaps you might consider sponsoring one of our students or performances. More information can be found on pages 23–27.

PROKOFIEV FESTIVALThe Prokofiev family has had a longstanding connection with Trinity Laban’s concert venue, Blackheath Halls. Sergei’s widow, Lina, lived in Blackheath during the 1980s, and his son, Oleg, was a supporter of the Halls.

This festival features an exhibition of Oleg’s paintings and sculpture and Sergei’s grandson, Gabriel, hosts a special club night: Nonclassical Meets Trinity Laban at Blackheath. There will also be individual recitals and performances, talks, and an enchanting shadow puppet theatre production of Peter and the Wolf. On these pages are listed the concerts that our students and staff are participating in, from a lunchtime recital at the Chapel to Gabriel Prokofiev’s groundbreaking classical club night.

suPPort usTrinity Laban is one of the most innovative and forward focused of the UK conservatories and we are indebted to our friends and supporters who contribute vital funds to help maintain the highest standards of excellence in all aspects of our work.

Philanthropic support for student scholarships and bursaries is the most direct and rewarding way to ensure the future of our next generation of musicians and dance artists. Our Scholarship Fund exists to help talented young artists attain the very highest levels of training regardless of income and personal circumstances.

Donations from charitable trusts and individuals also support events and activities that enhance our world class status. In music, these include masterclasses, visiting artists, junior fellowships, mentoring schemes, festivals, and chamber music programmes.

Supporters enjoy many opportunities to get behind the scenes at Trinity Laban. Meeting students and their teachers, watching rehearsals and attending events are some of the many ways in which we show our appreciation for the warmth and generosity that sustains and supports our work and our art forms.

Contact us at any time to find out more about giving to Trinity Laban and sharing in our work.
