Case Example 1
• Nathan is 30 years old and diagnosed with ASD
and Schizoaffective Disorder. When he was 28
years old he was charged with making terroristic
threats directed at his employer after his employer
told him his work ethic needed to improve. He was
fired as a result of threatening to blow up the
workplace. He continued to stalk his supervisor on
social media and made threats of physical harm.
He was arrested and spent 6 months in the county
jail. Upon his release, he was placed on probation
for 3 years. He is currently residing with his
brother. They often get into altercations and the
police have responded to the home for crisis
intervention purposes.

What law enforcement risks should be identified?

Where should the PRE information go in the ISP?

ISP Documentation: General Health & Safety Risks
“As per the PRE, Rusty has a history of law
enforcement involvement. In 2018, he was
charged with making terroristic threats at his
former place of employment after he was
confronted by his supervisor about his work
performance. On the job site he threatened to
blow up the building. Upon his termination, he
stalked his former supervisor online and
threatened physical harm. Rusty served six
months in the county jail. He was released on
probation and has a year left of probation,
provided he meets all the requirements.”

Risk Mitigation Strategies

ISP: Risk Mitigation Documentation
Using the case example, the mitigation may be as
follows:
“As a condition of his release, Rusty has a court order
in place to stay off social media. Behavioral Support
services are in place to teach coping strategies,
especially in situations where Rusty feels he is being
criticized. The BSP is restrictive due to the internet
and cell phone access to social media (See BSP/CIP).
Rusty meets with his probation office every other
week.”

Case Example 2
• Chelsea is 27 years old and lives in her own
apartment. Chelsea has a tendency to “hang out”
with the teenagers who reside in the same building
and their friends. The police have responded
several times over the past year for noise
complaints. Chelsea is typically warned about
playing her music too loud and she turns off her
music without complaint. Last month, a neighbor
called the police for a noise complaint, but when the
police arrived they found a party in Chelsea’s
apartment with many underage teenagers
consuming alcohol. Chelsea is charged with
providing alcohol to minors and has an upcoming
hearing date.

What law enforcement risks should be identified?
10/21/20
ISP: General Health & Safety Risks
“As per the PRE, Chelsea is currently involved
with the justice system. In September 2020, the
police responded to Chelsea’s apartment because
the neighbor called in a noise complaint. When
the police arrived, they discovered a party in
Chelsea’s apartment with several underage
teenagers consuming alcohol. Chelsea was
charged with serving alcohol to minors. She was
waiting for a court date in November 2020. It is
noted that Chelsea has a tendency to “hang out”
with underage teenagers. She states that she
feels comfortable with them and they are
accepting of her.”10/21/20
ISP: Risk Mitigation
Using the previous example, the mitigation may be as
follows:
“Chelsea is working with a behavior specialist and a
therapist to assist her in developing social skills that
will enable her to develop peer relationships with
those in her age group. The team is also working to
educate Chelsea on the risks of continuing to “hang
out” with teenagers much younger than she. Chelsea
is very interested in enhancing her cooking skills; thus
her team is assisting her in locating a cooking class at
the local community college. While enhancing her
cooking skills, it is hoped it will connect her with others
closer her age and decreases the amount of time she
is not meaningfully engaged.”10/21/20
