CHICKASAW CHALLENGE: MONDAY

• Draw an outline of the periodic table. Mark as many ways as you can that it is organized. (ex. Groups, periods, etc)

Boys Essays onDesk.

CLASS PLEDGE• We Will…• Work Hard NOT because we have to but

because we WANT to for our own success and future.

• We Can…• Achieve excellence through hard work

and motivation• We All…• Work together to reach our greatest

potential • Our Future…• Is college bound!!!

• SWBAT describe the trends of the periodic table.

• SWBAT to determine the Reactivity of Element based on Position of periodic table

• SPI 0807.9.9 Use the periodic table to determine the properties of an element.

DAILY OBJECTIVE

RAPID REVIEW

• Find Your Match!!!.. You will each get a word or a definition you will have 5 minutes to find your MATCH. • Expectations:• You have to walk only.• Must only be at a whisper• Spread your self around the room. • Sit with partner when you think you have found

your match. • The room should have a BUZZ!! No louder• Best class will get 5 tickets a piece on Tuesday.

Page 6: PERIODIC TABLE CONTINUES…. MS. BOLOGNA. CHICKASAW CHALLENGE: MONDAY Draw an outline of the periodic table. Mark as many ways as you can that it is organized

PERIODS

• Periods tell you the number of shells in an Atom.

Page 7: PERIODIC TABLE CONTINUES…. MS. BOLOGNA. CHICKASAW CHALLENGE: MONDAY Draw an outline of the periodic table. Mark as many ways as you can that it is organized

GROUPS

• The groups tell us the number of electrons in the very last shell (valence)!!• This helps us determine how reactive an element

is.

Page 8: PERIODIC TABLE CONTINUES…. MS. BOLOGNA. CHICKASAW CHALLENGE: MONDAY Draw an outline of the periodic table. Mark as many ways as you can that it is organized

REACTIVITY

• The very last group (18) has an outer shell that is full! This means it is not able to combine or react with other elements!!• Elements with the least number of electrons in

the outer shell are more likely to REACT or Bond with other elements.

PUT IT ALL TOGETHER..

• Hydrogen (H) , Lithium (Li), Sodium (Na), Berellium (Be)

• 1. Line yourself up according to what it would look like on the periodic table• 2. Match the amount of shells with the correct element• 3. Match then valence electrons with the element. • 4. Which is the most/ least reactive?

Page 12: PERIODIC TABLE CONTINUES…. MS. BOLOGNA. CHICKASAW CHALLENGE: MONDAY Draw an outline of the periodic table. Mark as many ways as you can that it is organized

DAILY ACTIVITY

• Create the Periodic Table and Make sure it Includes:• Metals, nonmetal, Metalloids• Periods and groups• Trend of Periods (show number of shells in each

period)• Trend of groups ( show number of valence

electrons in each)• Reactivity: show what the reactivity will be as

you go from the outside to the inside.

TUESDAY: CHICKASAW CHALLENGE

• Complete an A-Z that involves what we have learned about the periodic table. You should have a word for every letter in the alphabet. • Example:• A: atoms• B: Berillium• C:

RAPID REVIEW

• Taboo!!!• You will read the word on the card. By

talking you have to try and make your classmates guess the word without saying the Taboo words. • Cannot shout out or you will LOOSE the

POINT. • 3 Points in order to get credit.

Example:Basement:

House, cellar, dark, bottom, below,

REVIEW STATIONS

• You need to finish at least 3 stations by the end of the class period. You may move from station to station as you like but YOU MAY NOT have more than 5 at a station.• Station 1: Traveling questions• Station 2: Crossword Puzzle• Station 3: Dice Role. Choose one of the activities

to complete. • Station 4: Cumulative review• Station 5: Study Island Lesson and quiz

EXPECTATIONS

• 1. On task!! 1, 2 and you are getting a zero• 2. Walking at al times• 3. Working independently not because you have to but because you want to • 4. Ask 2 before me

• Station 1:•  • A potter molded wet clay into the shape of a bowl and let it dry. The

potter know the clay went through a physical change when it became a bowl because the bowl

• is a different color than the wet clay• is the same substance as the wet clay• has a different texture than the wet clay• holds the same amount of water as the wet clay•  • Which of these indicates a chemical change?• heat is given off when two liquids are mixed• a clear solution becomes cloudy when a solid is added• the volume of a liquid increases when another substance is added• A clear liquid bubbles when it reaches its boiling point

• A student was given samples of four different liquids, A, B, C, and D. The student poured equal amounts of two different liquid samples into several test tubes. The results are shown in test tubes 1, 2, 3, and 4.• What physical property of the liquids causes them

to separate into different layers when poured into the test tubes?

• Which statement best describes the reactivity of the shaded elements nitrogen (N), oxygen (O), and

• fluorine (F)?• The nonmetals increase in reactivity from right to

left in the same period. • Oxygen is the most reactive of all the elements

listed. • The nonmetals decrease in reactivity from right to

left in the same period. • Fluorine is the least reactive of all the shaded

elements.

• Generally, how do atomic masses vary throughout the periodic table of the elements?

• A. They increase from left to right and top to bottom.• B. They increase from left to right and bottom to top.• C. They increase from right to left and top to bottom.• D. They increase from right to left and bottom to top.•  • As you move from left to right across a row of elements in the

periodic table, what happens to the number of protons in a typical atom?

• A It stays the same. • B It increases. • C It decreases. • D It decreases until you reach the middleand then it increases.
