Welcome to the new edition of the Perkin Post. We

have tried to incorporate all aspects of our

community so far this year. There is lots of juicy

information and gossip about new teachers,

competitions, and fantastic recipes for success!

Warm Words from the Editors!

Head Boy and Head Girl!

The head boy and head girl help with things to do with the school. They attend school council, to make a positive impact on the community.

As the school grows, the application process has evolved into giving speeches to each year group so that teachers and the senior leaders can vote for whom they most believe in for supporting and being a role model for their year group.

Congratulations to:

Trisha Thavakumar (8I) and

Liam Hubbard (8W)

Diya Hoque (10I) and

Yew Ern Au (10R)

Zori Nencheva (7W) and

Rufus King-Dabbs (7E)

Ivy French (9E) and

Dhruv Bhatt (9K)

Terrific New Teachers!

This year, there have been so many new teachers coming to the school, we inter-

viewed three new teachers and we will interview three more in each and every

edition of Perkin Post. We hope that you enjoy the first three interviews!

Mrs Lee, RE and History

1. Why did you become a teacher?

I didn’t want to become a teacher but when I got the experi-

ence teaching because a friend thought that I made a good

teacher once I got the experience, I enjoyed it.

2. What do you love about your subject?

I love Re because you get to learn about different cultures and

things about different people. In history I love the debates and

also I love the quirky

stories.

3. What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to sing and I like to spend time with my family.

4. Can you give us an interesting or strange fact about your-

self?

I went to university in Africa for 3 years.

5. Why did you choose William Perkin? What do you love about it?

I choose William Perkin because I heard great things about it and I love the sense of commu-

nity as well as everyone’s enthusiasm when learning.

Mrs Abelard, Language

1. Why did you become a teacher?

This is the only job I found interesting and I have no regrets in

becoming a teacher because it is never boring!

2. What do you love about your subject?

I love that languages is such a wide subject so I don’t just have

to talk about vocabulary I could talk about history, music or

even art.

3. What do you like to do in your free time?

I love to do indoor climbing and surfing during the summer and

also yoga and going to the cinema with friends.

4. Why did you choose William Perkin? What do you love about

it?

I heard many good things about the school and also about how amazing the languages de-

partment was. I also love how, unlike other schools, WP always likes coming up with new

ideas to benefit others.

HOAC—Hillingdon

Outdoor Activity

Centre!

On Friday 16th of September year 7 went to Hillingdon Outdoor Activity Centre. We

were split in to 8 or 4 groups with different teachers, luckily I was with my form tutor Dr

Doyle. We met our guide for the day and we set off to our first group activities…

Our first activity was a game called ‘Sheep and Shepherds’, so the rules were

one person had to be the Shepherd while the others had to be the Sheep. The shep-

herd had to guide his sheep back to the pen. The way it works is the sheep aca peo-

ple have to wear goggles that made them blind and the person who is playing the

shepherd had to verbally guide the sheep to their home.

The next activity was to pull a lot of ropes to gather the treasure that was on the

ground. The rules of this game was that there was one leader and the rest was to

listen to his or her instructions on where and when to move. After that we had lunch

and it was delicious!

After lunch we headed off to our last activity RAFT BUILDING! We had to work in

teams to build a raft of 4 big logs, 4 big barrels and a LOT of tangled rope. I helped

my team build the best raft we could possibly make and we even won the contest!

After 20 years of building it was time to set sail, I didn’t feel like going on the raft but I

did cheer on my team so loud that I very nearly got death! Any way I didn’t go and

neither did my best friend, I had heard about the whole falling in the river/lake thing

and it did not sound like a nice thing I’m telling you. The good thing MY TEAM WON!

After a long day of fun and trouble( just kidding) it was time to go home.

Everyone was tired and ready to call it a day…

THANK YOU WILLIAM PERKIN!!

TED Talks’ Big Questions 1. How could we help stop the gender divide in the

film industry?

2. How can we get enough sleep?

3. How can we organise ourselves so that procrasti-

nation isn’t an option?

4. How can we use our body language to build our

confidence?

At all of the year ahead evenings, parents and their children gathered in the PC to hear

about this year’s upcoming events. The evening talked about a range of things from the

new GCSE grading system to the spirituality of the school. They explained the new

changes to the school to the parents like the new café rules and the new astroturf pitch

(ATP). The lighting team consisting of Anjali and Weronika, Gulika from year 10 doing a

great job keeping the show lit up. All messages were received and there were no diffi-

culties (except Mr Santos’ clicker freezing for a second).

Enterprise Day and Interform On Friday 30th September, William Perkin held our first ever combined

Enterprise and Interform day to raise loads of money!

Throughout the school, various charity events took place: from cakes

sales to auctioning off Future Teachers—where teachers got to purchase

a future teacher to help them for the day!

In the afternoon, music blared as the Year 9 boys stepped out onto

the astroturf pitch, all with the hope on becoming the football champions.

The games were tight and full of tension. Firstly it was Watson vs Einstein

and after battling it out, Watson came out on top with a 4-0 victory. Just

under an hour later all teams had been eliminated except for Watson and

Rutherford. The first half brought no goals but halfway through the second

half, Cardo stormed through the defence and placed the ball into the

bottom left corner. All hope seemed to have been lost for Rutherford but

with luck on his side, Kai-Ern took a throw in that the goalkeeper lost his

grip on, and the ball slowly bounced into the goal. At full time the score

was tied and so the game went to penalties. Eventually, with Rutherford 1

penalty ahead, it was the clash of the two captains. All Kai-Ern had to do

was put the ball past Cardo to win the Interform. With the majority against

him, he smashed the ball into the top of the goal and Rutherford

celebrated wildly.

Looking Towards the Year Ahead

Science cell model cakes This year the science department gave the year 8's a task to make a 3D model of a

specialised cell. On Wednesday 21st September every one brought in their projects and

the results were excellent. Ranging from red velvet blood cells to tiramisu animal cells.

Everyone showed off their creativity through cakes and models. Every cake looked

amazing, the staff couldn’t wait until judging time! The judging was a serious challenge,

resulting in the following winners:

1. Overall (taste/accuracy/creativity) = Saba Emami (8R)

2. Most scientific = Karolina Kozak (8R)

3. Taste = Khadija Aftab (8N)

4. Appearance = Liam Hubbard (8W)

What a caketastical day!

Very excitingly, this year marks the start of our brand new

CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP GROUP here at WP. It is a great op-

portunity to discuss questions you have about the Bible

and why people might choose to follow Jesus. We will

have inspiring speakers coming in to share what it means

to them to be a Christian, we’ll play lots of fun games, eat

yummy snacks, go on trips and make new friends. It is also

a great place to come and talk, and pray if you want to, if

there is anything you want support in.

Grab a lunch card from Mrs. Dixon in advance, pick up

your lunch and head to 3.11 every Thursday lunch time.

Hope to see you there!
