Description and Benefits: Perma-Cast ® Sierra Stain is a penetrating reactive stain that chemically combines with cured concrete to produce perma- nent variegated coloring effects. Perma-Cast ® Sierra Stain is perfect for exterior hardscapes, artificial rock formations, inte- rior floors, walls, statuary and countertops. Because there are so many variables involved in the chemical reaction process i.e. the age, porosity, texture, and color of the concrete sub- strate each application of Perma-Cast ® Sierra Stain produces unique results. Wide color variations, mottling, and uneven- ness of the color are normal and usually desired. If these col- oring effects are not desired, Perma-Cast ® Sierra Stain should not be used. When more uniformly colored concrete is desired for new concrete installations, Uni-Mix ® Integral Colorant or Perma-Cast ® Color Hardener should be specified. Preparation: If your concrete surface is in good condition and has never been treated with integral or surface treatments such as a cur- ing agent, a good cleaning is all that is required before stain- ing. Scrub with detergent or trisodium phosphate and rinse well. DO NOT USE ACID TO CLEAN CONCRETE BEFORE STAINING. Coverage: Coverage will vary widely depending on porosity and texture of the concrete surface, age of concrete, application methods and desired color strength (Number of applications required). Typically a minimum of 300 sq. ft. per gallon will be achieved. It is strongly recommended that a representative test section be produced on the jobsite concrete using the same applica- tion methods as will be used during the actual application. Application: Concrete must be cured a minimum of 21 days before Perma- Cast ® Sierra Stain may be used. Before use or handling of Perma-Cast ® Sierra Stain: Read and follow all safety information on the label and the Material Safety Data Sheet. Protect surrounding areas. In a plastic bucket, DO NOT USE METAL CONTAINER, combine one part stain with one part water. Mix well. Stain should be applied using an acid resistant sprayer. The Perma- Cast ® Sierra Stain solution should fizz when applied. If it does not, additional cleaning is needed or the concrete is too old and does not contain enough reactive materials to stain. Maintain a wet edge at all times. Keep the saturation consis- tent throughout application. If liquid is splashed, dripped or puddled, these areas will produce darker colored effects. Apply solution to vertical surfaces the same way, starting at the bot- tom and working upward. Avoid excessive rundown of materi- al as this will produce darker streaks. In tight areas where a sprayer is not practical, an acid resistant, natural fiber brush may be used. When using a brush to apply stain, use a ran- dom circular scrubbing motion to avoid the appearance of brush strokes. The reaction of the Perma-Cast ® Sierra Stain with the concrete will produce a powdery residue, which must be removed. After the initial application of Perma-Cast ® Sierra Stain has dried for a minimum of 4 hours, you can test to see if sufficient color has been achieved by scrubbing and rinsing the residue off of a small section. The color of the rinsed section when wet is indicative of the final sealed stain color. If the color is not sufficient, another application of stain solution should be applied. If the color is sufficient, remove all residue by wet scrubbing with water and a stiff brush. DO NOT USE SOAP. Rinse until the water is completely clean. Since it may stain adjacent areas or harm plants, collect runoff by wet-vacuuming or absorbing with an inert material. Dispose of all stain residue runoff liquid and absorbent mate- rials used during application in accordance with local, state and federal regulations. Sealing: After stained and rinsed concrete has dried thoroughly, apply Clear-Guard™ Cure and Seal. If area is subjected to wetting, a non-slip additive must be used with the Clear Guard™.
