I actually enjoyed the physical activity of clearing the snow away, but after a couple of hours of shoveling, I began to like it less. On Sunday morning, I rolled out of bed early, confident that I could either drive or walk to church. What I hadn’t planned on were the snowdrifts now blocking access to the road. It was then that I noticed that my neighbor was coming my direction with a snow blower. I had heard of one of those things, but having grown up in East Tennessee, I had never seen one. In fact, ask a man from Tennessee if he owns a snow blower, he’ll tell you that he doesn’t need a snow blower; he married one! In less than ten minutes, my car was freed from the snowdrift by the snow blower, and I was able to drive to church, instead of walking. I actually had someone volunteer to come drive me, but I really wanted to be able to get out in my own car. I just needed a little help. One of the hardest things for me to do is to admit that I need help. I think I should be able to do everything on my own. I’m not sure where that independent streak comes from, but my psychologist friends tell me that it’s either my Mother or Father’s fault. On that day, I accepted help. It was especially gratifying for me to look out across my congregation that Sunday morning to see the guy who rescued me, plus the guy who was standing by to help if I needed him. We need to acknowledge the obvious: we need each other. Any questions? What we do here matters.

From My Perspective

I stood in the parsonage driveway, surveying just how much snow there was to be shoveled. It looked like a task I could never finish, but shovel by shovel, I began to make a path from the driveway to the road. I actually enjoyed the physical activity of clearing the snow away, but after a couple of hours of shoveling, I began to like it less. The next morning when I got out of bed, I really wasn’t enjoying it. My back, hips, shoulders, and knees were all sending messages to the brain that I had overdone it.

On Sunday morning, I rolled out of bed early, confident that I could either drive or walk to church. What I hadn’t planned on were the snowdrifts now blocking access to the road. Between the wind and the snow plows, the piles of snow now cut me off from getting my car out of the driveway. It also seemed a bit too cold to walk to church, so I had no choice but to go get the shovel and start shoveling.

Attention Musicians We are looking for someone who would be willing to devote 15 minutes to lead our younger children in music at the beginning of Sunday School. If you are interested, please see Bill Lacy.

Help Our Schools There are many programs that help our local schools resulting in cash donations or supplies. Please consider collecting the following and passing it to any Radford school (or to Suzanne Saunders): Box Tops for Education, Campbell's Soup Labels, Tyson A+ labels, and Coke codes (found on caps and inside boxed sodas). Start tearing these items off and pass them along when you are ready. Thanks for enhancing our education system!

Do you want an electronic newsletter? Did you know you can get the newsletter e-mailed to you? If you’d prefer to get on the e-mail list rather than have a physical copy mailed to you twice a month, you can sign up by visiting our website, cumcradford.org and clicking the “Sign up here!” button on the bottom right. Call the Church Office with questions!

New Women’s Book Study

Our newest Sunday school class, LIFE (Living In Faith Everyday), will be starting a new women's study using the book Letters to my Daughter by Barbara Rainey, on Sunday, April 3rd. Anyone interested in joining the group for this study, please call the Church Office so we can order enough books.
