    One afternoon Whistlercame in H.M. Bateman, 1915.

    The Man WhoH. M. Bateman painted many pictures of Malta and Gozo, he was famous for TheMan Who series of cartoons, featuring comically exaggerated reactions tominor and usually upper-class social gaffes, such as The Man Who Lit His CigarBefore the Royal Toast.In later life he carried on an increasingly acrimonious battle with the U.K. Inland

    Revenue. His final years were spent on the island of Gozo and he is buried at Ta'Braxia cemetery in Malta. In 2012 Heritage Malta held an exhibition of his works.
