WelcomeWelcome to a wealth of opportunity in adult learning .

We are pleased to be offering another packed brochure of adult and community learning courses and activities, providing a wide range of choice throughout the borough .

The council takes pride in supporting residents and are committed to maintaining low fees on courses and support learning opportunities that do not enjoy financial support from central government, but which are valued by our residents .

During a recent Ofsted Inspection, Hillingdon Adult and Community Learning was graded as good overall with some outstanding features . Ofsted commented that, ‘A strong feature of the service is the safe and welcoming atmosphere and high quality accommodation .’

They mentioned that ‘Learners across all subject areas make good progress, gain confidence and develop personal, employment and social skills .’

Our brochure this year is divided into two sections:•PersonalandDevelopmentalLearning•LearningforSkillsandEmployment

The Personal and Developmental Learning section explores both formal and informal courses in order to enrich lives, communities and the economy .

TheLearningforSkillsandEmploymentsectionofthebrochurehas details on a range of courses that lead to a national qualification and can get you started in your career and see you through to fully-qualified status .

Ouraim, inpartnershipwiththeSkillsFundingAgencyandYPLA,is to give you an opportunity to undertake a high quality course of study, be it for your own personal pleasure, to gain a vocational qualification, or to enhance your employment opportunities .

I wish everyone well with their chosen course of study .

Cllr David SimmondsCabinetMemberforEducation&Children’sServices

Guidance on Modern Foreign Language LevelsThe programme has four levels of courses on offer (although not all levels are available in every language) . The levels are Breakthrough, Preliminary, Intermediate and Advanced and they allow us to match course content to a national framework called ‘The Languages Ladder’ . Conversation and Cultural Awareness classes are available in some languages for speakers approaching fluency and focus on developing speaking and listening skills at a more advanced level .

The statements below give information about the course at each level . Read the descriptions to identify the likely level that you think might be for you . Remember, these tell you about some of the things that you will be able to do when you have finished the course NOT what you need to be able to do before joining .
