Proposal of regular personal arts practiceTRANSCRIPT
PERSONAL ARTS PRACTICE 3
To have a disciplined and rigorous arts practice.
~
To sell work in a variety of galleries and art spaces - The River Mud Series of Ceramics,
The River Diaries Paintings, sketches and prints.
~
To work doing what I love in a creative space that is good for my mental health.
~
To make art that brings joy to others as well as myself in the process of making.
~
PERSONAL ARTS PRACTICE 4
the vision
... to create artworks from my heart ... unemcumbered by rational thought
PERSONAL ARTS PRACTICE 5
PERSONALLYTo keep myself sane. To create is to be at peace with myself. Meditative.
~
if I was to work as a fulltime artist, this is how I would do it...Building a disciplined arts practice for my own mental health, I work three days a week on my own artworks in painting, printmaking and ceramics. Working in my studio at Mount Kuring-gai on paintings, at home or at the Central Coast Potters Society for ceramics and at Wallarobba for
printmaking utilising their free Friday workshop.
Initially I would focus on entering competitions and awards to gain exposure. I would sell at Platform 72 and HANG regularly to gain a name and focus on developing a style that each gallery represents.
Currently a ceramic range and prints or paintings.
I would have to work part time two days a week to bring in money for food. My best option here is to work as a teacher in art or ceramics. This would match up with my arts practice and give me
school holidays off with my children.
The vision is to work as an artist and make a living from selling my work through galleries.
I need to focus on one modality at a time and give it my full attention. So, I will have to work out a programme of focus that will span the year. Or perhaps I just see how I feel?
On weekends I can sketch and research what I want to paint and print.

obligationsTo myself. An arts practice is integral to myself as a person to balance work. As a meditative process
that gets me out of my head it is vital for a healthy mind that can focus on a work life balance.
Not simply an individual practice but also a teaching practice to pass on the joy of creating and connect with others in a teaching environment. To create a space for creative endeavour.
opportunitiesTo travel to remote communities and develop relationships with them over time through programmes and projects co-ordinated monthly. Devise a programme of projects and seek out funding and support for ongoing programmes that increase the health of remote and disadvantaged communities. Connect with galleries and cross cultural connections between regional and city areas to increase knowledge of the other and foster tolerance and understanding to enable communities to work in partnership with each other.
Utilise new technologies and techniques in digital creation of art and incorporate them in traditional art to create artworks that are new and diverse. Shock of the new visually and confronting in subject matter.

PERSONAL ARTS PRACTICE 11
I would supplement my physically isolating arts practice with working with people in the community. I would like to work with other artists on an annual community art project once I was established in my own work practice. I am currently involved in the PEAT ISLAND PROJECT locally and I would like to develop a SCULPTURE ON THE RIVER that grows from a sculpture walk annually on Dangar Island to encompass Brooklyn, Kangeroo Point, Mooney Mooney and the river communities of Cogra Bay, Wobby etc.
~
Use my artistic and creative skills to engage people and facilitate connection. To celebrate culture and community both in individual identity and group identity and then connect these to other communities Be the facilitator connecting people up and creating the space for them to communicate, create and be nurtured in their creativity. Both individually and connecting community to community. This overlaps with my artist in residence programme and work in other communities. It would be nice to link up with other river communities around Australia and develop a NATIONAL RIVER COMMUNITIES CREATIVITY PROJECT.

Networks I need to develop are with local businesses. But first I need to focus on the work and a significant quantity and quality of work in particular product
ranges - my River Mud Series of ceramics and my River Diaries paintings and drawings.
PERSONAL ARTS PRACTICE 14
Other local networks to explore include the Brooklyn Spring Fair (or other public events, functions, exhibitions, performances, conferences, community activities, festivals, etc)
Enter all local competitons and many others. Get a list together of all the competitions and awards out there and enter them all.
Be visible in the community through regular markets, attend conferences relevant to my work, exhibition openings, awards nights and more. Be a visible presence online and market my work
in as many ways as I can through other sites. Use artshub website and others.
Teaching is another way of networking and getting my own personal work out there.
TAFE is another good networking institution.
PERSONAL ARTS PRACTICE 16
Arts Practice. All this work on the river is influencing my arts practice and creating material that can be used as reference for my work. Through networking my photography and connections with local businesses, galleries, and more I am able to find places to place my artwork for sale. As the arts practice is for my mental health then I don’t feel pressured to create to earn but can be self indulgent. All the above avenues could be used for this business as well however, if I did focus on photography and this is a secondary income stream I would possibly only advertise this through word of mouth and placement in local businesses.
My main focus and what I would be known as is a PHOTOGRAPHER.
Create and leave an artistic booklet of my work at local galleries.
Photographing at PLATFORM 72 can be used as a marketing tool - pass people onto my website with a card at openings and a book that is kept at the gallery. Negotiate this with Juliet. This one needs to be edgy and up to date. Different and new but showcasing my intimate portraits and essence of relationships in photography, another book of painitings, one of prints and drawings and one for ceramics.. More
perforamance. Ability to target functions, performances and more unusual gatherings
Database of clients/artists/collaborators etc..
Create tumblr blog, flyers, social media.
CREATE TWO NEW TWITTER ACCOUNTS One for photography and one for my arts practice.
Ensure I only follow relevant people for each. My photography is contained in three-fishes , my arts affili-ated to my current melanderson website adjusted to remove the photography componant.
