2Software KeyboardYou can use the Software Keyboard. By using the Software Keyboard, you can change the size of the Software Keyboard, and can use the numeric keypad.

1 Click [start] – [All Programs] – [Panasonic] – [Software Keyboard].

2 Touch the software keyboard.To use shortcut key Example : Ctrl + C Press Ctrl (turns blue) and then press C.If you added the input language, the language bar (e.g. ) is displayed on the notification area. To select the keyboard language, use the language bar on the notification area. If the keyboard language does not change, click the title bar of the software keyboard and then click on the application.

A. Software keyboard menu ( page 3)B. Moves the software keyboard to a corner of the screen.C. One tap : Works as shortcut key (Ctrl + C etc.).

Two taps : Works as the (Windows) key. D. Works as a right-click. (Same function as the key)E. Switches between QWERTY keyboard and numeric keypad.F. Works as “Ctrl+Alt+Del”.

NOTE

You cannot use the software keyboard when the [Command Prompt] screen is set to “Full Screen”.You can set a different language to each application (⇒ Windows help), and the keyboard layout switches according to the application.Depending in the language, some keys are displayed in orange. You can use them to input characters such as ë and ö.

1 Click (A).

2 Add a check mark to the function you want to use.[Auto Move]The software keyboard moves automatically to avoid overlapping the selected window.[Auto Restore]The software keyboard minimized on the notification area will be restored when you change the input mode. This may not work on some applications.[Always On Top]The software keyboard appears on the top.[Transparent]The software keyboard appears semi-transparent.[Big Size]/[Medium Size]/[Small Size]Select the size of the software keyboard.[Ten key (Big)]/[Ten key (Medium)]/[Ten key (Small)]Select the size of the numeric keypad.

NOTE

You can change the currency symbol (B) of the numeric keypad.Click [start] - [Control Panel] - [Date, Time, Language and Regional Options] - [Regional and Language Options] - [Regional Options] - [Customize] - [Currency] - [Currency symbol].After changing the currency symbol, click (A), and then change the size of the numeric keypad so that the selected currency symbol is shown.You can input the unit by using (C).

4Zoom FunctionBy zooming in the screen, small characters or icons become easy to see.You can operate the computer (e.g. click) with the zoomed screen.

NOTE

The Zoom function is not available in the following conditions.• When selecting a larger display resolution than the actual display resolution in the display setting• On the logon screen during startup of Windows or in the log off conditionYou cannot zoom the items below.• Hot key icon displayed when Fn key is pressedMotion pictures may not be zoomed in.You can use the Zoom function on the external display only in the mirroring mode.When you set the extended desktop mode;• Only the primary device is enlarged.• The pointer may remains in the enlarged primary device even if you try to move it to the secondary device.• You can move the pointer to the secondary device only when you select [Click on Screen Edges] mode. However,

the pointer does not appear in the secondary device if you use the Zoom Cursor.• If the external display is set to the primary device, you cannot enlarge the display.Some functions set in [Mouse Property] may not work properly when an entire screen is enlarged (e.g., [Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key] function).Some of the pointer’s functions, such as Display pointer trails or Hide pointer while typing, may not work.There may be two pointers displayed during enlarged display depending on an application software (e.g.,[Paint]).

1 Put the cursor (A) on the position you want to zoom in.

2 Press the zoom button (B). : Zoom in : Zoom out (to the original size)

Each time you press the button, zoom ratio changes. You can zoom between 100% and 500%.

You can also click icon on the notification area to display Zoom menu and select the zoom ratio.

To zoom out to the original sizeThere are 2 ways.

Press the zoom button to [ ] direction to return to the original screen.Click icon on the notification area to display Zoom menu and click [100% Zoom].

NOTE

The Zoom ratio returns to 100% in the following conditions even while the screen is zoomed.• When you switch the log in user• When the computer resumes from Standby/Hibernation• In the log off condition• When you press Ctrl + Alt + Fn + (Del)*1[Full Screen Zoom Setup] screen and [About Full Screen Zoom] screen appear only when you set the zoom ratio 100%.If Zoom menu, [Full Screen Zoom Setup] screen or [About Full Screen Zoom] screen is displayed, you cannot enlarge the screen from the zoom ratio 100% by pressing the zoom button ( ).

*1 For Numeric keyboard model : Fn + (Ctrl+Alt+Del)

To select the zoom mode1 Click icon on the notification area.

Zoom menu appears.

2 Click [Setting].[Full Screen Zoom Setup] screen appears.

3 You can make the following settings.[Navigation]

[Click and Drag]• If you select this mode, the cursor changes to . And [Switch to Input

Mode] button is displayed on upper right corner of the screen.• The display area can be moved by dragging it with the cursor. You

cannot input data while dragging.• If you select Click and Drag Mode, you cannot operate the icon or the window

on the zoom desktop. To enable these operations, select Input Mode.• If you want to operate the icon or the window on the zoom desktop, click [Switch to Input Mode]. However, you

cannot move the display area in Input Mode. To return Click and Drag Mode, press the zoom button ( or ).[Click on Screen Edges]• The display area is moved by holding one side of touchscreen.[Disable Navigation]• The display area is not moved.

[Zoom Position]You can select zoom to [Cursor Position], [Upper Left Corner] or [Lower Right Corner].

4 Click [OK].

NOTE

You can also make the following settings in [Full Screen Zoom Setup] screen.

Set Zoom StepYou can select intervals of zoom step.

Lower Screen Refresh RateThe check mark is added as a factory default.With the check mark added, the screen refresh interval becomes longer when you do not operate the computer a certain length of time in the zoomed condition.If the check mark is removed, the computer may not enter standby or hibernation in the zoomed condition.

Hot Key Setting ( page 7)

To use the Zoom Cursor, add a check mark for [Use Zoom Cursor] by following procedure below. The cursor changes to while using the Zoom function. will also be displayed when it is on the frame of Windows.

1 Click icon on the notification area.Zoom menu appears.

2 Click [Use Zoom Cursor] to add a check mark.

NOTE

[Use Zoom Cursor], [About Full Screen Zoom] and [Exit Full Screen Zoom] appear only in the following conditions.• The zoom ratio is 100% (100% Zoom).When using application software displaying a unique cursor (i.e. Paint), note the following restrictions.• The cursor unique for the application software is not enlarged. • The cursor unique for the application software may not be displayed at the right position. In this case, use Zoom Cursor.You cannot turn on/off Zoom Cursor during enlarged display.

Always Foremost modeYou can display the notification area in its original size for easy operations even in the zoomed screen.

A Click icon on the notification area to display Zoom menu.B Click and add a check mark for [Always Foremost on the Screen]. (In the default setting,

check mark is added.)

Hot Key SettingYou can make the zoom setting by key combinations.

A Click icon on the notification area to display Zoom menu.B Click [Setting].C Click the text box (A) and press the key you prefer.

You can use only Ctrl or (Shift)*2 key for combinations.• To combine with Ctrl or (Shift)*2 key, click the text box and

press together with any key simultaneously. (e.g., Ctrl + Z, etc.)

• You cannot use Alt key as the hot key. • Keys that can be combined as a hot key are up to two.• Selectable items

[Click and Drag Mode]: You can assign the Click and Drag function. [Click on Screen Edges Mode]: You can assign the Click on Screen Edges function. [Disable Navigation]: You can assign the Disable Navigation function. [Zoom Up Area Always Foremost Side On]: Set Always Foremost mode to ON. [Zoom Up Area Always Foremost Side Off]: Set Always Foremost mode to OFF.

8Camera<Only for model with Camera>Panasonic Camera Utility is installed in place of AMCap for TOUGHBOOK, application software for taking pictures and recording video.

CAUTION.

Do not look directly at the camera light.

Using the Camera1 Hold both sides of the computer to aim the camera.

NOTE

When the computer is moved from hot and humid environments to cold environments, dew condensation may form mist inside the lens. This is not a malfunction. Wait until the lens dry.

Start up the Panasonic Camera Utility to take pictures and videos.

1 Click [start] - [All Programs] - [Panasonic] - [Panasonic Camera Utility].

NOTE

If you use this utility and other multi-media software at the same time, an error may occur. Close all multi-media software including this utility and restart this utility.If an error message appears and nothing is displayed, restart this utility.Two or more users cannot use this utility with Windows Fast User Switching function.When the computer has resumed from standby or hibernation, an error may appear and the connection with the cam-era device may be lost. If this occurs, restart this utility.

Taking Pictures

Switching the light on and offTo switch the camera light on and off.

1 Click or click [Control] - [Camera Light], then click [ON] or [OFF].

When the camera light is on, the icon changes to .You can assign the Light function to an application button. ( page 16 “Assigning the Light/Zoom In/Take Photo Functions to an Application Button”)The light turns off automatically after a certain period of time. Click [Control] - [Camera Light] - [Settings] to set your lighting duration preferences.To maximize battery and LED life, it is not recommended to keep the light on for a long period of time.

Zoom InTo enlarge or reduce the camera image.

1 Click or click [Control] - [Zoom] and select [x 1.0], [x 1.5], [x 2.0], [x 2.5], or [x 3.0].You can assign the Zoom In function to an application button. ( page 16 “Assigning the Light/Zoom In/Take Photo Functions to an Application Button”)

Each time you click the zoom magnification goes up in the order of [x 1.0], [x 1.5], [x 2.0], [x 2.5], [x 3.0].

To return to [x 1.0], click when the zoom is [x 3.0].You can zoom in/out by dragging the screen up-and-down.

NOTE

Enlarging the screen by using the zoom button on the left of the LCD ( page 4) will not enlarge the camera’s image.

Take PhotoYou can record the camera image as a picture.

1 Adjust the direction of camera, zoom (See above), picture quality ( page 12), etc..

2 Click or click [Photos] - [Take photo].

While taking photos, the icon changes to indicating the photo is being captured.You can assign the Take Photo function to an application button. ( page 16 “Assigning the Light/Zoom In/Take Photo Functions to an Application Button”)

NOTE

You can view pictures by clicking or through Windows Explorer (default location is my pictures folder).When the distance between the camera and subject is too close, the image may be out of focus.When you take photos while the light is on, the light-up duration is reset to the time setting for the “Auto Off Setting” ( page 10).

Burst ShootingYou can take pictures in fixed intervals.

1 Click or click [Photos] - [Start Burst Shooting].

During Burst shooting, the icon changes to

NOTE

During Burst shooting, naming, saving or canceling photos is not available. The default name for saving photos is the date and time the picture was taken.

Changing the Settings for Taking Pictures

1 Click [Photos] - [Settings].

2 Change to preferred settings and click [OK].

When the following boxes are checked,

• Box (A) only: Select to save or cancel, after the photo is taken

Save ( ) and delete icons ( ) will appear after the photo is taken. Photo will be saved using default name (date/time).

• Box (B) only: Name the taken photo Photo can be named (and saved) using the windows File Name box that appears after photo is taken. Photo can be deleted by selecting “cancel”.

• Boxes (A) and (B): Select to save or cancel, after the photo is taken & Name the taken photo

Save ( ) and delete icons ( ) will appear after the photo is taken. Photo can be named after save icon ( ) is selected using the windows File Name box.

NOTE

At (C), if you specify an externally connected storage device as the save destination, the camera software may operate slowly. In this case, specify the flash memory as the save destination.High-quality pictures can be obtained by checking (D). Also, regardless of the display screen size, you can take pictures with the selected resolution.• When this feature is enabled, photos may take more time to load.• When this feature is disabled, photos will be saved with the resolution selected for the [Video Format] ( page 15).

Recording Video

1 Click or click [Video] - [Start Recording].

While recording, the icon changes to .

2 Click or click [Video] - [Stop Recording].

NOTE

You cannot zoom or display the date/time stamp while recording.When the distance between the camera and subject is too close, the image may be out of focus.If you specify an externally connected storage device as the save destination, the camera software may operate slowly. In this case, specify the flash memory as the save destination.The file is saved with the resolution set for [Video Format] ( page 15).Only video is recorded. To record audio, please attach an external microphone.If you rotate the display, pictures may not be displayed correctly. Do not rotate the display while recording.

Changing the Settings for Recording Video

1 Click [Video] - [Settings].

2 Change to preferred settings and click [OK].When the following boxes are checked,

• Box (A) only: Select to save or cancel, after the video is recorded

Save ( ) and delete icons ( ) will appear after the video is taken. Video will be saved using default name (date/time).

• Box (B) only: Name the recorded video Video can be named (and saved) using the windows File Name box that appears after stopping the video. Video can be deleted by selecting “cancel”.

• Boxes (A) and (B): Select to save or cancel, after the video is recorded & Name the recorded video

Save ( ) and delete icons ( ) will appear after the video is taken. Video can be named after save icon ( ) is selected using the windows File Name box.

Setting AudioSet your sound preferences on the [Audio Control] screen.

1 Click [Settings] - [Audio Control].

NOTE

To set sound preference, please attach an external microphone.Some items cannot be set depending on the device.

Setting Image QualitySet your image quality preferences on the [Image Control] screen.

1 Click [Settings] - [Image Control].

Setting the Compressed Data Format/Resolution for the Image1 Click [Settings] - [Video Format].

[Color Space / Compression] Set the compressed data format for the image.

[Output Size] Set the image resolution.

NOTE

Make sure the image resolution is within the range of the display resolution of this computer (Refer to “Specifications - Display Method” in OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS).If you set [Output Size], the [Frame Rate] is automatically determined.The setting items depend on the device, some items cannot be selected.

Assigning the Light/Zoom In/Take Photo Functions to an Application ButtonYou can assign the Light/Zoom In/Take Photo functions to the application buttons (A).

1 Click on the notification area.

2 Select [Setup] menu to open the Hardware Button Settings window.

3 Input the following in any one of [Button 1] to [Button 4] (B).

Input the following in any one of buttons.<When assigning the “Switch the light on and off” function> ( page 10)c:\program files\panasonic\lightsw\lightsw.exe

<When assigning the “Zoom in” function> ( page 11)c:\program files\panasonic\panasonic camera utility\pcam.exe /zoom_in

4 Click [OK].

NOTE

When the Panasonic Camera Utility is not running, and if you press the buttons to which the “Zoom in” function, “Take photo” function, etc. are assigned, the Panasonic Camera Utility will be activated. Press the button again to use the function assigned.If you operate the Utility after assigning the “Take photo” function, the same operation will be performed as the one when the check marks both for [Select to save or cancel, after the photo is taken] and [Name the taken photo] are not added in “Changing the Settings for Taking Pictures” ( page 12).If you operate the Utility after assigning the “Take photo” function by specifying the file name, the same operation will be performed as the one when the check mark for (A) is added and check mark for (B) is not added in “Changing the Settings for Taking Pictures” ( page 12).

17Barcode Configuration UtilityUsing the Barcode Configuration Utility, you can create and perform the configuration files to set up the settings for Barcode module and Barcode Key Emulator. By using with the 1D/2D Barcode Setting Utility, you can operate the Barcode Configuration Utility.

1 Click [start] - [All Programs] - [Panasonic] - [Barcode Configuration Utility].

2 Select barcode module type, and then click [OK].If you use 1D Barcode Reader, select [1D Barcode Reader].If you use 2D Barcode Reader, select [2D Barcode Reader].

[Barcode Configuration Utility] screen appears.

3 Perform operations from “Applying the settings” ( page 18) to “Barcode Software Tool” ( page 21).

4 When the Configuration is completed, click . At the confirmation message, select [Yes].

Toolbar MenuThe Barcode Configuration Utility has the menus listed below to create and perform the configuration files.

NOTE

If an error message appears and nothing is displayed, restart this utility.Do not use this utility with Windows Fast User Switching function.When the computer has resumed from standby or hibernation, an error may appear and the connection with this utility may be lost. If this occurs, restart this utility.

Using Barcode Configuration Utility

File New Create a new configuration file.Open Open an existing configuration file.Save Save changed information in a configuration file.Save as Name and save a configuration file.Exit Exit the Barcode Configuration Utility.

Tools Apply Configuration Boots the 1D/2D Barcode Setting Utility to apply the information in the configuration file to Barcode module and Barcode Key Emulator.

Help About Barcode Configuration Tool Display the version information.

To apply the settings for the Barcode Configuration Utility, follow the steps below.

1 Click [File]-[Save as] to create a configuration file (*.ini).Name the configuration file (*.ini).

2 To reflect the setting contents to the Barcode module, click [Tools]-[Apply Configuration].

3 Restart the computer.NOTE

Alternatively you can reflect the setting contents to the Barcode module in the following procedures.A Create and save the configuration file in Barcode Configuration Utility.B Apply the configuration file in the following procedures.

<For model with 1D Barcode Reader>Input [c:\Program Files\Panasonic\bcr1d_set\bcr1d_set.exe x:\xxxxxxxx\xxxxxxxx.ini*1] in [start] - [Run] and click [OK].<For model with 2D Barcode Reader>Input [c:\Program Files\Panasonic\bcr2d_set\bcr2d_set.exe x:\xxxxxxxx\xxxxxxxx.ini*1] in [start] - [Run] and click [OK].

C Restart the computer.*1 Drive name, folder name and file name for configuration file.After applying, the settings occur either in the Barcode module or the Barcode Key Emulator. You do not need to oper-ate the 1D/2D Barcode Setting Utility every time when you restart the computer.

1 Click [Data Configuration].2 Make configuration for the following settings.

Add Prefix: A character string can be added before the barcode information.

You can add a control character, such as <ACK>, by clicking the button.<For 1D Barcode Reader Only>Only one character can be assigned to the prefix.

Add Suffix: A character string can be added after the barcode information.

You can add a control character, such as <ACK>, by clicking the button.You can add a <TAB> to the character string in the input field by clicking [Add Tab Key].You can add a <CR> code to the character string in the input field by clicking [Add Enter Key].<For 1D Barcode Reader Only>Only two characters can be assigned to the suffix.

Enable AIM Symbology:You can add the character string to identify the barcode type (Symbology) to the data from the barcode module.

Rules: You can set the rule for how to process character strings when reading the barcode data.There can only be one action per scenario.A Select [Scenario].B Select [True] in the [Active] column to enable the scenario.C Specify the applicable barcode in the following method if necessary.

[Symbology]: Apply the Scenario to the selected barcode type only. To enable this function, add the check mark for [Enable AIM Symbology].

[Character Length]: Apply the Scenario to the barcode with the specified length only.[Mask]: Apply the Scenario to the barcode including the specified

character string only.D Click [Add Action].E Click and select an action.F Change to preferred settings and click [Add].

The rules appear in the chart with the necessary information for the action. If the necessary information is not entered correctly, an error message will occur and the action will not be placed in the chart.

NOTEIf the input column is left blank, or the number of characters entered exceeds the maximum limit in the [Add Action] setting, an error message appears. In this case, click [OK] to close the menu and make the setting again. Or, click [Cancel] and close the [Add Action] screen.To change the Action already registered, delete Action for [Remove Action] and then register again for [Add Action].

Various settings can be made for each barcode type that can be read.

1D/2D Customization1 Click [Symbology Configuration].

2 Click to select barcode type.

3 Change to preferred settings.

NOTE

For some items, the setting cannot be changed.

Grid ControlsYou can select options for the symbology and value.

NOTE

[Disable 2D Symbologies] is displayed only for 2D Barcode Reader.

Emulator Prefix1 Click [Barcode Software Tool].

2 Click [Configure] on the right of [Emulator Prefix].The subsequent setting procedure is the same as the one for [Barcode Reader Prefix] in [Data Configuration] ( page 19). Note: There isn’t a limitation of number of characters such as with 1D Barcode Reader.

Emulator Suffix1 Click [Barcode Software Tool].

2 Click [Configure] on the right of [Emulator Suffix].The subsequent setting procedure is the same as the one for [Barcode Reader Suffix] in [Data Configuration] ( page 19). Note: There isn’t a limitation of number of characters such as with the 1D Barcode Reader.

Allow un-readable charactersThis allows the user to restrict or allow all ASCII characters.When the check mark is checked, all ASCII values (except HEX 00) are part of the barcode scanned data. If you remove the check mark from (A), all ASCII characters of a HEX value of 1F or less are removed from the barcode scanned data.

Show AIMIf you add a check mark for (B), AIM Identification is showed at the beginning of the scanned barcode data. This can only be enabled if [AIM Symbology] is enabled in the [Data Configuration] ( page 19).

Initial ConnectionYou can select the initial connection method for the Barcode Emulation Tool.

Enable AudioThis options enables or disables the beep sound for a successful barcode scan. If you prefer to disable the sound, remove the check mark from (C).

Menu OptionsThis allows for the option to be selectable in the Barcode Emulation Tool menu.If you add a check mark for (D), the option is not able to be selected in the menu.

The Barcode Emulation Tool menu is displayed when you click (for model with 1D Barcode Reader) / (for model with 2D Barcode Reader) icon on the notification area.

NOTE

Default Hardware InformationThis shows the default settings of your barcode module. Even if you change the settings, this information will not show these changes.

23Icon Enlarger

You can enlarge the screen items such as characters, icons, title bars and cursor.

CAUTION

“Icon Enlarger” will not start up if the display resolution is set lower than 800 x 600 dots.

NOTE

A part of the enlarged menu or some screen items may be hidden. In this case, overlay the cursor to display pop-ups, scroll the screen, or use other functions to display the hidden items. If these items are still hidden, return to Normal Size and use “Zoom Function” ( page 4).The Icon Enlarger setting affects the website characters displayed by Internet Explorer and the e-mail characters in Outlook Express. Some characters of website and e-mail may not be enlarged.

PreparationClose all of the applications before using “Icon Enlarger”.

1 Click [start] - [All Programs] - [Panasonic] - [Icon Enlarger].

2 Select the size.

3 Click [OK].The screen will be displayed in the selected size.
