addressing student Officers.
NO 105 JCSC commenced on 6th Aug 2017. The
day started with the welcome speech by Officer
Commanding CSTI, Air Commodore Shaharul Huda, psc.
He started his speech by welcoming everyone in CSTI. He
apprises that, the aim of the course is to stimulate
personal growth and improve effectiveness of the
participants by exposing them to fundamental knowledge
of command and staff works being followed in the armed
forces. He also apprises, the student officers are expected
to acquire adequate working knowledge of staff duties,
procedure and to perform command, staff and
instructional duties effectively at various levels in the air
force. Later on, the Chief Instructor, Wg Cdr Shah Kawsar
Ahmed Chy, psc briefed the student officers about the
detailed curriculum of the course. The day ended with
administrative activities for the course. There were total 23
student officers from different branches participating in
105 JCSC including two foreign officers (one from Sri-
Lanka, another one from India).

The dining in night of NO 105 JCSC was held on 9th
August 2017. The venue for the programme was BAF
Officers Mess, BSR. All the student officers including Chief
Instructor and other directing staffs assembled in the
officers mess ante room within 1945 hours. Chief Guest for
the programme Air Commodre Shaharul Huda, psc arrived
at the mess at around 2000 hours. Chief instructor,
Adjutant CSTI and senior most student officer of the course
Sqn Ldr Moin received the chief guest and ushered him up
to the venue. Chief Guest met with everyone and shared
some of his memorable experiences with the student
officers. After the formal dinner there was a photography
session in front of the mess and thus the dining in night
came to an end.

On 11 Sep 17, Students of 105 JCSC conducted a seminar at CSTI premises. Air Cdre M Mafidur Rahman,
ndu, afwc, psc, AOC, BAF BBD attended the seminar as Key Note speaker and Wg Cdr Irfanur Rahman, psc
moderated the session. Topic of the seminar was “The role of air power in countering emerging security
threats”. The students were divided into two syndicates: Syndicate A and Syndicate B. Syndicate A presented
on the topic with an aim to analyze and focus on assessment in view of re-structuring air force in countering
emerging security threats. Syndicate B presented with an aim to analyze the doctrinal challenge due to change
of warfare from conventional to unconventional.

Chief of Air Staff, Bangladesh Air Force inaugurated a
Book Fair at CSTI premises. Total 05(Five) renowned
book seller of Dhaka participated in this book fair.
There was a book donation corner where senior
officers and student officers of 105 JC&SC donated
books for CSTI library.
The book fair was open on that day from 1530-1800
hrs for all officers and their family in Dhaka area. It
may be mentioned that the book fair was arranged by
CSTI under able guidance and supervision of Air
Commodore Md Shaharul Huda, psc Officer
Commanding CSTI, BAF. The book fair was held first
time ever in BAF.

No 105 JCSC student Offr’s of Syndicate-‘A’ taking

Both the syndicates evaluated and highlighted present day emerging threats and considered the role of air
power to counter those. Basing the on evolution of air power from WW I to present day a lot of thoughts were
incorporated by both the syndicates. Syndicate A recommended on having long-range bomber, Layered ISR
on Counter terrorism Operations, acquiring Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV), Fortifying space and
cyberspace etc. While Syndicated B recommended that doctrinal changes are not required, however change
of platform need to considered. Air power, a traditionally offensive military instrument, is increasingly
employed for Operations Other Than War (OOTW) such as counter-terrorism operations. Change of role
along with change of platform is recommended.

The Junior Command and Staff Course stimulate
personal growth and improve the effectiveness of the
student officers. Local and outstation visits form an
integral part for the course and are aimed at giving a
varied exposure to the student officers. A visit to the
SK+F Bangladesh Limited was aimed at familiarization
with the vision, establishment and functions of SK+F. On
24 Aug 17, the student offr’s has visited at SK+F
Bangladesh Limited, which is a world-renowned
multinational pharmaceutical company is one of the
leading and fastest growing business conglomerates in
Bangladesh. The visit provided the students with an
opportunity to learn practically through interaction,
working methods and employment practices. The visit
provided an excellent opportunity to interact with civil
professionals and to know about them to work together in
terms of necessity.
As a continuation of development and up gradation of BAF, software named HORIZON has started its
journey in BAF. Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar, BBP, ndc, acsc has inaugurated an
application software- HORIZON on 07 Sep 2017 in CSTI. It is the 1st step of digital training in institution of
BAF. Initial planning of this software is to bring ISSP and JCSC under the umbrella of digitalization. With
this development of information technology educational institution will be highly benefitted and very soon
subsequent steps will be taken to digitalize the curriculum of squadron commander course and CSTI
library. All the PSO from Air HQ, Air Officer Commanding from BAF BSR, BAF BBD and Air HQ (U) and
Directors from Air HQ were present during this inauguration ceremony.

On 25 Sep 17, a book review session was held at the library of CSTI. OC CSTI Air Cdre Shaharul Huda, psc, chaired the book review session as chief guest while WC A T M Irfanur Rahman, psc conducted the session as moderator. 04XStudent Officers of 105 JC&SC participated in the session with the reviews of books which they have studied and analyzed in front of the audience. It was very first time In JC&SC course history where the student officers participated in a lively interacting session of book review. The session certainly grew interests amongst the students to read and study the vast collections of CSTI library books .OC CSTI emphasized and requested all students officers to grow more reading habits and read all kind of books, especially as a men in blue, he advised the students officers to grow more interest on reading air power and war related books to enrich their knowledge more.

On 04 Oct 17, a mock trial of Summary of Evidence was
staged in CSTI class room. WC Harun-Or-Rashid, psc, DS
of Legal Studies was the supervisor of the act. 07 X student
Officers of 105 JCSC participated in the Trial. The trial was a
part of the Legal Studies module curriculum. The students
experienced an essence of real time trial of a Summary of
Evidence by this act. WC Shah Kawsar Ahmed Chy, psc,
WC A T M Irfanur Rahman, psc and SL SK Mohammad Ali
were also present and encouraged the student Officers
during the act. The initiative was well appreciated by all DSs
and inspired the students of 105 JCSC for taking more
initiative.
Wg Cdr Haroon or Rashid, psc briefing the student officers before SOE MOC Trial
Joint exercise with Bangladesh Army named
“SHOKTO GHATI” took place from 12 Oct 17 to 15
Oct 17. A two member’s team had come from SI&T,
Sylhet. They gave the detailed mission brief on 12
Oct 17. Bangladesh was divided into two part along
the western boarder. There was a tension going on
between the ‘Wolfland’ - en forces and the
‘Greenland’- friendly forces regarding IB. The mission
was to give air support GL army. Both the syndicate
‘A’ & ‘B’ made their plan and gave presentation with
detailed ATO and AD plan on 15 Oct 17 alone with
the preparation of map.
Prof Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, Vice-Chancellor, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, is a renowned
personality of Bangladesh. He was a Prof of the distinguished University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Prof Kalimullah has been playing an instrument role in various elections in Bangladesh. He has held
various appointments and also received a lot of honorary appointment in the field of Public Administration
in different organization and universities both at home and abroad. He has enlightened the student officers
of no 105 JC & SC regarding the ‘Research Methodology’ & ‘Bangladesh Constitution and the Electoral
Process’, which enhance the knowledge of the student officer regarding the subject.
GUEST LECTURE by Prof Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, Vice-Chancellor, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur
On the serious of presentation by various eminent guest speakers, No 105 JCSC had the
opportunity to listen from a Great War hero Squadron Leader (Retd) Liaqat Ali Khan BU. Besides
the course member’s officer from other Bases were fortunate to attend the lecture program. The
Great War hero fought valiantly along with the soldiers and officers of the 1st E.Bengal during the
Liberation War. In recognition of that, he received National gallantry award,”Bir Uttam” for his
bravery and leadership displayed on battlefield. He rejoined BAF in February’72 and dedicated
himself to reconstruct and reorganize the BAF and effectively became one of the founding fathers
of BAF. It was a good interactive session between the students and the war hero. Everybody will
treasure this propitious memory throughout their life.
