Abstract: The aim of this study is to assess the level of job satisfaction and factors
affecting job satisfaction .The main idea of the study is to survey the relationship
between job satisfaction and the influence of demographic factors. To study this
cross-sectional study we focused on 221 professionals in nursing in six educational
hospitals in zahedan city, in Iran in 2002-2003.Two survey questionnaires
consisting of 154 items judged on a 5 point Likert-type scale, each were
administered one to leaders and one for other employees in nursing. We
investigated the correlation between independent variables (age, number of years
of employment, manager's attitude, leader's characteristics, and managerial
competencies of leaders) and the dependent variable (job satisfaction – work
contentment, coworkers, administration, pay, etc) by using correlation analysis.
Method: This is a descriptive, analytical, cross-sectional study performed over the
community of all educated nurses that were working in six educational hospitals of
Zahedan city in 2002-2003. The structured survey appliance distributed among
nurses included 154 questions evaluated on a five point Linkert- type scale. The
questionnaire contained information on two parts, including demographic
information and the questions related to the job satisfaction. The data collected
through questionnaires were analyzed by SPSS statistical Microsoft, the Mon& Tine, Kruskal-Wallis based co-efficiency were used. The data collected revealed
statistically significant indices such as benefits, participating in making decisions,
qualification, routine, chances for prosperity apart from their hospitals and their job
back –up.Results: Job satisfaction rate was 48.0± 13.0 in men and 51.5± 14.5 in
women (table 1). Of all the educated nurses (221) that took part in this research
field, 78.3% were women and the rest were men. And the nursery background was
8.5± 6.34 years and the nursery working time was 42± 1.12 hours per week. 95.9%
were B.Sci. Graduates. and 75.1% were married. Discussion & Conclusion:
Results of this study showed that the most job satisfaction has been based on
nursery human being’s accomplishment and knowledge, patient’s serving interest
and good relation with other clerks. And the least rate of job satisfaction was seen
all connected with some factors, such as lack of proper income and the job design
and also, in spite of job interests and desires and friendly atmosphere of work place
there were some fiscal problems that caused the reduction of nurses satisfaction.

Analysis of Multiple Choice Questions of the Second Semester Examinations Held
in Zahedan College of Nursing
and Midwifery in 2010-2011
Abstract: To assess the academic achievement of students, teacher-made or
standardized tests such as the fourchoice
tests were used. Procedure: Out of second term examination answer sheets of
seventeen faculty members,
452 questions were selected randomly and were read by SCN Mark-Reader device
and analyzed.The examination
was conducted in the second semester of academic year 2010-2011 at the college
of Nursing and Midwifery, The
anticipated difficult index set in the acceptable range of 0.3-0.7 and questions with
index range less than 0.3 were
considered difficult and questions more than 0.7 ranges as simple. Discrimination
index more than 0. 3 considered
acceptable and discrimination index less than 0. 3, and as well as negative
discrimination index were considered
unacceptable. If questions with distracting options were not. Selected by students
as question choice they were also
considered unacceptable. Results: Results showed that only 40% of the questions
were indexed as difficulty coefficiency
(Difficulty Index) and 36.5% questions with discrimination co- efficiency
(Discrimination Index) were
considered acceptable. Out of every four options, only 41% of the questions
attracted students' attention and rest of
the questions became three, two or even one option, and only 12% of questions
based on the above three factors
were having acceptable attributes. Conclusions: The findings of this study indicate
that the questions need to be
reviewed and appropriate and suitable approaches were suggested to assess
students’ present accurate criteria.

Abstract: Oral sub mucous fibrosis (OSF) is a precancerous condition caused by
the use of areca nut in various
forms. There are few reports on areca nut use and OSF in Chabahar, south Iran. In
this descriptive, analytical and
cross-sectional study 397 users of Pan / Gutka (products contain areca nut) were
studied to survey the oral
submucosal fibrosis. The criterion of diagnosis of OSF in this study was the
limitations of mouth opening and stiff
fibrotic bands within the mucosa. Information about the amount of consumption,
kind of substance used, and
duration of consumption was mentioned in the questionnaire. Data were analyzed
and studied by, SPSS 14, c hisquare
test. Of 397 Pan (Areca nut) / Gutka consumers (391 men and 6 women), 70
participants (17.63%) men and
one woman (0.25%) were affected by OSF. The risk of OSF in Gutka consumers
(20%) was more than pan users
(17.54%). Duration, dose and frequency of consumption were significantly
associated with OSF occurrence (p<
0.05). Recent study indicated strong relationship between consumption of products
containing areca nut with OSF.

Abstract: Regular physical activity is one of the factors that act positively on
health. Nowadays, with highly
developed multimedia technologies, such as computers and computer games attract
children and teens, as a result
children tend to have less physical activity. According to the WHO report one of
the ten leading causes of death and
disability in the world, is sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical activity. Given
the use of television, computers,
computer games and the physical activities of children and their parents were
studied. This cross-sectional,
descriptive, and analytical study was conducted on 120 elementary school students
and their parents, in 2012 , in
Zahedan city, Iran. Information by using a questionnaire about demographic, and
children and their parents’
physical activity and children time spent on watching television and using
computers, was collected. The results of
this study showed that only 43.7 students had regular physical activity, and
meanwhile, only 42.7% of fathers and
24.5% mothers had physical activity. In children the average time of watching
television per day was 2.5 hours, and
mean time of computer use during a day was 1 hour. Consistent with many studies,
this study showed that a
significant percentage (56.3%) of children aged 7-12 years had no regular exercise
program, On average children
engaged 2.5 hours in watching television and 1 hour using computers a day..In a
similar study it has been reported
students spent about 3 hours watching television a day( 14 ). In another study It has
been reported that average time
engaged by students in watching television and computer games a day and night
was 9 hours ( 15 ). This is because,
based on research it was found about 15% of adolescents in different regions of
Iran , due to physical inactivity are
affected by overweight and obesity . If such lifestyle continues in future obesity
will be a major health problem in
teens and high treatment costs will be imposed on individuals and society in this
area. In the absence of proper
planning problems will be increased in the future. [Javid Dehghan Haghighi,

ABSTRACT
Background: Teucrium polium is an analgesic, antidiabetic and antilipeidemic
herbal medicament. The aim
of this survey was to evaluate the effect of aqueous extract T. polium on liver
enzymes linked to liver
dysfunction, serum lipids and glucose, in diabetic male rats. Methods: A total of
20 Sprague-Dawly male rats
became diabetic by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (60 mg/kg). the
animals were divided randomly
into two groups. Experimental group was fed Teucrium polium (50 mg/kg) for a
month but control group was
received the same volume of distilled water. Liver enzymes, biochemical
parameters (cholesterol, triglyceride,
low density lipoprotein, alanine transaminase, aspartae transaminase) and glucose
were measured by kinetic
(Enzymatic) and colorimetric methods. Data obtained were analyzed and mean
values were compared by
paired student's t-test. The results were expressed as mean ± SD. Significant
differences were set at P<0.05.
Results: Our results showed that in test group, serum glucose values decreased
significantly (P<0.05), but
cholesterol, triglyceride, low density lipoprotein, alanine transaminase and aspartae
transaminase increased
significantly after use of T. polium (P<0.05). This parameters value did not show
any changes in control
group. Conclusion: Although the aqueous extract of Teucrium polium has strong
hypoglycemic properties in
experimental animals, but because of some hepatotoxic effects, it is not suitable to
use it in human as an
antidiabetic agent. Iran. Biomed. J. 11 (1): 65-68, 2007

Compliance of Medical Studies Published in International Journals with Community Health Needs in 2008. Abstract: Research is to investigate and understand the facts and a plan for discovering the unknown truth. Research can be known as a logical process that its purpose is to explore the relationships between phenomena which will result in human growth and excellence. Scientific productions and publishing them in scientific journals is one of the major indices of research and science production in the world. Considering the role of journals which have provided proper conditions for production and transfer of knowledge, it is possible to determine the direction of scientific research of medical researchers by reviewing the content of articles published in the health field. The aim of the present study is to determine the compliance of medical research topics with the issues which are known as the major causes of mortality in the world. Methods: In this survey study, the publishing status of pa`pers has been investigated to
determine the scientific direction of medical researchers in a year. Ten leading causes of death worldwide announced by the World Health Organization in 2008 were selected. Keywords of mortality factors were determined, then entered in the Mesh medical subject headings and the proposed words were determined. Then, the new keywords were searched in the Pubmed database. The obtained data was entered into the SPSS V.15 software and were analyzed using the chi-square test at a significant level of P<0.05. The results showed that the researchers in the field of human health have not considered the issue of mortality as the main priority in their researches. The direction of their studied shows another orientation. Universities were also negligent to achieve their mission which is the resolving of the health problems of people. University-affiliated publications also were not active to reflect the results of scientific research of their faculty members. So that the results of medical researches of faculty members, have mainly been published in the university-nonaffiliated journals Conclusion: A material incentive is one of the important factors which influence the discrepancies between the studied issues and the community health care needs. The role of scientific journals and their custodians in determining the research priorities is very important. Besides health researches, financial support will help developing the medical sciences. But, these developments should be taking into account the health care needs of people. Otherwise, this notion is found in the community that physicians have been away from their original mission and the sacred medical profession achieved commercialization
direction. http://www.lifesciencesite.com, Keywords: Medical researchers; Medical journals; Mortality factors;

Abstract
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a common disorder. Although the etiology of PMS is not clear,
to relieve from this syndrome different methods are recommended. One of them is use of
medicinal herbs. This study was carried out to evaluate effects of ginger on severity of symptoms
of PMS. This study was a clinical trial, double-blinded work, and participants were randomly
allocated to intervention (n = 35) and control (n = 35) groups. To determine persons suffering
from PMS, participants completed daily record scale questionnaire for two consecutive cycles.
After identification, each participant received two ginger capsules daily from seven days before
menstruation to three days after menstruation for three cycles and they recorded severity of the
symptoms by daily record scale questionnaire. Data before intervention were compared with date
1, 2, and 3 months after intervention. Before intervention, there were no significant differences
between the mean scores of PMS symptoms in the two groups, but after 1, 2, and 3 months of
treatment, there was a significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.0001). Based on the
results of this study, maybe ginger is effective in the reduction of severity of mood and physical
and behavioral symptoms of PMS and we suggest ginger as treatment for PMS

Abstract: Protozoan Toxoplasma gondi is an important cause of serious infections spreading among the human
population and domestic animals in the world and the chronic phase in animals is after asymptomaticsyndromes.
What's disease, acute infection, asymptomatic? In allcases of acute infection due to the persistence of parasite cysts
observed, the disease is caused by the reactivation of cysts. Married women exposed to the disease could predispose
them to disease, This study aimed at determining the level of IgG antibodies at the time of their marriage counseling
has been done in Zahedan. During this descriptive – analytical study, 280 women referring to the Razmjoo
moghaddam central laboratory of Zahedan from February 2009- to December 2009 were measured for IgG by
ELISA method. Then blood samples were taken from them and the level of blood IgG antibody was measured by
ELISA method and the results with obtained IgM measurement and their relationship with demographic issues,
including those of residence, education level, were noted. Home cat care and pet at home, and how the meat is
cooked were surveyed.28.2% of patients with type IgG antibodies were having significant positive correlation with
the maintenance of home cats and how the meat was cooked. In other words, women who kept cats in their home
and had half-cooked or raw meat to eat, showed increased positive antibody. The results of these studies indicated
that a high percentage of susceptible women of childbearing in Zahedan city, were without a note of antibodies
against Toxoplasma and thus they are susceptible to infection. Thus in order to prevent infection of susceptible
pregnant women and prevent problems that may arise during pregnancy, awareness and control of pathogens
associated with disease, education and health care practice, are recommended.

Streptococcus pneumoniae is the leading cause of death among children worldwide. This study was conducted to evaluate the antibiotic resistance patterns and seroepidemiology of invasive S. pneumoniae isolates in children of Zahedan. Invasive isolates of S. pneumoniae were obtained from normal sterile sites (blood, cerebrospinal fluid, pleural fluid, joint aspirate, peritoneal fluid and pericardial fluid) of pediatric patients (aged ≤14 years) from 3 large hospitals in Zahedan, Iran. The serotyping was carried out by latex agglutination test and the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of penicillin, as well as other commonly used antibiotics were determined by broth dilution method. During February 2008 to November 2010, a total of 1265 children with suspected invasive bacterial disease were recruited, of whom 75 (5.9%) were identified to have S. pneumoniae as the causative agent of invasive disease. The leading serotypes were 23F, 6B, 3, 19F and 14 (70.7% of all isolates). Intermediate- and high-level resistance, were observed in 37.3 and 45.4% of isolates respectively. Resistance was also demonstrated against erythromycin (90.7%), cotrimoxazole (80.0%), tetracycline (66.6%), cefuroxime (62.7%), imipenem (17.3%) and amoxicillin/clavulanate (9.2%). All the isolates were susceptible to vancomycin and levofloxacin. Multiple drug resistance was observed mostly in types 19F, 23F, 6B and 14. The application of heptavalent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV7) covered 68.0% of all IPD cases, 42.7% of the penicillin-nonsusceptible S. pneumoniae (PNSSP), and 48.0% of the multiple drug resistant (MDR) isolates. The highest PNSSP prevalence and highest PCV7 coverage were in children aged <2
years. Antibiotic resistance was common among invasive isolates of S. pneumoniae in Zahedan. The present study suggests that the introduction of anti-pneumococcal conjugate vaccines into immunization programme would likely lead to a significant reduction of IPD- associated morbidity among children in Zahedan. Abstract: BACKGROUND: Most women experience premenstrual syndrome (PMS) at their reproductive
age. PMS is a combination of psychological, physical and behavioral changes that interfere with familial
communication and social activities. OBJECTIVES: Different methods have been suggested for treating
PMS and one of them is herbal medicine. This study was done to evaluate the effects of curcumin on
severity of PMS symptoms. METHODS: This research was a clinical trial, double-blinded study. After
having identified persons suffering from PMS, participants were randomly allocated to placebo (n=35)
and curcumin (n=35) groups. Then each participant received two capsules daily for seven days before
menstruation and for three days after menstruation for three successive cycles and they recorded
severity of the symptoms by daily record questionnaire. RESULTS: The baseline level of PMS symptoms
of before intervention did not differ between groups. While after three consecutive cycles treatment
with curcumin, total severity of PMS score had reduced from 102.06±39.64 to 42.47±16.37 (mean
change: 59.59; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 46.19-72.99) and in Placebo, total severity of PMS score
changed from 106.06±44.12 to 91.60±43.56 (mean change: 14.45; 95% CI: 2.69 to 26.22). Furthermore,
difference between mean changes was significant (mean difference: 45.14; 95% CI: 6.10-14.98).
CONCLUSIONS: Our results for the first time showed a potential advantageous effect of curcumin in
attenuating severity of PMS symptoms, which were probably mediated by modulation of
neurotransmitters and anti-inflammatory effects of curcumin.

Assessment of Radioactivity in Plants Socialite Water
S.A. Hosseini and M. Jayapalan
ABSTRACT
Water, soil and plants sources are concentrators of radioactivity
and constitute a good indicator for radioactive contamination in
the arid environment. There were few data for radioactivity in
arid, semi-natural ecosystem. Radioactivity of soil, water and
plant in the eastern arid border of Iran was unknown. This has
been measured in sources of plant, soil and water as samples for
assessment of radioactivity. The results showed that the mean
radioactivity in plant is 772±95 Bq per kg dry plant, in soil is
268±50 Bq per kg dry soil and in water is 216±31 Bq per liter
waste. Therefore, radioactivity concentration of ionizing radiation
in plants is more than water and soil sources in eastern arid
border of Iran, Sistan and Blouchestan province.

Correspondence ABSTRACT Background: Academic staff in the University is engaged in education and research activities, and in
upgrading process each of two issues should be considered. In this study impact of faculty promotion which is result of research
activities of faculty on level of student learning and eventually, its effects are reflected in basic science comprehensive exams of
Medical students in zahedan. Methodology: This study is a cross-sectional study, carried out to check the faculty promotion impact
due to research activities on GPA (Grade point average), standard score, classification and rating of each group, ranking of different
groups of school of Medicine in zahedan. Results: Available results of GPA, standard score, classification and ratings of all subjects
except one or two showed negative correlation co-efficiency at a level of p<o.o5 with faculty promotion, respectively in these nineteen
terms. Discussion: Faculty Research Activities had no any impact on basic science exam results of many groups. Conclusion: According
to these results it appears the present criteria of faculty Research Activities has no any positive influence on student's education. To
put in nut shell, we can say that these findings suggest that research and educational activities at present are not aligned, but they are
moving in two different directions.
