The necessary PPE required for the appropriate care of patients with or under investigation for COVID-19 at Nebraska Medicine are: Donning PPE must always take place in an area where it is safe to be without PPE such as the hallway or the nurse server. As you care for patients with COVID-19, take precautions to keep from contaminating yourself or your PPE. Prior to Donning PPE patient care area. Don all PPE prior to entering the Donning PPE Don PPE in the following order: Developed by The Office of Health Professions Education 04/10/2020 Doffing PPE Doffing order when wearing goggles: Doffing PPE begins in the patient room at the exit. Position yourself close to the exit with a waste container and linen hamper within reach. Linen and waste do not require special handling for COVID-19. 1. Perform hand hygiene over gloves. 2. Doff gown. 3. Doff gloves. 4. Exit patient room. 5. Perform hand hygiene. 6. Don clean gloves. 7. Use disinfectant wipe to clean surface for goggles. 8. Remove goggles. 9. Disinfect goggles. 10. Perform hand hygiene on gloves. 11. Remove N95. 12. Remove gloves. 13. Perform hand hygiene. 14. Place cleaned goggles in designated area.
