Maya Conquistador contains a multitude of translated Mayan writings. In the majority of these texts, the

Maya reference tributes. Tributes were payments of sorts that had to be paid to the Spaniards who were in

charge. The amount and the content of the tributes depended on the natural resources and the greediness

of whoever was in charge.

Entrance to the house of of the Spanish ruling families, the Montejos

The Spanish utilized the subjugated Maya in a variety of ways. Their superior skill with stone work was

taken advantage of by the Montejo family who commissioned this facade. Pay attention to the feet of the Montejo men in armor...those are Mayan heads.

King Philip II of Spain

The Maya were ruled over by various Spaniards all in the name

of the King of Spain. When treatment by the Spanish was too much for the Maya to bear, they would write letters to the King Philip II of Spain. In their letters,

the Maya would detail their grievances and beg the King for relief from their local Spanish

rulers.
