    Accounting personal statement

Accounting is like Art. You have to analyse every aspect before making a just decision.A teacher of mine once told me that if you were good at art, you would be good at accounts. It was hard to findhis logic at first, but having spent two years doing !"# Art and a further two on Accounts A $evel, it all beganto make sense. You need logic% everything has a set order and method. #ach piece is placed carefully and hasa high significance amongst its environment. You need analytical skills. &ake apart every piece of information

and use it to make your own decisions.

'aving e(celled in both these e(ams, I can proudly say that I possess the skills that will lead me to university. Ihave developed an interest in studying accounts or and would therefore like to continue doing so at university.&he course that I would like to do at university is )usiness Accounts or Accounts and *inance. I feel that thetwo subjects combine well with one another and on many occasions I have founds that my knowledge of onehas helped me with the other. "tudying +aths and )usiness has also provided me with logic and a greaterunderstanding of various concepts and methods. I have become more fle(ible in identifying what conceptsneed to be used and when, thus, helping me achieve the greatest results possible. I have the ability to pick upskills and knowledge uickly and am independent enough to conduct my own study and research. -n manyoccasions at college I have taught myself various chapters in maths in order to remain ahead of the class.

+y main ambition for the future is to become an Accountant #(ecutive or a *inancial Advisor. I am hopinguniversity will provide me with an understanding of the business world as well as offering me a wide range ofchoices and connections after my course. 'owever, I have also helped to teach mathematics. I have takenpart in a project at school where we taught younger pupils the basics of maths. I also helped to tutor many ofmy classmates in preparation for e(ams, which they found helpful. I enjoyed teaching and so this will be mythird choice of career.

-utside of studying, one of my many passions is Art. I enjoy visiting art galleries and studying art in depth. +yfavourite type of art is symbolism and surrealism and my favourite artists are ali and #scher as they bothdeal with double possibilities. /ecently, however, I have developed a new interest in contemporary art, ofwhich I have done a number of paintings on canvas on commission for friends and family who have all beenpleased with my work.

+ost of my spare time on the weekend is taken up by my part time job as a sales associate at "kechers 0"A,)ullring, )irmingham. I have been working at "kechers since the opening of the store in "eptember 1223 andam one of only two of the original members of staff left. &his is an advantage for me as I can offer the highestlevel of customer service and have a good knowledge of the overall running of the store, which makes mecommitted, reliable and adaptable as I have found that I need to adjust myself to the many changes that haveoccurred over the year. +y job has also taught me to be more tolerable and patient with others.

I have thoroughly enjoyed college and believe that university is the ne(t step for me. !ollege and my part timejob have changed me as a person. &hey have given me a greater sense of independence and success. I feelthat college has really made me grow and has introduced me to a wider range of people. I have opened up topeople more and am now a better team player as I have learnt to listen to others and take in their opinions. I

have become accepting to other cultures and beliefs and feel that I am much more open4minded.I hope that you have analysed this piece carefully enough to offer me a place at your university, and trust thatyou have yet to see the bigger picture of me.

    Art and esign personal statement

&o take a journey in art is to follow a path that is never ending% you will never know all there is to know or seeand discover all there is out there. You will find yourself 82 years down that path still discovering new things, getting e(cited and inspired by the most ordinary of things, uestion the media to which we are e(posed, whether it be the design of a !..cover, a window display, the layout of a room or even the shapes and lines ofa shoe.

*or those of us that choose art, it is not a career or a hobby, but a passion, a way of life. @e all see the world

differently, and when I take a moment to look around me, my mind starts to bu with ideas about my materialsurroundings. +y future, as I see it, will have art as an anchor. I would hope that after completing my degree, Iwould continue my studies in my chosen field and make a professional career out of art. I couldn=t possiblyimagine never being connected to the art community and to a world of talent and imagination where anythingis truly possible.

)ecause art is a passion to those who choose to study it, I believe that its students really do put their heartsand souls into their work and push themselves that e(tra mile. @hen I was in my portfolio course I was socaptured by e(ploring the different disciplines, mi(ing and e(perimenting with colours , te(tures, light anddifferent mediums and effects, that I found myself taking my work future than was asked of me, out of pureenjoyment and curiosity. I currently work in retail and I jump at the chance to dive into any kind of art project forwork like designing adverts for our advertising, shop display and window dressing.

I do commissioned work on an individual basis, which I love. I love having a project to focus on at all times, togive me focus and goals and to inject my never ideas into. I=m doing a part time course in fashion as I feel ithas become my main passion having now being e(posed to all the disciplines and variety in the art sector.@hat captivates me most about this discipline, Is the opportunity to mi( others with it, like photography, graphicdesign, painting or even something as simple as using print for your te(tile design. It also allows me to bothdesign and create my work in three dimensions. I love the design process but working with my hands toaccomplish a finished product is the most rewarding for me.

It is fair to say that since my childhood art has been my direction and an integral part of my life, from helping todesign and make the sets and costumes for school plays to making my dolls clothes.

Deeping in touch with the art community is vital for me, it is a community where no matter where you live or

whatever your background, you can meet with like minded people to interact with and discus views ,e(changeideas learn new things, find new artists and see new e(hibitions. "eeing live bands play whether local orinternationally recognised is also something that I get great enjoyment and inspiration from. I see music in thesame way I see art, composed of simple riffs and beats all put together to different timing and order to create apiece of work delivered with passion and energy, and so I have a great respect for anyone who shares thattalent and gift with the rest of the world.

$ikewise, cinema and photography hold the same ualities for me. &he idea here of capturing a still imagewhich can be so ordinary and make is appear in a different light, giving the viewer and insight into how you seethings. &o make the ordinary e(traordinary and deliver it for all to see.

I=m choosing to study abroad to meet new people and discover a different culture, change my entireenvironment and move out of the comfort one, which I think is where most people tend

    to produce their best work.

&here is no right or wrong in art and it can be translated a million different ways.

Art is not a career choice, it is a life choice. It is my choice andalways will be.

!hemistry is in my opinion the most important of the sciences today. As a science of matter and its properties,!hemistry can be applied to almost any situation from forensics through medicine to environmentalsustainability. It is this practical side of !hemistry that has made me want to study it at university. I amparticularly interested in -rganic !hemistry and I enjoy working out the outcomes of various reactions andnaming the products with systematic nomenclature. !omputer "cience personal statement

+y three major interests and passions are !omputer "cience, +aths and +usic, and I believe that there is acreative fusion between all these disciplines. I engage wholeheartedly in these areas both in my schoolcourses and out of school, and hope that I will be able to continue doing so on my chosen course and in thee(tra4curricular opportunities at university.!omputer "cience has uite naturally come to be my chosen field. At the age of 7, I took to playing the piano, which planted the first seeds of my interest in defined logical patterns and structure. +y introduction tocomputing was via the logic of spreadsheets, but I then progressed to using )A"I! for several applicationsoutside lessons, including programming my own version of $ogo and an analogue clock. A major recentachievement of mine has been designing a database4driven website for my schools +aths department, including multi4format homework uestion publication and report generation. &his is e(tensively used by thedepartment, and other departments have approached me to provide them with similar websites. &his projectwas nominated and then short4listed for the final ten of the 5ew "tatesmans L5ew +edia :#ducational;Maward.I look forward to studying Artificial Intelligence, and have made my own minor foray into this area by designingand developing a computer4powered !onnect > player using a comple( minima( procedure. I alsoinvestigated recurring function e(ecution to simulate the fill function of a paint package, an algorithm of whichwas used to develop a random mae generator. #ngineering :civil; personal statement

+odern life is almost wholly dependent on engineering. It is everywhere and it is always changing, and it is thisin particular which attracts me to civil engineering. I hope that in this field I can combine my knowledge andskills in physics and maths, two subjects which particularly interest me, and also work in an area which is bothdiverse and e(citing. I am attracted to the prospect of a job which enables me to shape the world around mefor the future and make a difference to peoples lives. @hilst I anticipate a challenging and demanding career, Ialso e(pect it to be very rewarding, especially when I can see projects I have worked on being built from startto completion.

I first encountered civil engineering during work e(perience with a local firm in -ctober 1223. @hilst there, Iwas inspired by the opportunity to apply my e(isting skills to real4life problems, and as a result decided toparticipate in the #ngineering #ducation "cheme. As part of a team of five, I worked closely with ualifiedengineers on a railway embankment stabilisation project, and relished the chance to become fully involved inan actual engineering problem from start to finish. I e(perienced project management and report writing andgained invaluable team4working, time4management and presentation skills, producing a report which wascommended by a number of senior engineers. *ollowing this I attended a 'eadstart course at 'eriot @att0niversity, and also visited *airfield +abey, where I saw ongoing work on various bridges, both in the designoffice and on site. uring the summer I was interviewed by !ostain and subseuently offered a )uildingAwareness "i(th *orm "cholarship for my academic achievements and keen interest in civil engineering.

In +arch 122> I was one of thirty students selected to participate in a five4day maths and physics event at-(ford 0niversity, and this #aster I also attended a maths course at $eeds 0niversity. At both of these Ienjoyed developing my problem4solving ability and adapting my knowledge to new and challenging situationsbeyond the scope of my schoolwork. At $eeds I found I was not attracted to the more theoretical approach ofstudying maths and preferred problems relating to real4life situations, particularly a lecture on the instability of$ondons +illennium )ridge, and I hope that this is something I can continue to enjoy throughout myengineering career.

I am currently working towards my uke of #dinburgh old Award, in which I particularly enjoy the challengeof planning and undertaking the e(peditions, and the sense of achievement afterwards. As part of the award Ihave set4up and run my schools first si(th form netball team, further utilising my team4working andorganisational skills. I am working towards the #uropean !omputer riving $icence in order to e(tend my I&

skills, and I am also a Young $eader at a local uide 0nit, where I enjoy working with the girls and motivatingthem to acuire new skills. $ast -ctober I was one of twenty uides and "couts who participated in the 81thInternational "pace -lympics in +oscow, achieving one of the highest non4/ussian scores in the competitionshistory. &his involved e(ams and a group presentation, and through research and preparation for these I wasable to e(tend my knowledge of maths and physics into new, more advanced areas.

&hrough my e(periences I am already beginning to appreciate the diversity which civil engineering will offer, and I hope to build on this by securing a work placement ne(t summer as well as sponsorship for my degree. Ihave enjoyed my time at school and now look forward to the challenge of university and to a varied ande(citing career in civil engineering.

being inspired to make and design anything and everythingS &his love of Art has stayed with me and developed and

I have always wanted to work within the Art and esign industry because it has always felt like the right direction for me to

I enjoy visiting Art alleries and e(hibitions. I am particularly interested in figurative portraiture and Illustration4based
