Preface

OverviewThe NCR Personas 88 Automated Teller Machine (ATM) is a drive-up self-service terminal belonging to the Personas series.

A drive-up solution allows NCR’s customers to deliver banking services in true off-premise locations for the convenience of consumers. ATM deployers can make use of the consumers’ desire for this convenience to generate sustainable profit, reduce operating costs and build their brand. Research carried out by NCR in the US revealed that consumers are at least 20% more likely to use a machine accessible from their car compared to one they would have to approach on foot. People prefer to remain in their cars for a variety of reasons – the weather, they may have children with them or they may be running late for a meeting. Whatever the reason, these ATM’s enable everyone to bank whenever they want, stay out of the wind and rain and avoid the inconvenience of parking.

NCR’s Personas 88 drive-up solution is positioned to be completely flexible in meeting all the customer’s needs for a full-function drive-up ATM. The freestanding Personas 88 solution allows customers to start with minimum functionality while providing expansion to allow for deposits, full statements and alternative media, such as dispensing stamps.

The NCR Personas 88 Automated Teller Machine may be installed in the following locations:

● On a drive-up island – which must be a minimum of 1067 mm (42 in.) wide

● In a kiosk – either on an island, or in some other drive-up location, for example in a car park

● In a first lane location – that is, installed through an exterior wall of the bank to a drive-up lane.

Preparing the SiteThis document contains the information necessary for the preparation of a site conforming to NCR specifications. It is very important that the site complies with the requirements specified in this document because, once the equipment has been installed, deficiencies in site preparation or the problems caused by these deficiencies are much more difficult to detect and correct. Further, failure to comply with these requirements or to take proper steps to protect equipment against risks identified in this document may cause serious damage to the equipment and to the customer’s business.

In addition to the need to comply with the requirements specified, electrical wiring and mechanical systems must also comply with all relevant codes, laws and regulations.

It is important that the site be prepared by a customer or his agent who is fully conversant with the special requirements of electronic equipment. The responsibility for ensuring that the site is prepared in compliance with this document remains with the customer.

For information and guidance only, a list is provided, in general terms, of those matters for which the customer is responsible. This list is not intended to be comprehensive, and in no way modifies, alters, or limits the responsibility of the customer for all aspects of adequate site preparation.

NCR staff will be available to answer questions relating to the contents of this document but, except where:

a the customer has been notified that a full or partial consultancy service is available and/or that NCR will be willing to undertake a preliminary or final site survey, and

b the customer shall have entered into a formal contract with NCR for provision of the same

no comment, suggestion or advice offered or not offered about preparation of the site nor any inspection of the site whether before or after preparation is to be taken as approval of the location of the site and equipment or of its preparation and NCR will not be liable in respect of any comment, suggestion or advice given by its staff or in respect of any failure to give advice.

Finally, only the customer can know the full extent of damage which may be caused to his business by reason of failure of the equipment which is to be installed. For this reason it is the customer’s responsibility to ascertain the extent of any such possible damage to his existing or planned business, and to effect full insurance in respect of it.

Product Identification

The product is identified by a class type number, 5588, and a 4 digit model number which is printed on a label fixed beside the operator panel in the top cabinet of the ATM. The first two digits of the model number identify the major model (normally 01), the next two digits identify the minor model (normally 01).

Manoeuvring the Terminal into Position 1

Ensure that doorways and corridors leading to your point of installation are wide enough to allow the package to pass through, or make arrangements to unpack the terminal in an area with sufficient access and then move it to the installation site. The following table shows the minimum dimensions for doorways, corridors with right angle corners and the space required to rotate a terminal on its axis. The figures assume the terminal is being moved using equipment that does not extend significantly beyond the footprint of the terminal or packaging. A clearance of 6 mm (0.25 in.) all round has been allowed in the figures.

Preparing the Hole in the Wall 1

To ensure that an acceptable temperature is maintained around the terminal during cold weather it is important that the wall opening be properly prepared. Any cavity in the wall should be sealed off so as not extend into the wall opening. The gap between the terminal’s facia sleeve and the wall opening should left clear to allow room temperature air to circulate. To enable a good weather seal to be made between the wall and the terminal facia, a 25 mm (1 in.) wide smooth surface is required around the periphery of the wall opening.

Physical RequirementsRequirements for the Floor

Book.bk Page 12 Wednesday, April 24, 2002 9:29 AM

Floor Covering 1

An antistatic floor covering should be used and must be of a type that will not generate dust or fluff.

Floor Loading 1

The terminal must be installed on a solid floor or plinth capable of supporting the maximum weight. The weight of the terminal varies with configuration, however, only the maximum weight should be considered since additional options may be added after installation:

● Maximum weight: 689 kg (1519 lb.)● Floor loading: 1130 kg/m2 (231.4 lb./ft2)

Security Bolts 1

The Personas 88 terminal can be bolted to the floor using two bolts. If the terminal is to be bolted down, the floor must be capable of withstanding the loading imposed by the anchor points for the bolts. The bolts and anchors must be supplied by the owning organisation.

AC Power Line Transient ProtectionTransient Protection A

AC Power Line Transient Protection A

In the process of power distribution, transient electrical energy (including, but not limited to, lightning strikes, intermittent short circuits, and switching transients) can be introduced on to power lines. Such transient energy can be very damaging to electronic hardware and can also cause data corruption. Under these circumstances, NCR recommends the use of ac power transient suppressors and data (communication) line transient suppressors. Such protective devices are intended to guard against power and data line transients that can result in hardware damage and various system or program errors.

Improvement of any deficiencies in power quality is a customer responsibility. Malfunction and/or component failure as a result of power quality problems are/is not covered by NCR Maintenance Agreement, NCR accepts no liability for any such occurrence nor for its consequences.

When power transient suppression is required, the suppressors used should meet the following minimum requirements:

● Capable of dissipating energy to match the appropriate application categories as defined by IEEE Standard 587. These categories are described in the table below:

● Be of the voltage limiting (clipping) or tracking filter type. The suppressor must not ‘clamp’ the voltage to zero, and must self-recover after passage of the transient. The suppressor may be of the hybrid type construction that makes use of various technologies in order to meet speed and dissipation requirements.

● Exhibit a ‘short circuit’ mode upon its failure, thus providing a positive indication of its failure such as a blown fuse or tripped breaker.

● Be listed by the accepted safety organization for the country involved (e.g. UL, CSA, VDE, ETL, etc.) and the installation must conform to local, state, and national electrical codes and regulations.

Data Line Transient Protection A

The nature of the transient phenomenon may extend to the data communication lines connected to this equipment. It is the responsibility of the customer to install and connect a data line transient suppression system to correct or prevent any deficiencies. Such systems must meet the following minimum requirements:

● Be of the voltage limiting type and must self-recover after passage of the transient

● Exhibit a “short circuit” mode upon its failure to insure a positive indication of its failure

● Insert less than 5 ohms resistance, and minimal inductive and capacitive loading at the operating frequency, in each data line in order to avoid signal degradation

● Be installed in accordance with all applicable local, state, and national electrical codes and regulations.

Note: In certain countries, NCR is able to supply both power and data line transient suppressors as well as a comprehensive line of power conditioning equipment. For application data, contact your NCR Customer Services Division Representative.

Kiosk Design Examples C

This appendix provides some examples of possible designs for kiosks intended to house a Personas 88 ATM. In all cases, due allowance must be made for the service clearances shown in the section “Installation and Service Clearances” on page 1-7. However, kiosk dimensions can be reduced below those shown as long as the design includes doors, panels or walls that can be removed, opened or slid out of the way so as to provide the required service clearances.

Due to a kiosk’s small size and often exposed location, careful attention must be given to maintaining the environmental conditions within the kiosk. See “Environmental Requirements” on page 3-1 for more details.

Note that these are only examples of possible kiosk design solutions, they are not recommendations.
