What is Perspective?
• Generally speaking, Perspective is the way something appears to the
eye.
• Lets look at some perspective!

Words or a Person?
![Page 7: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
What do you see?
![Page 8: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Perspective is also how you
view something,
such as your interpretation
of a story.
![Page 9: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Do you think the story would be different from the Big Bad Wolf’s perspective?
We all know the story of the 3 Little Pigs. Right?
![Page 10: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Lets ask him!Mr. Big Bad Wolf, what is your side of the story?
![Page 11: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Well, I’m so glad you asked.
So I called, "Little Pig, Little Pig, are you in?" No answer. I was just about to go home without the cup of sugar for my dear old granny's birthday cake.
Way back in Once Upon a Time time, I was making a birthday cake for my dear old granny. I had a terrible sneezing cold. I ran out of sugar.
So I walked down the street to ask my neighbor for a cup of sugar. Now this neighbor was a pig. And he wasn't too bright either. He had built his whole house out of straw.
Can you believe it? I mean who in his right mind would build a house of straw? So of course the minute I knocked on the door, it fell right in. I didn't want to just walk into someone else's house.
That's when my nose started to itch. I felt a sneeze coming on. Well I huffed. And I snuffed. And I sneezed a great sneeze.
And you know what? The whole darn straw house fell down. And right in the middle of the pile of straw was the First Little Pig - dead as a doornail.
![Page 12: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
It seemed like a shame to leave a
perfectly good ham dinner lying
there in the straw.
So I ate it up. Think of it as a cheeseburger
just lying there.
But I still didn't have my cup of
sugar . So I went to the next neighbor's
house.
![Page 13: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
This neighbor was the First Little Pig's brother. He was a little smarter, but not much.
He has built his house of sticks. I rang the bell on the stick house. Nobody answered. I called, "Mr. Pig, Mr. Pig, are you in?"
He yelled back."Go away wolf. You can't come in. I'm shaving the hairs on my shinny chin chin."
I had just grabbed the doorknob when I felt another sneeze coming on. I huffed. And I snuffed. And I tried to cover my mouth, but I sneezed a great sneeze.
And you are not going to believe this, but the guy's house fell down just like his brother's. When the dust cleared, there was the Second Little Pig - dead as a doornail.
Wolf's honor!
So I did the only thing there was to do. I had
dinner again. Think of it as a second helping.
I was getting awfully full.
And I still didn't have that cup of sugarr for my dear
old granny's birthday cake. So I went to the next
house.
![Page 14: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
That’s me!
This guy was the First and Second Little Pig's brother.
He must have been the brains of the family. He had built his house of
bricks.
I knocked on the brick house. No answer. I called, "Mr Pig, Mr. Pig, are you in?" And do you know what that rude little porker answered?
"Get out of here, Wolf. Don't bother me again." Talk about impolite! He probably had a whole sackful of sugar. And he wouldn't give me even one little cup for my dear sweet old granny's birthday cake. What a pig!
Then the Third Little Pig yelled,
" And your old granny can sit on a pin!"
![Page 15: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Now I'm usually a pretty calm fellow.
![Page 16: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
But when somebody talks about my granny like that, I go a Little crazy.!
![Page 17: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
When the cops drove up, of course I was trying to break down this Pig's door. And the whole time I was huffing and puffing and sneezing and making a real scene. The rest as they say is history.
![Page 18: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
The news reporters found out about the two pigs I had for dinner.
So they jazzed up the story with all of that "Huff and puff and blow your house down"
They figured a sick guy going to borrow a cup of sugar didn't sound very exciting.
![Page 19: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
And they made me the Big Bad Wolf. That's it The real
story. I was framed. "
![Page 20: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Now lets look at perspective from an artists point of view.
![Page 21: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
• The ability to show depth on a flat
surface is called perspective.

During the Renaissance in Italy, architects and artists investigated the question of how to draw three
dimensional objects on flat surfaces. They began to think of a painting as an "open window" through
which the viewer sees the painted world.
![Page 23: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
What do you observe in each scene? Which objects and people in each scene
appear closest? Which appear furthest away? How do the sizes of people and objects appear
to change when they are further away?
![Page 24: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)

Read along in your handout with me!
Congratulations!! You have been chosen by the very wealthy patron of Florence, Italy, Giavanni de Bollinto, to create a great work of art for our school.
Your “masterpiece” will actually be 2 drawings.
Your first will represent the artistic style of the Middle Ages.
Your second drawing will represent the style of the Renaissance.
Use your notes on “Forms of Art” to help you.
Also, be sure to follow the following guidelines.
![Page 34: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/34.jpg)
Now that you have a great understanding of perspective, art of the Middle Ages & art of the Renaissance…
![Page 35: Perspective & You Be The Artist](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022062708/5588df47d8b42a5d3e8b4583/html5/thumbnails/35.jpg)
Guidelines1. Choose the proper subject for each time period.2. Each picture is to be no larger than an 8x11
piece of paper. You may want to create a practice sketch on scratch paper before completing your final drawing.
3. Label at least 5 parts of each drawing to show what makes it Middle Ages or Renaissance.
4. You are expected to use colored pencils for your drawings. Colors should be appropriate to the time period.
5. And finally, in the spirit of the Renaissance, neatness does count. Best of Luck to You!
