Identify and describe the methods of exercise for an active, healthy lifestyle
Different MethodsThere are so many methods of staying fit and being helathy, we will look at some of these.
You have all chosen 4 activities that will contribute to being a healthy individual (GCSE practical activities)
You may also do some other activities to stay fitter or even get fit to do that activity e.g. A training programme or general fitness routine
We will look at some specific training programmes that you need to know:
For the exam
You must be able to describe the following methods and also give examples of them.
1. Circuit Training
Series of exercises that are called a circuit because the activity involves repetition of each activity.
The resistance for each exercise is normally your body weight and each exercise is designed to work a particular muscle or muscle group.
To do this effectively, no two muscle groups should be worked on one after the other e.g. Arm activity then leg activity etc...
Some exercise activities may be press ups, star jumps etc...Circuit training can also incorporate skills, for example
hockey players may include dribbling activities, flicking the ball etc...
2. Aerobics (body pump, spin and dance)
3. Aqua Aerobics
4. Yoga
5. Continuous Training
6. Pilates
Core stability training
This is training your back, abdominal and pelvic muscles.These are important for all sport.You can use machines, use weights or your body weight to
help with core strength.2 examples of exercises: ‘The Plank’ – lie on floor face down, hold a straight body,
elbows and toes, hold for up to 1 minute ‘The Side Plank’ – lie on one side, top hip above bottom hip,
straight body line, hold for up to 1 minute
