The report presents a most comprehensive research into the Russian polyethyleneterephthalate (PET) market, where the narrative recites important points (bullets) made by ouranalysts, while the annex presents all the statistical figures for the market that can ever begenerated. The report reflects key trends in the PET market by technology and sectors. It givesa great deal of attention to the analysis of investments in PET production and processing.

The report covers analysis of PET consumption, production, exports/imports in Russia brokendown by its types, processing technologies, consumers, manufacturers and their brands, aswell as business statistics of all the major actors in the market (producers, traders, equipmentsuppliers and processors) in each processing sector. All the data presented covers the period2007 to 2015. This being our exclusive highlight across CIS, we continue on our practice ofgiving ratings of sales of the main PET producers and suppliers. The report contains profiles ofmajor PET suppliers in Russia, as well as presents a rating of major PET processors. Thereport will also help you to find answers to the following questions:

· Despite an overall 8% drop in demand for PET (down to 547 ths tonnes) Russianmanufacturers have increased the production of granulate. PET imports went down55%, while, by contrast, some oversees suppliers have boosted their sales. What arethese companies?

· How much did each of the major Russian converters invest in PET processing in2015?

· Which of the new players will enter the PET processing market and what is theirpotential capacity?

· What will be the implications of the ban to bottle beer in plastic packaging for the PETmarket?

· Which were the main developments in the Russian PET market in 2015? How will theyimpact the market in the nearest feature?

· Market development forecast to 2025.

· How fundamental macroeconomic factors will affect the dynamics of the PET market in2015 and the year after? Which way the market will go?

· What were the reasons behind the shrinkage in consumption of PET preforms? Whatare the major preform consumption sectors?

· What drives the imports of Asian PET down and Russian PET granulate up? WhichPET grades saw sagging demand and which one enjoyed its growth?

· Current PET production capacities. Is construction of new PET production plantsfeasible? What are the prospects of the Etana project in Kabardino Balkariya? Whenwill SafPET deliver its project for Taneko?

· How does textile cluster in Ivanovo region develops, what are the investments?

· Who are TOP-20 converters in each sector?

· Which processing sector saw most investment inflow?

· The report presents data on the structure of the market for raw materials, productionand consumption by PET producers, as well as for paraxylene (PX), monoethyleneglycol (MEG) and terephthalic acid (PTA). What is the raw materials supply to supportfuture PET production projects?

Classification of Products

As a basic classification of products analyzed in the report, we used PET typesclassification, generally accepted in the world:

· PET – polyethyleneterephthalate, lavsan, viscosity characteristic in dichloroaceticacid, dl/g - 0,76-0,82;

· PET – flex – PET flakes recycling;

Customs duty

The total customs duty on PET imports for all FEACN codes of 390 760 group makes 5%.

Customs duty on PTA import is 5%.

Technology of processing

We consider technology as the primary method of polymer processing, which directly affectsthe volume of its consumption. For example, regranulation, also could be treated as atechnology of polymer processing, but it has only an indirect influence on the volume ofpolymer consumption, that is why it was not included in overall capacity analysis. Conclusions on consumption, for example, of PET for preforms IM, were made by volumecapacities, so-called PET primary processing, i.e., in this case, IM technology. We analyzedprocessing technology for which every PET grade is intended. We included the followinggenerally accepted technologies for PET processing:

· Film-extrusion (Cast) - PET film is a rigid material, designed generally for production ofthermoforming packaging. Its multiply structure is a perfect alternative of single-layeredPS, PP and PVC. Multiply layers of these materials allow to use production wastes asfeedstock for technical films production.

· Injection Molding - The technology is used for PET preforms production. A highlyviscous polyethyleneterephthalate is used here with viscosity from 0.78 to 0.82 dl/g.

· Extrusion Blow Molding (EBM) - The technology is used for blowing finished packagingout of heated PET preforms that is used for packing of carbonated drinks, beer, water, juice, milk and others.

· Yarns/Fibers. Polyester fibers are made of solution or hot melt of thin jet fiber-formingpolymer with its next solidification in the form of fibers (yarns, tows), with the help of set-stretching or other techniques.

It was quite difficult to evaluate clearly consumption by markets because of availability forFSU producers the grades, which can be used in several markets at the same time. Forexample, PET-flex can be used for the production of synthetic polyester yarns and fibers(mainly), as well as for the PET films production. Also, secondary polyethylene terephthalatecan be added to the primary granulate in the PET perform production, which savesfeedstock costs.

2. RUSSIAN PET MARKET

2.1. Current market situation (abstract)

· In 2015 the capacity of the PET market in Russia went down 8% against 2014 and made547 ths tonnes.

· At the same time, net of imported PET-flex and film grade granulate, last year theconsumption of bottle grade PET in Russia fell to 530 ths tonnes.

· The drop in demand for PET in 2015 was caused by the country’s deteriorating economicsituation, with a decreased preform consumption by the main sectors as a result. Thus, last year beer brewing followed the downward trend for for a second year in a row.According to Rosstat, in 2015 Russian brewers produced 782 mln dl of beer, whichrepresents a 5% drop in beer output as compared to 2014.

· Sparkling water production followed the declining trend. In 2015 the output of sparklingwater in Russia fell by 1% to make a total of 333 mln dl. By contrast, the bottled drinkingwater segment enjoyed continued growth. Today, this is the largest segment of PETpreform consumption. In 2015 drinking water production made 4695 mln half-liter bottles, almost 4% up from the last year figure.

·

·

·

·

·

·

· The output of PET bottled products in other sectors went down as well. Thus, productionof juices in Russia fell by 30%.

· Last year investments by Russian PET converters (preform moulding) in importedequipment slumped 68% to a total of USD8.86 against USD 27.6 a year earlier.

· 2015 saw a slack in Investment activity in the PET market. Nevertheless, despite thesignificant devaluation and overall slump in granulate consumption, there remaincompanies in Russia that import new lines and invest in expansion of their production.

· The list of companies that imported equipment in 2005 included the following: Alpla, APGEastern Europe, Ada-Uralplast, UMA-PET and others.

· Husky, the world leader in manufacturing of injection moulding machines, retained itsposition as the top equipment supplier to Russia. However, in 2015 the imports ofequipment from this producer decreased nearly tenfold. The total investment in Huskymachines in 2015 is estimated at USD1.26 mln.

· In addition, production lines were supplied to the Russian market by Netstal Maschinen,Sipa, Demark Machinery, Negri Bossi and others.

· According to the MRC data, total investment in the processing of PET preforms in Russiamade USD253.67 mln over the past ten years since 2005, with the peak of investmentactivity in the injection moulding lines in 2006, when investments in imported equipmentreached USD46.61 mln.

In 2015 PET market shrank by 8%.

NEW PROJECTS...

· The innovative textile and industrial cluster in Ivanovo region, which will involve setting-upa production of polyester fibres will raise RUB45 bln in investments for development, asreported by Pavel Konkov at the CCI congress centre (January 29, 2016).

· "The program of development of the innovative textile and industrial cluster in Ivanovoregion is planned to be implemented over 2016-2015. The total investment will makeabout RUB45 bln. The project will employ the cluster members' own and borrowed funds,as well as the funds from the federal, regional and local budgets," said P. Konkov.

· According to him, it is planned that by 2015 the cluster will have as many as 645members, and the volume of products made and sold by them will exceed a total ofRUB43 bln, where innovative goods will account for over RUB12.2 bln of this amount.

· "Currently, production of polyester staple fibre in Russia covers only 20% of the industryneeds, while industrial polyester yarns are not made in Russia. The demand for thisproduct is covered by imports, which offers an ideal opportunity for import substitution inthe market. This area is the most promising for development of textile and closingindustry," stressed the governor.

· "The prepared production areas in Ivanovo region include one public industrial parkRodniki, two private industrial parks Kineshma and Ivanovo-Voznesensk. In addition tothat, there is an industrial park in Vichuga being set up, work is under way to establish theKrasnaya Talka industrial and logistics park in the regional centre," said SvetlanaDavletova, Deputy Head of Government of Ivanovo Region.

Common information

New Reports

We are happy to present a new Annual Report, which, as we believe, is unique in the world practice. We spent nearly fouryears to develop a new format of our Annual Reports. We did our best to cut down the text part of the Report to save yourtime, and to present the most important considerations (bullets) generated independently by our analysts. We have begun to use hyperlinks that allow you to “travel” through the Report not being afraid of getting lost somewhere inthe great number of data and figures. You also could see the video of Russian top-managers inside of this Report.

How our reports differ from others

You probably have already got used to our Annual reports, and you remember that they differ from similar products in themost comprehensive coverage of data. However, for the recent two years we have been observing an increasing pressure onthe part of “analysts” who have been spreading data on the CIS polymers market being fully confident that, having offeredgeneral figures out of customs databases, they would get a comprehensive analysis of the market. To waive any questions as to the quality of our data, MRC’s specialists developed conceptually new annual analytical reports, which, as we believe, are unique in the world practice. We have been working hardly for four years to create a brand-newformat of annual reports. The slogan of our new annual reports is “As detailed as it can be”. The point is that this is probablyfor the first time in the world practice when a polymer market of a single country is described so minutely.

Information system used to prepare our Reports

Today, we use about 120 directories that, for example, include:- 26 polymers processing technologies and associated products- 66 processing sectors of polymers and associated products- 240 types of finished goods made of polymers- 4025 grades of polymers (8 analysis aspects)- 165 producers of polymers (5 analysis aspects)- 2560 brands of equipment (analysis by 6 parameters, including output capacity of each line), operated by domesticconverters since 2000;- 450 world equipment manufacturers, whose equipment has been used by domestic converters since 2000;- all postal codes in the Russian Federation (to define postal addresses of each company in our Report);- financial and production figures by nearly 20 thousand companies (converters, traders and other firms), working in the CISpolymers market, by more than 20 activity categories (see also PlastGuide Project).

Data Analysis draws up reports automatically

Today, absolutely all diagrams and tables in our annual reports are being made automatically. Each analyst of MRC uses thesoftware product “MRC: Data Analysis”, which helps draw up data for an annual report within a few minutes. The softwarehas been developed by the team of MRC’s specialists under the general direction of Professor Basmanov E.A., Doctor ofEngineering Science.Today, Data Analysis includes uniform processing of all fragmented data, which are used to understand operations of eachconverter in every single market of polymers. Generally, before presenting our conclusions in the annual report, our analystsdo a lot of work in the course of the year and, nearly every day, they process the following data:- production of polymers by each polymer grade of each domestic producer;- production of finished goods made of polymers by each producer, as well as by type of finished goods, sector andprocessing technology;- import of finished goods made of polymers by each foreign producer, each type of finished goods, sector and processingtechnology;- export of finished goods made of polymers by each exporter, each domestic converter, by each type of finished goods, sector and processing technology;- import of polymers by each foreign producer, each domestic trader, converter, processing technology, processing sector, type of finished goods, type and grade of polymer;- export of polymers by each domestic producer, domestic trader, polymer type, and polymer grade;- carriage by rail by each domestic producer, domestic trader, converter, type of polymer, grade of polymer, processingtechnology, processing sector and type of finished goods;- import of equipment to produce finished polymer goods by each brand of equipment, each equipment producer, domesticconverter, processing technology, processing sector and (if possible) each type of finished goods;- ownership of each converter to determine associated companies; if needed, to regard a converter as a group of companies;- financial indicators, of both an individual converter and his affiliated structures;- operations with key suppliers of raw materials and supplies.
