Strategic Workforce Planner 2014 - PresentMinistry of Defence

Responsibilities:- Delivery of strategic future workforce planning for new Royal Navy ships and equipment.- Development of modelling to enable efficient and effective workforce transition to new establish-ments.- Identification of solutions for effective talent management and succession planning.- Negotiating and influencing key stakeholders to balance the requirement for headcount savings against the need to guarantee operational performance and ensure realistic workloads.

Achievements:- Development of manning solution and transition plan for two new classes of ship.- Influenced the development of the concept of operations for the ships. - Delivered a pilot programme on transition and succession planning for a workforce of 2800.

Senior Strategic Planner 2011 – 2014Ministry of Defence

Responsibilities:- Provided direct support to the head of the Royal Navy in directing strategic planning.- Contributed to planning for the Ministry of Defence’s Strategic Defence Review.- Developed strategic engagement and influence plan in support of Royal Navy vision.

Achievements:- Developed a plan to generate a compelling Maritime argument in advance of the next Strategic Defence and Security Review. The plan was presented and endorsed at Royal Navy Board level.- Led the Head of the Royal Navy’s input into the Defence Reform process.- Coordinated the outputs of the Navy Strategy team in the Ministry of Defence.

Responsibilities:- Operational planning and Intelligence.

- Force Protection policy for Royal Naval ships and submarines.

- Coordination of change programmes.

Achievements:- Initiated the development of a new programme plan in a US led multi-national headquarters.

- Delivered new operating procedures and a 28% headcount reduction in a Division in the Royal Navy Headquarters.

- Developed the military intelligence architecture to support operations in Afghanistan and revised the UK based intelligence division at the Permanent Joint Headquarters to support that.

Early Career 1980 - 2004Ministry of Defence

Following successful completion of Royal Navy officer training at Britannia Royal Naval College, undertook a series of progressive leadership and technical posts at sea including programming and running at sea a 7 month, 25 ship, deployment to 31. Following a Command appointment he served in the US Embassy in Washington liaising on intelligence systems. On return to the UK he was responsible for procurement of passive sensors for the Royal Navy before becoming the pro-gramme officer for the main missile system of the T45 Air Defence Destroyer.
