Matthew's take... "The story on the label reads that One Chain is 22 yards - the length of a cricket pitch. And while the cricket themed label seems to suggest this wine tastes like an Ashes-style contest between the Shiraz and Cabernet grapes in the bottle, it is a model of harmony and content! One Chain exemplifies good sportsmanship given that it is genial, composed and also well drilled on the perfume and palate."

Where's it from? This wine blends parcels of fruit from some of the most established regions of South Australia, including the regions of Barossa, McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek.

Great with... We could get all imaginative about this pairing, but looking no further than a succulent steak grilled on the BBQ.

Vitis Vitae NVVitis Vitae NV

Matthew's take... "This rather crazy wine is made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tannat and Bovale. With a serious amount of intense juiciness, this deep red is packed with dark chocolate and plum notes and it is amazingly plush, too. Vitis Vitae tastes worthy, deep and satisfying, so it certainly lives up to its translation, the 'vine of life'!"

Where's it from? Made from a blend of grapes, some sourced from the cool climate of Veneto in northern Italy and others from the sun-drenched island of Sardinia.

Winemaker’s words... "This wine has a complex nose of concentrated ripe fruits and a great structure on the palate, but at the same time it is lean with an elegant balsamic undertone to the finish."

Great with... This rich, velvety red with flavours of dried fruits will go beautifully with braised meat dishes or a platter of mature cheeses.

De Martino Tinto Chileno De Martino Tinto Chileno Cinsault Pais 2015Cinsault Pais 2015

Matthew's take... "A fascinating and curious wine made from old vines of Cinsault, a workhorse red grape from the South of France, and País, once Chile’s most widely planted grape. With a light colour you might expect it to be a dilute and frail wine, but there is a remarkable punch of fruit and power on the palate. With serious class and distinction, it is great to see De Martino celebrating this historic style of red."

Where's it from? The Itata Valley lies in the southern end of Chile's long, thin wine producing zone. It is characterised by a cool climate and small-scale, traditional winemaking using grapes such as País, Carignan and Muscat.

Great with... The vibrant berry fruits and delicate coffee undertones in this Chilean red would be a great match to game dishes such as pan-fried duck.

Winemaker’s words... "I have a real fondness of País. We saved these venerable old vines from extinction in the Itata Valley, and have used some of the grapes in this blend along with Cinsault."

Trabajemos Organic Mezcla Trabajemos Organic Mezcla Tinta 2018Tinta 2018

Matthew's take... "When I first tasted Trabajemos, I wrote the single word Enigma! Much like the German musical project’s 1990 international hit single ‘Sadeness (Part I)’ this is a harmonious wine with an earnest, melodic feel. It is calm and worthy, but also honest and rather catchy! It is a body-popping Sean Connery in The Name of the Rose and I think I like it a lot. I pray you do, too."

Where's it from? La Mancha is a truly exciting region for discovering great Spanish wines! Home of a modern-day winemaking revolution, wineries like this are producing wines with great class, character and interest.

Great with... A seriously versatile, moreish red - it'll stand up to BBQs, roasted or smoked meats, pizza, or even Moroccan stews.
