n a few months, it will be 25 years since the day in 1985 when Peter Rolfe first walked into J. Todd Galleries, carrying a few of his original oil paint-

ings and wanting to discuss representa-tion in the gallery. He had heard of us through one of his loyal collectors—who was also a loyal J. Todd customer. Phyllis and i were immediately taken with his work, and the discussion soon turned to talk of a one-man show for the following year!

At the time, Peter had been trying to keep his creativity peaked while run-ning the day-to-day affairs of his own small gallery in maine—an almost im-possible feat. Being so tied to his gal-lery, it was next to impossible for him to travel outside of his immediate area to find subject matter for his work. But the 1986 show in Wellesley changed everything. it was a sell-out show, and Peter soon closed up shop and concen-trated only on painting. That show was followed by annual sell-out shows for several years!

Fast-forwarding to 2009-2010, we look back upon 25 years of his illustrious 38-year-long paint-ing career. During those years, Peter became free to travel extensively in the U.s., mexico and europe in search of great material, which he is so skilled at finding. He also had more time to study the mas-ters and to continue to hone his craft, using those skills to capture his discoveries on canvas as only he can. He did this tirelessly, stunning his collec-tors with better work at every successive exhibit—and this may be the most stunning one of all!

Today, Peter is one of America’s most sought-af-ter impressionist painters, having collectors from

six continents and all 50 states. many corporate and institutional collectors have also acquired his work, including Bank of Boston (now Bank of America), Genzyme, Harvard University, Citgo Petroleum, sirios Capital management, Ameri-can medical Response and Bentley College to name just a few.

When you attend a Rolfe exhibit (now every two years), you see and feel the “sparkle” and positive energy that only Peter can inject into his images. And you witness history in the mak-ing, close up. We invite you to participate in the festivities, to meet the artist and to see first hand what makes his work so famous! –Bob Totaro
