The best Italian wineries land in Saint PetersburgGambero Rosso Top Italian Wines Roadshow meets Russia

Gambero Rosso, the leading Italian wine & food media company, is ready to come back to Saint Petersburg with a unique tasting of premium Italian wines. The event is scheduled on Wednesday November 27 at Beggroff Palace. The press conference will take place at 2 pm with the awards ceremony of the Top Italian Restaurants in town. The walk-around tasting will start at 1:00 pm till 7 pm, including over sixty top Italian wineries and more than 250 wines to taste. The program will feature 4 masterclasses guided by Marco Sabellico, Senior Editor of Vini d’Italia guidebook and Lorenzo Ruggeri, International Editor of Gambero Rosso.

Since 2007, the Top Italian Wines Roadshow has become a winning platform for promoting the biodiversity of Italian wine that can count on an incredible heritage of 1000 native grape varieties. The Roadshow 2019/2020 is charged with news, with an itinerary that will explore some of the most exciting markets for Italian wine. After St. Petersburg, the Roadshow will meet Mexico City, Miami, Calgary, Vancouver. The goodbye will be in Ho Chi Minh City, on May 22, that will close the thirteenth edition of the tour.

Italy produced 55 million hectoliters of wine in 2018, about 20 million hectoliters were sold abroad. Italian wine export reached the record amount of 6.2 billion euros, up 3,3% in 2018 and has increased by 70% over the last decade. Italian wine exports in Russia increased by 4,5% in 2018 with a brilliant performance of the sparkling sector. Italian wine is keeping a solid growth in Russia, especially thanks to the strong popularity of Cucina Italiana and the allure of Italian lifestyle. With 264 million euros of sales in 2018, Italian wine holds the leading position in Russia with a 29.5% market share.

Chianti DOCG, the most popular Tuscan red The Chianti DOCG accounts for 60% of the wine produced every year in Tuscany. This everyday luxury is produced in a vast area which covers about 14,000 hectares by more than 3,500 estates located in the provinces of Arezzo, Florence, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato and Siena. The soul of Chianti is the Sangiovese grape, each bottle of Chianti DOCG must contain from 70% to 100% of Sangiovese. According to the area of production, there are 7 kinds of Chianti DOCG which share a common versatility on the table, and a dangerous drinkability. During the event, the Consortium is going to offer a tasting corner showcasing an extensive variety of wines, from the crispy ones to the more structured ones. About Vini d’Italia 2020Gambero Rosso has reached the 33rd edition of the Vini d’Italia guide, today translated into English, German, Chinese and Japanese. Vini d’Italia guide is the result of a year of work by an expert team of tasters who have travelled the country (including Switzerland’s Canton Ticino) interviewing producers and visiting wineries. The guide reviews 2,542 wineries and a total of 22,586 wines, awarding the classic scores ranging from 1 to 3 Glasses according to the quality of the label. This year, the record number of 457 Tre Bicchieri have emerged: Tuscany leads the way with 89 awards.

About Top Italian RestaurantsThe quality of the “cucina italiana” abroad has reached a new level. Gambero Rosso has released the third edition of the digital guide to Italian restaurants around the world.
