A very good morning to all of you.

On behalf of the organising committee we are pleased to welcome you to the 2015 Petronas MLNG Bintulu Regional Choral Speaking Competition for Primary and Secondary .

Ladies and gentlemen, as you know, all the schools, teachers and students in Bintulu are quite busy with various activities and competitions in these few weeks. So, this is the least that we could do as preparation for this competition. We would like to apologize in advance for any shortcomings and inconveniences encountered during this competition.

Allow me to introduce to all of you the 8 judges for today’s competition. I would like to apologize in advance if I happen to pronounce your names wrongly.

To make sure that this competition will flow smoothly allow me to read to you the competition rules:

This competition is divided into 2 categories which are primary school and secondary school.

This competition is open to pupils of government-aided schools from Year 4 to Year 6 only.

Year 3 students are allowed to participate if they are from under-enrolled schools.

Each choral speaking team comprises of members from the same school.

For primary school category, each team is given a presentation time limit of 5 to 8 minutes. Marks will be deducted thereafter.

For the secondary school category, each team is given a presentation time limit of 8 to 10 minutes. Marks will be deducted thereafter.

Each team should comprise 30 to 35 pupils or students. A conductor should be appointed amongst these pupils or students.

Each team should be accompanied by 4 teachers –in-charge.

Selection of texts may be in form of poetry or short prose. Texts should preferably be original and authentic.

Adapted texts including those from previous years should be acknowledged by citing the source.

Participants are not allowed to refer to any notes or printed materials during the presentation.

Materials presented must not touch on sensitive issues, such as race, religion stereotyping, politics and etc.

Copies of choral speaking texts must be submitted to the organisers two weeks prior to the competition.

All participations should be in school uniform when competing.

The conductor may use gloves.

There should be no inclusion of music, drama, costume, props or artificial sound effect.

Any inclusion of singing, skit or physical movement should enhance and not dominate the presentation.

The arrangement of the teams on the stage will be in fixed 3 tiered rows.

This Bintulu Regional Level competition will be judged by 8 judges.

The best conductor should be judged by a separate panel of 3 judges.

The judges are appointed by the Division of Co-Curricullum and Arts , Ministry of Education.

Points will be awarded according to the scoresheet.

Judges will collectively determine the placing by clear majority vote.

The decision of the judges is final.

Individual team marks will not be disclosed.

Plaques and certificates will be awarded to the winning teams.

Certificate of participation will be awarded to all participating teams.
