Pg 2 | Fourth Sunday of Lent March 22, 2020

Dear Corpus Christi Family, What a couple of weeks. Not that long ago, schools operated normal-ly, professional sports went on as usual, and our city’s rodeo was in full swing. All of us were tracking this virus that was impacting the world. Who had ever heard of Wujan Province in China where this new respiratory virus was first identified? And now, its impact has grown swiftly to where our daily routines have been dramatically affected, first large gatherings of people and now, no more than 10 people at a time are to assemble together.

This has turned out to be an unexpected Lent.

As you have already heard, starting last Wednesday, March 18, 2020, all Masses – Sunday and weekday, and all activities in parishes are sus-pended. Churches may remain open for private prayer. Please check the website for days and times we are open.

During this unexpected time of caution, while very difficult and trying, especially without being able to receive Jesus in the Eucharist and to come together as a Church, you may have found some unexpected blessings. One of them may be having more time at home with your family. You may have said to yourself in the past “if I had more time”. The current situation we’re in has given many of us some more time.

As we find ourselves spending more time in isolation and in our efforts to protect the most vulnerable of our society, I hope we take the opportunity to listen to God’s voice. We may be surprised at what we hear. I also encourage you to check in on your elderly or homebound neighbors. They may need help picking up groceries or just someone to talk to. Let us pray “for all who are sick, as well as doctors, nurses, caregiv-ers, and all those working hard to combat the disease. We should also remember those whose lives have been otherwise disrupted, especially anyone who has lost income from a loss of work during this difficult time.”

This is a good time to be more charitable, to fast and pray without ceasing! Pray especially for those countries that have been affected the most. Pray for Pope Francis, Cardinal DiNardo, the bishops and all of our religious and government leaders as they deliberate on how to best safeguard and protect the health of those under their care.

There are opportunities to watch televised and online daily Masses, please see the link on our website. We are working on options for live streaming of Mass from Corpus Christi church and will update via email and website when we know more.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will communicate any further changes as decisions are made. Please check your emails and our website for updates and contact us if you have questions or ideas.

May the Lord bless our Lenten journeys,

Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston Prayer in the

Time of the Coronavirus Comfort us, O Lord, for we are like

your disciples on the storm-tossed

seas, unsettled by what lies ahead.

We turn to You, our Healer and

Guide, to still our hearts in our

time of need and hear our prayer:

Heal those who are sick with the

coronavirus and protect the

elderly and most vulnerable.

Give strength to all who tend to

our health and wisdom to

researchers who work toward a

cure. Open our eyes and hearts, as

you did during Hurricane Harvey,

that we may look beyond our

immediate needs to care for

others who need help.

Through the Holy Spirit, guide

our leaders to make wise decisions

for the welfare of all the people

they serve.

Grant eternal rest to those who

have died from the virus.

May Mary, Our Mother, who has

heard our pleas in the storms of

our lives, intercede to her Son,

that we may find healing and a

prompt end to this illness.

Mary, Star of the Sea, pray for us.

Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior,

heal us. Amen.

Pg 4 | Fourth Sunday of Lent March 22, 2020

guntas o ideas.

¿Que el Señor bendiga nuestros viajes cuaresmales,

El p. Tom, SSS
