About the Programme

Food safety is a fundamental public health concern. The Food Safety and Quality has become an area of priority and necessity for consumers, retailers,manufacturers and regulators. Eligibility Requirements

Science Graduates with Chemistry/ Bio­chemistry or Microbiology as one of the subjects.Degree in allied sciences like Agriculture/ Food Science and Technology/ Post Harvest Technology/ Home Science/ Life Science/Microbiology/Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Horticulture/ Dairy Technology/ Veterinary/ Fisheries/ Hotel Management and Catering/ HospitalityManagement etc. or equivalent.Science graduates in disciplines like Geography, Statistics with Physics & Math, Art Subjects and Medical Lab technology and with minimum threeyears experience in food processing and /or quality control. (minimum 1 year experience).Art Graduates with diploma in Food Science disciplines viz. Fruits and vegetables, dairy technology, meat technology, cereal, pulses and oilseedsetc. with minimum 5 years experience in Food Processing/Food Quality Control (2 years experience in quality control).B.A./B.Com Graduates with minimum 7 years experience or holding senior position in Govt./Semi Govt. Student Support Activities

Learning Material: The printed study material is sent to the registered students at home by post.Audio­visual learning aids: The learning package also contains audio and video cassettes and CDs which have been produced by the University. A videoprogramme is usually of 25­30 minutes duration. These programmes can be heard/viewed at the study centre during specific sessions, or purchased for useat home.Counselling: Counselling sessions are held according to a schedule drawn up by the study centre coordinator, usually during weekends.TV counselling and Tele­conferencing: Through Gyan Darshan Channels and EduSat. One Gyan Darshan channel is available on DTH platform.Radio Counselling: Through phone­in programmes on AIR and Gyan Vani.*1 credit = 30 hours of student’s study time

Online Platform

The PG Diploma in Food safety and Quality Management shall be available online on the SAFE (Safe and Assured Foods E­learning ) Platform. It is acomplete virtual learning environment suite covering all the activities from registration to certification. The following features shall be available to theregistered students.

1. Walk in admission: The Programme shall be offered in July cycle in the beginning. The applications received through by post at the concernedRegional Centres and through online by 30th April or the date announced by the University shall be considered for Admission to July cycle.Registration form on the online platform has the facility of uploading scanned certificates, other required documents and photograph. Registrationwill be confirmed only after verification of the certificates and payment of the required admission fee. Facility for online payment shall be availablethrough the payment gateway (AXIS Bank) being offered by the University for online programmes.

Towards this end we request you to register for programme on online platform (www.ignouonline.ac.in/safe). You are requested to go to abovewebsite and click on “How to Register” then select PGDFSQM and press ‘click here’. After this select the user type ‘Student’ in the drop down listand submit the same. Now select the Payment Mode and select the Programme Name and then create your Login ID and Password notedown/remember your ID and Password created by you as it will be required for accessing the online study material and other features. After thatonline application form is now open you will be fill the form carefully and submit the same with all the details mentioned in this form.

2. Integrated multimedia courseware once registered, learners will have access to personalized learning space (My Page). This includes selfinstructional material, related audio/ video, slides, self check exercises, etc. weaved in one platform.

3. Online counselling and mentoring – web cast based counselling integrated with text based chatting facility shall be used for counselling purposes.4. Learner support: Asynchronous and synchronous modes of interaction will be used to provide just in time support to learners.5. Online Project platform: Templates shall be made available for synopsis submission, project uploading and evaluation. Viva voce will be

conducted through web based video conferencing tool.6. Online Term End Examination­ Online examinations will be conducted in specified centres for in proctored environment.
