    PGP-ABM FINAL PLACEMENTS 2012

    IIM AHMEDABAD

    Today the students of IIM-Ahmedabads Post Graduate Program in Agribusiness Managements

    Batch of 2012 graduate and take the next step in their careers. Established to transform

    dynamic and determined men and women into tomorrows leaders and decision makers in the

    food, rural, developmental, and allied sectors, IIM-Ahmedabads PGP-ABM program is firmly

    rooted in IIM-As management culture and philosophy. In acknowledgement of the programs

    success in producing the finest managerial talent in the agribusiness domain, the PGP-ABM

    program was ranked as the number 1 masters program in the food/agribusiness sector

    internationally by Eduniversal in 2011.

    The final placements for the Batch of 2012 were conducted in February 2012 and saw a variety

    of roles offered across sub-sectors including Seeds, Fertilizers, Pesticides, Global Supply Chain

    Management, Retail, Corporate Banking, Food & Agribusiness Research and Advisory, FMCG,

    Logistics and Warehousing Management, Agricultural Machinery, Rural Banking, Agricultural

    Research, Education, Rural Development, and Consulting.

    A total of 31 companies participated in the placement process this year, making 52 offers to the

    37 students in the placement process. One student opted out of the placement process to start

    an entrepreneurial venture, and two others accepted placements off campus. The batch

    attracted a diverse pool of recruiters, ranging from MNCs to small and medium enterprises

    (SMEs) as well as notable start-ups.

    Showing their confidence in the students and the PGP-ABM Program, Godrej Agrovet and

    Monsanto India made two Pre-Placement Offers, both offering roles related to Marketing and

    Sales Management. Additionally, Godrej Agrovet, Britannia, and TATA Rallis offered a total of 4Pre-Placement Interviews (PPIs) among them.

    Syngenta made five offers and became the largest recruiter from the program, offering roles in

    Marketing and Strategy. Company officials expressed their delight at the quality and calibre of

    all the students of the program. Among other top recruiters, IFTRA, Yes Bank, and Coromandel

    International each made four offers in roles related to Strategy, Marketing, Business

    Development, and General Management. Lemken, a first time recruiter offered senior roles in

    strategy with responsibilities in both Indian and International markets. Other notable first time

    recruiters included Vector Consulting Group, StarAgri, PI Industries, and New Holland

    Agriculture. Regular recruiters Rabobank, Heinz, Marico, Britannia, and Bayer Crop Science also

    participated in the placement process. Through a lateral placement process, several studentswith prior work experience accepted lateral placement offers from TAFE for roles related to

    Demand Forecasting and Planning, and Product Management. Students from the program also

    went to Dudhsagar Dairy, Intellecap, iDiscoveri, and Perfect Relations.

    Two candidates took up International roles offered by IFTRA and Olam International in the

    African Subcontinent. One student will be joining directly at the post of Country Manager in an

    African nation. Both the roles provide significant levels of challenge, responsibility, and

    opportunity.

    With the support of Professor Anil Gupta of the Honeybee Network, one student will be a partof India ka Idea Pvt. Ltd., a JV between the National Innovat ion Foundation and the Future

    Group. This new company aims to generate knowledge and an innovation based model for

    exploiting global and domestic opportunities for green grassroots innovations sourced through

    the Honey Bee Network for improving quality of life, generating extremely affordable solutions

    and sustaining the creative spirit among the masses.

    In the batch of forty, one student, who has already rejected an offer, is still in the process. He is

    in pursuit of a role better suited to his specific preferences. The placement office continues to

    facilitate interaction with firms for this student, in order to ensure that he can start his career in

    his area of interest.

    The PGP-ABM program will release the placement statistics within 3 months of convocation.

    IIM Ahmedabad follows a Placement Reporting Standard that it pioneered last year, and the

    institute is presently collating all the placements related statistics as per these standards. A

    detailed report will be published after the completion of the audit process by external agency

    CRISIL.

    The PGP-ABM Recruitment Secretary, Karan Kabra said, To ensure the best possible recruiter-

    student fit, our objective was to place the students in their preferred companies. As a fitting

    result of our objectives and efforts, close to 70% of PGP-ABM students got into their respective

    top 2 preferred companies.
