How Pharma Can Give Back

“That’s great.
But what are you doing for humanity?”
-Jerry
This is my neighbor, Jerry Doolittle, who congratulated me on having great eSampling software, but challenged me
to think about how to use the software to really help people.

President Carter Jerry
Jerry worked for President Carter, who instilled the need to focus on humanitarian causes in Jerry, who
passed that need on to me.Monday, November 21, 11
What do we have to give?
We have eSampling software.
We have expertise.
We want to do good.
We took a look in the mirror and thought about what we have to give and what we are trying to accomplish.

The idea suddenly came together in my head and I knew exactly how we were going to make a
difference.
How Did I Start?

Two Major ThingsWe Wanted to Do
• Get samples/product in the hands of Americans who need it, but can’t afford it(36.1 million)
• Reduce pharma waste (200 million lbs. annually)*
*Zero Waste Pittsburgh

The PharmaCares Mission
To help underserved U.S. patient populationsgain access to prescription and OTC medicines and
information while mitigating the waste and cost associated with surplus or expired product.
Good for patients, pharma and our planet.

So, What is It?• Not-for-profit concept.• Electronic closet that stocks surplus,
short-dated Rx and OTC medications, ancillary supplies and patient literature for physician led charitable organizations.

What’s Different?• Focus is connecting pharma
companies & their products to Americans in need.
• Very little aid going to Americans from American companies, 0 - 5%.
• Recipient organizations choose what they need from an industry wide closet.
• Secure, Web based program• Paperless transactions
There are companies with similar ideas, but they focus more
overseas, the programs don’t
allow much choice regarding what
they receive and are paper based.
