At Burmester we have always been interested in cars, and as a result we were delighted to accept the challenge to fit a high-end sound system into one. After the successful debut of the Burmester sound system in the Bugatti Veyron, we were able to acquire other renowned partners with Porsche and Mercedes-Benz. The experiences, the challenges and the exciting cooperation in the context of these three projects have enabled us to set new global standards for the automotive industry. Most of us spend quite a lot of time in our cars. More perhaps than we spend in our living rooms back home. And for many people the car has become a kind of mobile retreat, a place where they can forget about their cares and anxieties, at least for a time. That is why drivers increasingly appreciate a comfortable and leisurely ambience in their cars. The sound of music can signifi-cantly contribute to making driving a far more pleasant experience. And music is no longer simply some kind of background noise: it is becoming an emotional event in its own right. Intense research and development have made it possible to transfer Burmester’s long experience of providing high-end sound for the living room to the automotive industry. Listening to music in the car is no longer a compromise affair. Burmester sound systems now make it possible to enjoy the warm, natural and full-bodied Burmester sound in cars as well.

»It is the best car hifithat this author has ever heard – and that expressly includessystems which are five times as pricey.«

The sound from Weissach is being enhanced from Berlin. By Burmester. Since the intro-duction of the Burmester High-End Surround Sound-System at the time the first genera-tion of the Porsche Panamera was launched, it has been the benchmark for factory-instal-led integrated car hifi systems. This status was successfully defended in the next projects, the Porsche Cayenne, the Porsche 911 iconic sports car, the Porsche Boxster and Porsche Cayman, as well as in the Porsche Macan

In the case of the Bugatti EB 16.4 Veyron Burmester and the Bugatti engineers designed a superlative sound system as this out-of-the- ordinary car called for out-of-the-ordinary ideas, also for listening to music.

»When two visionary companies that passionately follow their ideas come together, the result is something very special. Together, we have taken the art of engineering to a new level and created a perfect synergy: a car sound system with a clear mission – to be the very best there is«, Dieter Burmester explained the partnership with Mercedes-Benz.

With the new Mercedes-AMG GT the sports car brand of Mercedes-Benz aims to set new standards in a highly competitive segment, and here again their motto is: the best or nothing. For this reason the Mercedes-AMG GT offers even two optional Burmester Sur-round Systems to pick from – and thus for the first time Burmester sound in an AMG.

The Mercedes-Maybach S-class demon- strates the fusion of the Mercedes-Benz S-class perfection with the exclusivity of Maybach. For this very special luxury limousine Burmester has developed two extraordinary audio systems high-lighting the superior character of this outstanding automobile.

and the super sports car Porsche 918 Spyder. Intense research and development have made it possible to transfer Burmester’s long experi-ence of providing high-end sound for the living room to the automotive industry. The use of materials found in Burmester high-end systems certainly injects some »Burmester DNA« into the vehicle, which is now filled with a full-bo-died, warm and detail-rich sound. Listening to music in the car is no longer a compromise affair.

  • Since 1994 Burmester Audiosysteme has been making loudspeakers that are able to fill a listening space with an impressive sound and conjure up a three-dimensional musical experience for the listener. Instruments sound remarkably true to life and whatever the volume, the sound is always smooth and perfectly balanced. We use bass reflex cabinets for the dynamic and uncompressed rendition of bass notes. They enhance the lower registers and at the same time minimize distortion. Column loudspeakers of the B-Series owe their slim appearance to the fact that the bass speakers are fitted into the side. We run in every loudspeaker chassis for seven days before proceeding to the assembly stage. The parameters are measured, and the computer puts together pairs with extremely close tolerance levels. Only identical stereo loudspeakers can create a perfect three-dimensional soundscape.

    Ambience Loudspeakers

For lovers of omnidirectional loudspeakers the rear side of the enclosure has been fitted with a second identical AMT tweeter to optimize the omnidirectional behavior and incorporate the listening room to a greater extent into the sonic experience. The back-firing Ambience tweeter can be adjusted to your personal preferences, requirements of the listening room acoustics or turned off completely. It helps to render the imaginary stage wider and deeper, as can normally be achieved only with omnidirectional or dipole speakers, yet in the Burmester Ambience Loud-speakers it is at the same time also variable.

    BA71 Loudspeaker

    BA31 Loudspeaker

With the Ambience BA71 Burmester created a loudspeaker that combines striking sound with highest musical fidelity and almost unlimited power reserves. Its fundamen-tal bass power despite its lean and elegant appearance is due to the separation of the bass diaphragm into four identical, compact bass drivers, which are energetically supported in the lowest registers by a bass reflex port. Two mid range drivers in a sealed compartment for each speaker provide well-balanced, tonally correct sound up to the treble register for which a new Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeter has been custom developed. However, what really sets this speaker apart is its adapt-ability to different rooms and listening tastes. An additional, rear-firing ambience tweeter can be infinitely adjusted to adapt the sound to individual tastes or listening room acous-tics. It opens up the width and depth of the soundstage in a way that heretofore seemed possible only with omnidirectional or dipole speakers. However, with Burmester’s Ambi-ence loudspeakers this phenomenon is not only achievable but also adjustable.Technical specifications p.104

The Burmester Ambience BA31 loudspeaker is a derivative of the larger BA71, which has excited audiophiles with its outstanding musicality and its ability to project almost unlimited sonic power. Of course, the BA31 profits all around from advances and inno-vations in the development of its larger sibling. Its well-balanced 2 ½ -way design shines with the reproduction of deep bass, excellent speech resolution and great clarity in musical details. The BA31, too, offers a rear-firing ambience tweeter, which can be used to adjust the sound to individual tastes or to the requirements of the listening room. It can also be switched off. It opens up the width and depth of the soundstage in a way that heretofore seemed possible only with omnidirectional or dipole speakers. However, with Burmester’s Ambience loudspeakers this phenomenon is not only achievable but also adjustable.Technical specifications p.104

    Loudspeakers

Loudspeakers that appeal even to musicians Musicians are the most critical of listeners. In their opinion, our loudspeakers literally seem to explode when large orchestras play suitably loud passages, not to mention the fact that the various instruments sound remarkably true to life.

Loudspeakers which give you all the notesOur loudspeakers reproduce all the audible octaves right down to the lowest bass notes. The low frequencies are the ones which convey a sense of mighty orchestral power and generate true emotion.

Loudspeakers for quiet listeningOur loudspeakers are constructed in such a way that even if you turn the volume down, the sound is always smooth, with the correct tonal balance.

Loudspeakers for loud musicOur loudspeakers enable you to listen to very loud music. However, they are still as precise as ever and never become strained.

Loudspeakers with an attractive designThe appearance of a loudspeaker should fit in with and enhance the interior design of your home. This presup-poses design perfection and the use of high-quality materials.

    B100Loudspeaker

The B100 Loudspeaker is an impressive audiophile statement in every respect. As the largest speaker in the present Burmester portfolio it is the magic door into the realm of unfettered musical enjoyment. Whether you listen to intimate chamber music, a live jazz performance or explosive hard rock – the B100 speaker never lets you miss a note, a nuance or a beat. Particularly impressive are its homogeneous and powerful sound repro-duction over the full audio spectrum while at the same time conveying the finest detail and airiness of live music.Technical specifications p.104

    B80 MK2 Loudspeaker

The B80 Loudspeaker is in its second stage of development. It is visually and acoustically closely related to Burmester’s B100. Our goals in developing the B80 have been to create a sonically outstanding speaker in a beautiful shape that easily fits into any home ambi-ence despite its considerable size. A magne-tostatic ribbon tweeter with upgraded sound radiation control provides the B80 MK2 loudspeaker with extended, finely delineated highs. Two side-mounted woofers with stable glass fiber diaphragms, extended throw and powerful magnets endow the speaker with deep yet tightly controlled bass reproduction. The mid-range drivers have been modified to Burmester’s specifications to convey every musical nuance in the all-important middle of the musical spectrum.Technical specifications p.104

    961 MK3 Loudspeaker

Despite its moderate size the 961 MK3 Loud-speaker surprises with a huge sound stage and impressive power level stability. The almost perfect spatial imaging puts voices floating in the middle and fills the listening room with music of the highest audiophile quality. Precision in the lowest registers is the strength of the woofers, equipped with glass fiber cones. The lightweight Kevlar cone of the mid-range driver offers convincing detail, openness and musical transparency. An Air Motion Transformer (AMT) provides quick and precise highs.Technical specifications p.104

    B18Loudspeaker

The B18 Loudspeaker has been developed as a 2½-way bass reflex speaker with a front-fi-ring design and is an universal sound talent: space-saving, yet at the same time extre-mely musical and dynamically thrilling. The high-frequency reproduction benefits from the ring radiator which is custom-made for Burmester and guarantees optimum clarity and resolution. The low-mid and mid-low drivers are a derivative on the basis of the proven chassis which has already earned the B10 compact speaker an impressive sound performance. The highly complex frequency crossover sits in an isolated enclosure chamber, just like the low-mid driver whose own sealed compart-ment yields an outstandingly clean mid-fre-quency performance. A fully re-designed, computerized spring-mass damping system ensures an optimum decoupling of the speaker and thus makes it extremely resistant to floor vibrations. Supported by the cabinet, which has been optimized using FEM analysis, the massive and particularly torsion-resistant alu-minum-MDF sandwich front delivers an accurate, precise bass and reduces cabinet resonances significantly.

    B10Loudspeaker

    S8Subwoofer

The original purpose of the B10 Loudspeaker was to serve as a near-field monitor in Dieter Burmester’s private recording studio. Its out-standing performance, however, moved Burmester to integrate the B10 into the port-folio as a compact shelf speaker with small space demand and big sound that can be placed almost anywhere. The development of the B10 profited from the experience gained in designing sound systems in the automotive field and from cooperation with an auto-motive supplier. The result is an extremely precise driver for bass and mid-range with a resin-coated glass fiber cone, which showed the best transient response. In addition, a unique tweeter with ring-shaped diaphragm for high-frequency reproduction has been developed, which is now also used in automo-tive applications.Technical specifications p.105

Burmester’s mighty S8 Subwoofer is a kind of »bass factory« in the home theatre setup. Even if the sound is at hurricane level, this colossus, which weighs close to 60 kilos, brings across the bass frequencies in a subtle and sophisticated manner. Its impressive and uncompromising rendering of low frequencies creates the unshakeable foundation for the experience of three-dimensional sound. Technical specifications p.105

  • InWall Loudspeaker

You are looking for a lush, warm and rich sound, but no big loudspeaker cabinets in your living room? Owing to its shallow installation depth of only 10 cm (4 in.) and its frameless mounting, the Burmester InWall speaker series integrates almost seamlesssly in a very stylish way.The Burmester InWall Woofer ideally complements the existing InWall system. It upgrades the Burmester InWall satellites to a full-fledged 3-way system, thereby lifting the entire InWall system to the sonic level of a floorstander.Technical specifications p.105

  • Satellite / Center Woofer Aluminum housing with adjustable mounting brackets

The Satellite or Center speakers of the Burmester InWall series are designed as 2-way speaker systems. The highfrequency range is reproduced by an AMT tweeter which is custom-made to Burmester specifications and has been regarded as a benchmark for superb resolution, neutrality, power handling and dynamics in the high frequency range for many years. Due to an extremely strong magnet and the special fibreglass cone, the 17 cm (6.5 in.) low-mid driver provides a maximum efficiency of up to 91 dB and an amazingly precise reproduction, combined with a very high power handling. Combined to form a team, the reduced beaming of the high frequency and low/mid range frequency drivers results in a broader sweetspot. Therefore the unique sound experience can be enjoyed everywhere in the listening room. The high-quality all aluminium enclo-sure is extremely rigid with an optimum inner damping and, thus preventing resonances. The Burmester InWall Woofer is designed for a rich bass reproduction even at high volume levels. The heavy, ultra hard aluminium cone guarantees extremely precise lows. Two additional passive diaphragms complete this system and thus enable the radiation of impressively punchy sub-low frequencies, despite the space-saving dimensions of the speaker enclosure. 948 Power Conditioner

The quality of the power supply has become one of the most important components of a high-end music system. Because of the switchable power supplies of computers, TV sets, microwave ovens or light dimmers high-frequency noise and DC components are super- imposed on the mains supply. At times the standing DC component is big enough to cause hum in normally quiet trans-formers. Also, the sound coming from a music system may change depending on the time of day or day of the week, suddenly becoming colorless and weaker. For the dynamic sup-pression of superimposed DC components Burmester has developed a patented switch-ing circuitry. Additionally, the 948 contains top-quality filters against high-frequency noise.Technical specifications p.99

    Racks

The story of the Burmester racks began with Dieter Burmester’s Reference Line setup at home. As a result of its positive tonal and visual features, this private project soon took on a life of its own, and led to a new and separate product. All of the racks can be supplied with surfaces made of Elsberry or Macassar, and there is a special edition in high gloss white. Please enquire about other finshes, which can be specially made to order.Technical specifications p.106

  • Cables

We have developed the best possible internal wiring with various types of cable in order to meet our exacting demands in terms of sound. Of course, these cables are also the best way of connecting the various devices to each other. As it makes its way from the source via the various amplifier stages and loudspeakers to the listener, every particle of sound passes through many metres of connecting cables. The homogeneous signal path is provided by the internal wiring of CD players, preampli-fiers, amplifiers, and loudspeakers, which is always made of the same material. The loudspeaker cables are also part of this chain and are made of the same material as the internal wiring. Unadulterated reproduction can only be achieved using high-quality cable connections. Burmester cables are characterized by secure socket con-tacts and the best kind of conducting material in conjunction with a sensible internal design and particu-larly effective insulation. Cables can be made specially to fit your needs and specifications. Please ask your dealer to supply genuine Burmester cables. He will be happy to assemble the right connections.
